    In this episode I walk you through how to install universal fender flares from Amazon or Ebay. I also install 2" wheel spacers to add extra track width.
    Use masking tape to hold the flares in the desired location. Using a drill bit slightly larger than your rivets, begin by drilling one hole in one of the top center holes on the flare.. Drill through the flare and just through the sheet metal behind it, careful not to go to deep and risk damaging anything. Install the rivet and move on the next closest mounting location. Check fitment and repeat the process until all flares are installed. Trim excess portions as desired.
    Be sure to check out my video on the Rustoleum Turbo paint job I have on this truck!

    So after seeing your video I tried doing the same to my 4wd grand vitara however they didn’t fit as barely any of the stud was coming through the spacer did you have any issue with that or did your original studs stick out a safe distance ?

    • @BarelyBuiltRight
      @BarelyBuiltRight  Před rokem

      Mine were just long enough for me using the spacer I did. Of course the depth of the cavity in the spacer may vary slightly from brand to brand.

    • @BarelyBuiltRight
      @BarelyBuiltRight  Před rokem

      Appreciate it! And as far as 35s...not a chance without work 😅 I had to cut a little for my 31s here...and they are still close. With a more aggressive lift you could do less cutting. I only have 2" puck lift

      @@BarelyBuiltRight I realized now I didn’t say the right number😭 I meant 33s but I think even then it’s still too much to avoid cutting. Thanks for the info!

    Rebadged Suzuki Vitara is modded out
    (Zebra Corner has entered the chat)
    ----------------------
    01:50 shouldn’t the rust be polished off before putting the spacer on? Maybe put some grease between to keep future rust from being an issue?
    I wish you’d have shown how you dealt with the rear bumper, even though it looks like you just kept going and treated it as if it were the body and used the K.I.S.S. method.
    Wouldn’t it have been easier to Mark where and angle and cut the excess off and sanded smooth before mounting?
    How are you feeling about the pop rivets now that it’s done? Would you use pop rivets again, or would you use nuts and bolts?
    Good video. Thanks!

    • @BarelyBuiltRight
      @BarelyBuiltRight  Před 3 lety

      Ideally yes, you are correct. I am currently sourcing parts for an XL7 brake upgrade so hopefully it will all be shiny soon!

    • @BarelyBuiltRight
      @BarelyBuiltRight  Před 3 lety

      Also just realized you had more questions..
      2) Rear bumper is still stock. For the flares I drilled a hole through the plastic bumper and through the sheet metal behind that. I pushed hard in to the rivet gun to make sure it penetrated each layer.
      3) As far as the excess I think its six in one, half dozen the other there. I didn't know exactly where I wanted the trailing edge of the flare and taped it up there how I liked it. Mounted it, cut excess.
      4) Pop rivets feel incredibly solid. A big key with the rivets is making the through holes just barely bigger than the rivet. I used a bit that was 1/32 larger than the rivet. This promotes a strong connection. They dont flex or flap in the wind at all. Dont squeak or anything.

    Are you gonna plan on wetsanding and buffing it to get out the orange peel?

    • @BarelyBuiltRight
      @BarelyBuiltRight  Před 3 lety +1

      Not immediately, no. I ultimately want to do an airbrushed faux military patina on it, and will buzz it down before that. I may do my fiance's car soon in black, and might go more for the clear+cut/buff to see how flat I can get it

    Hey do you think you can go bigger than 2 in spacer for the wheels I am going to buy some how big do you think could go on spacers

    • @BarelyBuiltRight
      @BarelyBuiltRight  Před rokem +1

      The bigger you go, the more stress on the suspension and running gear. If you want to go that big a suggest getting different wheels with a lower backspacing. Does the same thing without spacers

      It's been two years since the accident. In that time I have also had corrective surgery for a traumatic cataract and separated iris. I will never be able to read with that eye again, and it is still permanently blurry to a degree, but compared to blindness in that eye, I would certainly say it has healed! Thanks for your view!
