      Wrighty I moved to a bungalow a couple of years ago however though the garden is not huge and the only place to have pond is right under some huge trees which are over the fence owed by the local council along side a public foot path that is only used by dog walkers is not ideal.

    Looks Great Terry! I've been clicking on your channel, 3 times a day every day in anticipation of your next video. Well worth the wait! I'm a firm believer in letting algae grow on the bottom and the sides of the liner, but of course, I want it out of the water column itself. I really like what you did for the skimmer as far as the water height goes, great way to keep the fish out of it. Please keep us updated!

    Hey, been watching your videos over and over again figuring how you've done it. How do you fix your liner when you build the retaining brick walls around the outside of the pond? do you fold them into gap and brick over? and what is best place to buy the bits and pieces that you would recommend? Thank you!

    • @Wrighty
      @Wrighty  Před 6 lety

      Hi, There is no gap between the bricks as this is filled in with cement to give the wall added strength. The liner is fitted under the top copings. The liner is cut back so it only covers half of the top of the wall and then the copings are laid on top. hope this helps. Terry.

      Hi James, I didn't take any of the eggs out this year so the koi would have eaten them. I did take some out last year and grew them. I gave a lot away and kept about 50 for myself, but herron got into the growing tank and got about 30 of them. I still have about 20 left but the herron got all the bigger nice coloured ones. You can see what's left in this video czcams.com/video/dVrVvbA8LuA/video.html Thanks, Terry.

    Lovely job mate. How effective is using mortar to bed the coping stones down? How easy it pointing the bed joint underneath on the inside of the pond? And does the mortar actually bond to the liner?
    I'm in the process of building my own pond and I'm at this stage now. Water is in and filtering around very well I've got some plants in and they're looking healthy but I've got to secure the liner down somehow but I just cant seem to figure out the best way.
    I'm a bricklayer by trade and know from experience that ordinary sand and cement mortar doesn't bond to plastic or rubber very well. But what you have done looks very good.

    • @Wrighty
      @Wrighty  Před 4 lety

      Hi mate, thank you. I must say I'm no expert, but I can tell you what I did on mine. I had a 2 course brick wall to lay them on as you can see in the video. I cut the rubber liner so it only covered one of the courses. This meant the mortar would at least stick to one course. I had a sheet of polystyrene floating on the water where I was laying the coping's to stop any cement dropping in the water. I mixed waterproofer with the cement and laid the coping as normal. I did drop the water level of the pond 6" to give me a bit more room to work. I laid these 4 years ago and I do walk about on them quite a bit. I've had no problems with them coming loose up to now. I also used a sealer to seal the joints. Hope this helps. Terry.

    Hi tel,
    Me again my ponds going great and hope to have it finished in the next 2 weeks. Quick question, when you put the coping stones on did you cut the liner first ? So you had half the brick underneath and half the liner to bind the copings to ? Hope that makes sense.

    • @Wrighty
      @Wrighty  Před 4 lety

      Hi mate, Yes, I cut the liner back so it came across the inside row of bricks so the coping's can grip to the outside row. Then put the bed of cement all the way across so it grips the liner as well. Terry.

I would take some media out a bit at a time until it starts moving. Give it a while and once it is moving well, start adding some of the media you took out back into the tub. Do this slowly over several days. Hope this helps. Terry.

    • @Wrighty
      @Wrighty  Před 8 lety

      Hi Steve, I don't know the recommended through flow of your UV but be careful as to much flow and your UV won't have time to kill the algae. If you get no improvement with your water in a week or so, It might pay to split the flow with a Y connection so your UV gets half the flow. That way you know it will be working. Terry.

    • @Wrighty
      @Wrighty  Před 2 lety

      Hi Matt, I'm not sure I can remember now mate. The Firestone rubber liner was about £400.00. Bottom drain £19.00. The 3" pressure pipe was quite expensive as I had to run it to my shed and back, but that'll be different for your pond. As you'll know, my filters, skimmer and sieve are homemade. The worst bit was the cost of the skips to take the dirt away. I had 2 at £160.00 each. If you want any pressure pipe, Pipestock.com are the cheapest I've found. The brickwork was done by my son who's a builder, so it cost me nothing. I can't remember how much the copings were mate, sorry. Hope this helps. Take care, Terry.

      Hi Steve, The fish won't mind the green water, like you say, it just looks horrible. If you want to do a water change I wouldn't change more than 25%. It will be a case of sitting back and waiting for your UV to do it's job. You will need a good filter to clear the dead algae. You really should change the bulb in your UV every year at the start of every season. Once a pond goes like that, it does take some getteing back to normal. Good luck and hope all goes well for you. Terry.

    • @Wrighty
      @Wrighty  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi mate, Thank you. I'm in south Lincolnshire, PE12. Firstly you have to decide what your aim is (if your going for Koi, or something easier like goldfish). Goldfish are very hardy and reasonably easy to keep. Koi do take a lot more looking after as there hybrids and also require more room. That will give you a better idea on your pond size. Do as much research as possible. Watch as many CZcams videos on ponds and pond builds as you can. Talk to your local pond shop, there usually very willing to help. Check if you have a Koi club near you. You'll find there members very helpful. Most people who build there first pond, build a bigger one within the first 2 years. It is a wonderful hobby but can be expensive if your not careful. Hope this helps. Terry.

    • @Wrighty
      @Wrighty  Před 5 lety

      Hi Mate, as you may know I did all the work myself apart from laying the bricks which my son did. The good thing about it is you can do it a bit at a time to get most of the bits together before you start. If your starting from scratch it can cost a bit. It really depends how good you want to go with it. As you know there's cheap and expensive in everything. My pond liner alone was £460.00 but I had the best. You can get one for around £70.00. maybe less. My UV light was £115.00. but you can get one for £30.00. My pond filter as you know I built myself. It's very difficult for me to give a price mate. I would say you could build one similar to mine using the cheaper end of the market equipment for around £500.00. or less, which is the sort of equipment I used for years. One like mine with the same equipment could cost in the region of anywhere from £6000 to £7000 Hope this helps mate, Terry.
