    I think she should own it. I'm personally not a fan, but she seems like a genuine, good person. Who cares if she took some prescribed medication and maybe had a drink or two, to loosen up (not realizing that it would hit her like that and make her "loopy").

    People who have neurological disabilities or who have had head injuries can appear to be drunk. Look up head injury documentaries. If she is adamant that she has never been drunk, then I would have to believe that she has something neurological going on. There is a reason for her behavior, but I'm not going to sit there and judge her as being a drunk when there might be something else going on.

I think, that what she wants the most is a good husband, kids and a happy life- and now she feels, that it is too late and that she failed as a woman. which is not true. I feel her pain and it makes me sad. Hope she is doing better now and more at peace with herself. Not too late to get clean. You can adopt after and love is never too late to find. Just blossom on your own and bees will naturally come your way. You can still do and have anything you want to.

    Whether Paula Abdul has Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) is for her doctors to decide. But her behavior, speech patterns, antics...
    are NOT SYMPTOMATIC of RSD. Nor are they characteristic of Alcohol or Drug use or abuse. Over time the body would become tolerant of the effects of drugs/alcohol & they learn how to 'act normal', which Paula never has!
    Her flamboyant mood swings & changes in temperament, her narcissism, constant commiserating & need for adoration, special treatment, sympathy, pity...
    All suggest a Psychiatric Ailment such as a Personality Disorder or Bi-Polar Disorder. This is likely in addition to the incessant, intractable PAIN - every hour of every day associated with RSD. Since this is an old recording, I hope her doctors have properly diagnosed her & she's receiving appropriate treatment! 💕👊

    Robyn, I've worked with addicts and depressives for 20+ years and love means looking at evidence objectively. Show me one expert who says RSD causes the bizarre behavior she has. Even her own doctor doesn't say it in this report. My husband, a psychiatrist, said that it's an insult to RSD sufferers to claim that they act that way. Maybe it's a reaction to her medication, and not alcohol or drug abuse, but something is going on and denial won't help.

It takes years (for the few family and friends that stick around) to scratch the surface of understanding what it's really like. The insomnia and wear from the incessant pain make you loopy and emotional, but it's the nerve blockers that make you the most loopy...

Unfortunately, the disease progresses. When it does, meds for MOST sufferers have to be strong enough to make you loopy just to take the edge off of the pain. When you're losing so much to an illness, it's very difficult to give up more. I think she held on because she didn't want to lose her career for good.

    Because it's an invisible disease, ppl who suffer from CRPS actually have added physical pain because friends, family, doctors, and the world constantly do things that add to the pain, becaause they CAN'T understand how painful it is. Last month the person I am close to was seriously injured by a doctor who specializes in CRPS, by making a mistake that is considered "101" of what NOT to do to a patient with CRPS. The error worsened the condition signfigantly...

    She seems really drunk in this interview, and all you people making excuses about neck injuries and whatnot need to give me a break... Why is it that some shows she seems perfectly, charming, lucid and normal and other times she is clearly drunk or high on something. If she lives on the same meds why does she seem inebriated some times and other times fine?

    While Paula did give Cynthia McFadden this interview, I felt that this was ABC's ploy to hit her/hurt her once again due to the fact that John Quinones could NOT destroy her nor American Idol....

    @MrsMollyMalloy Or articles written by sufferers and doctors. Many on how difficult it is to endure a life with Pain, nerve blockers, insomnia, painkillers, nausea, vomiting, constipation, immobility, loss of friends, independence in grooming and every other daily activity of life, family, ability to work or be well enough to have an outlet for expression. Basically, why it's called "the suicide disease".

    At least you admit that. Most addiction "professionals" think they know everything about drugs and most of them don't know shit!

    @MrsMollyMalloy A LOT of doctors who treat patients with RSD know very little of what it means to suffer with RSD. There are very few RSD doctors who are worth their salt. If you've ever cared for someone with a serious illness you would know that doctors can be VERY wrong. As someone close to a sufferer of RSD, slurring, loss of train of thought, wooziness, being prone to emotional outbursts, etc...can absolutely be caused by the medication used to supress the symptoms of CRPS!

    @MissJessyeNorman Your claim is false. First of all, celebrities have used their afflictions, whether it be illness or addiction, to revive their careers. It's a well-known tactic among publicists. I can't think of ONE example where a career was ruined because of a non-transmittable illness in the last 20 years. If she is so concerned about the disease, why not start a charity for it, and work on that full time? It's clear that she rather have money and publicity.

    @MissJessyeNorman Okay, I get it, she's in pain. Does that give her license to make life unpleasant for her co-workers, audience, producers, etc? When I'm sick, my employers tell me to stay home. Especially if I can't perform my job. Paula's job was to be a judge and give interviews. She wasn't able to do that in some instances. She deserves no more sympathy than ordinary people, especially since she's rich. Would you accept that behavior from a doctor or teacher?

    first of all i myself have a chronic disabling illness so i am NOT insulting sick people, i AM sick people, and i know what very strong medications can do to a person, so in a sense i am insulting medication, lots of people who take strong meds act a little loopy sometimes.and yes i do believe she has RSD, and when you stay home for being sick the world looks down on you, i would know!

    > The Jason Castro thing is SO OLD now. Its called confusion
    No, it's called critiquing yesterday's rehearsal when she was paid to critique the live performance that just happened, In other words, she wasn't doing her job and was trying to cheat the audience. The only confusion was that she wasn't able to pretend successfully this time.
    By "confusion," are you saying that it was okay for her to read notes about the rehearsal? If we didn't see the rehearsal, why would we care?

  • @MrsMollyMalloy
    @MrsMollyMalloy Před 15 lety

    - the pressure is huge
    Robyn, What pressure? Deciding what to wear? She gets paid a lot for doing almost nothing. It's not like she has to rehearse or do research before each show. Nor does she keep the show moving like Ryan. And her comments are mainly supportive and repetitive, without any real info.
    Where exactly is this pressure? Most people would kill for her "job." And why would she want to continue? Fact is, Idol renewed her fame which allowed her to do an album, jewelry, etc.

  • @RickDrapertheMan
    @RickDrapertheMan Před 11 lety

    Er, why would she have to leave the house and do a TV appearance? She wasn't doing the interviews for Idol so there was contractual obligations. And it's not like she was an ordinary person who had to go to work to pay bills. If you're sick, in pain, drunk, high, or whatever, do the responsible thing and stay home. Instead, she craved publicity and a complete fool of herself. It's her fault and nobody else. It was selfish of her to make the interviewers and fans uncomfortable.

  • @MissJessyeNorman
    @MissJessyeNorman Před 11 lety

    ..Oh, and to compare a recurring sports injury and RSD is ridiculous! RSD is the most severe chronic pain illness, it's in a league of it's own. Of course it's difficult to describe, as for most it's burning pain, nerve pain, sharp pain, like an axe is breaking your body, etc...
    But they know that it's far worse than first time childbirth without painkillers, and having a limb amputated without painkillers, except the sensation is constant! It can be in one limb, or over the entire body...

  • @RickDrapertheMan
    @RickDrapertheMan Před 11 lety

    The only person out to ruin Paula is Paula. If she was sick, high or whatever, she didn't have to go on those interviews. No one made her do them but herself. She should have stayed home like normal people, especially since she's filthy rich for doing nothing on Idol. So if SHE chose to do the interview, then behave like a fool, it's HER fault.
