The True Story of Alexander the Great in Ancient Egypt

  • History Hit's Tristan Hughes travels to Egypt to explore its extraordinary links to one of the most famous names from antiquity, Alexander the Great. Of all the lands in the Eastern Mediterranean, it is Egypt that has the most fascinating - and enduring - connection to this ancient conqueror.
    It’s a connection that began during Alexander’s lifetime, but endured and evolved significantly following his death, thanks to Alexander’s talismanic corpse, hijacked and fought over between former brothers in arms in an ancient 'Game of Thrones' - with a gruesome climax on the River Nile.
    From the holiest of holies at Luxor Temple to the Pyramids at Giza, join Tristan as he explores fascinating links to Alexander that can be found all along the Nile - if you know where to look.
    In the depths of an ancient temple, Tristan finds pharaonic depictions of Alexander, a Macedonian king making offerings to Egyptian gods, and looking no different to famous names such as Ramesses II and Tutankhamun.
    And he investigates the fascinating links to Alexander at the magnificent necropolis of Saqqara - from the stunning subterranean Serapeum, complete with massive granite sarcophagi designed for the mummified remains of sacred bulls, to a mysterious semi-circle of half-destroyed, Greek looking statues that may well have marked the first tomb of Alexander in Egypt.
    This is a story where Alexander’s death was just the beginning...

    Alexander saw himself as Egyptian and not Greek. He has a shrine in the Luxor Temple (to this day) where he's shown no differently from his forebears. It should be noted that he did not seek confirmation of his royalty in Greece and burned the Greek city of Thebes to the ground. In the Alexander romance, he's actually the son of the last native pharaoh, Nectanebo ii, not Philip (of Macedon). Which is why the Egyptians welcomed him as their rightful ruler.

      What???? That's nonsens. They didn't have any common origins. Pelasgians were indigenous inhabitants of Greece, that were conquered by Dors (proto-Greeks). Egyptians were North Africans. They had indpeendent set of beliefs that had nothing to dow ith each other.

    So basically Egypt was stolen from the Nubian, Sudanese and Ethiopians land...explains the mixed races there....if you go back before Alexander the Greats take over im sure the Pharaoh's were of African decent. DNA after Alexander the Great took over of course would be lighter skinned,mixed raced. I'm sure they made them slaves there while some left. The Greeks were there 30 years. I believe Tutukamims grandmother was definitely of dark skinned African decent.

    • @pendragonsxskywalkers9518
      @pendragonsxskywalkers9518 Před měsícem

      Egypt wasn't stolen from Nubia. It was never Nubians's to begin with. Nubia was colony in Egypt, in fact. Tut's grandmother was of both Egyptian and Levantine descent, her father even looks Asiatic, and both her parents had light hair 👱🏼‍♂👱🏼‍♀. Egyptians were indigenous North Africans with different phenotypes and different degree of Middle Eastern admixture - always. It started long before Alexander. Yes, there might be more European admixture with Greeks, but to say light skinned Egyptians appear with them is incorrect, as they lived in Mediterranean area and they were mixing with Asiatics. In fact we know that Ramesses II was light skinned, as analysis of his mummy shows this. And there was also Libyan dynasties - and Libyans were light-skinned.
