Of being there, of living the story and let his own soul suffer like his character did. When I look at him I see true pain, anguish, happiness, enthusiasm and those all can't be faked by micro expressions. If we all took turns to take care of each other when someone was depressed, or something else. My grandpa was a medicine man (we are Diné) and he told me a long time ago, this is how we used to take care of each other. But it's lost now. There some other cultures as well thst practiced this, I think it's where "moral therapy" originated. Either way, this world would be a truly connected world.

To have someone in your life, that you would go through fire and flames for just to see them smile. And that smile would turn away the darkest skies and make the sun shine. Love so powerful, that it could make your day, if you saw them being happy. And who would even give you a smile, when their day was bad. Being each other's angels, and make the rest of the world "disappear", when you saw into their eyes. Don't give up on love, because it really is out there.

This scene is obviously Robin's moment and clearly the scene that earned him his long overdue deserved Oscar. But, what Damon does toward the end of the monologue when Robin has cut through all his defenses to get to the heart of the matter arriving at this moment of truth heightened reality moment has always gripped me. Matt is doing very minimalist acting giving Robin all the space he needs to cook which he does and is, but then those precise specific moments where Damon maintains his poker face, but his side-eying begins here indicating to us the exact moment in time Robin's character had broken through Will's bullet proof armour and for the first time Will hopelessly attempting to maintain his facade, but desperately trying to read this unlikeliest of sage's face and mannerisms for some sort of hint or clue in how to deal with him, but literally left in a state of discombobulated confusion grasping for a way to process a meriad of emotions bombarding him not the least of which is he has no muscle memory of life experience to draw from in how to handle a situation where he inexplicably he has been outmatched, out played, out psyched by some one he now knows he respects, has hurt, totally misread, but completely has his number and calling him out point after point like some lightening round of This Is Your Life of the Damned. But, most of all, that worst creeping up feeling that all cynics and the jaded have to confront sooner or later if they're lucky: when someone does come along who suddenly does care, is a difference maker, the game changer, but all you know is pain and betrayal and putting up walls as a result so how do you relearn a lifetime of trauma to even begin to trust that gift of help or believe and let into your brutalized soul hope? Its all there in those frantic, darting eyes lost at sea flaling for a life preserver or what to do. Its revieting and a masterclass of minimist acting while giving your scene partner everything they need. These two made movie magic together. Matt got that opportunity. Ben had no scenes with Robin and never got to gave that chance. Nobody ever in the twenty five plus years has ever asked Ben that publicly and I've always wondered how he feels about that.

This scene will forever speak to me. So many lessons in it. It teaches you about love and it teaches you about judging others. Despite how intelligent you are, or what your story is, how can you judge the human experience another has gone through by just looks or a brief interaction with them? Truly miss Robin Williams brilliance on the screen. I’ve never watched a pivotal moment in a movie and had it feel so real and make me evaluate how I treat others every times I see it. Love this movie

May I try to change your mind? I recommend Mass (2021). It's mostly four people talking in an almost empty room. Nothing to carry the film except its excellent script (that, dare I say, rivals Good Will Huntings') and the actors' acting skills.

We all yearn for a mentor like this. Even really hard case dysfunctional kids or criminals or whatever - everyone putting on a tough act and being destructive to themselves and others, just crying out for such a mentor. Unfortunately though, oftentimes even when confronted with such a mentor as Sean here, some people would be so damaged, they would be incapable of recognising the wisdom Sean is imparting and might even just interrupt him and say "F off". Some people get so lost they can't even hear wisdom being gifted to them.

I loved this man & I miss him every day. He was so good in this film, he turned a very predictable story into an unforgettable moment in cinema history. Robin Williams was remarkably without the ego that far too many " actors " have. And here, in a key moment, he is both therapist, & friend to a troubled kid . And in the process, Will begins to see Sean as someone he can & must, listen to, for once in his life. Legendary scene. -----MJL, 77 y/o

It's description of today's generation. They don't know what real love is. Some of them probably do, but majority is just all about themselves, ego , materialism. They'll leave loved one on the first obstacle. Does it even matter if it happens on first or 150th obstacle? Love is just what Robin explained here. It's only true when you love someone more than yourself.
Nothing in life is more valuable than unconditional , true love.

That said, there are certain monologues, especially those out of Robin's mouth, that are so heartfelt and brilliant, that they can make you think, "Was this in the script or is this coming from him?"

I keep playing this scene over and over again, because personally it's one of the most heart felt scenes in cinema. I can easily put myself in both characters shoes and relate. It's sad that we as people most of the time can't relate to one another on this level because of social stigmas. Considered weak if you open yourself to this level of vulnerability.

The guilt conscience, the attempt to plant a Super Ego inside of Will's head. Robbin Williams tries to lay a sense of remorse on Will about being book smart and criticizing others unfairly with his intelligence. And how wrong he is with his high I.Q. and insincerity is ingenious. Will if I asked you about war you would quote Shakespeare,"Once more into the great breech my dear friends." And you've never been to war. But Will I don't claim to know about you. Your an orphan right? Do you think I would know the first thing about how hard your life has been just because I've read "Oliver Twist?" My point is this: the writers of this movie are brilliant. It's a Cliff Notes or Sparks Notes moment to explain and relate literature with real life portrayed in this scene. It's a real class act. Very touching part in the movie, that encourages literacy, I think. Oscar winning of course.
