In the Trenches of Russia’s War Against Ukraine

  • Coffee or Die’s Nolan Peterson recently visited Ukraine’s eastern war zone. Moving north to south, he visited three key locations near the cities of Luhansk, Donetsk, and Shyrokyne.
After more than seven years, the war is clearly far from over.
Ukraine’s military continues to fight against a combined force of Russian regulars and pro-Russian separatists. The conflict blends modern weapons and technology with battlefield conditions similar to those of the World War I trenches. Soldiers deal with the daily threat of random death by snipers and shelling and drone strikes.
At some places, no man’s land can be several miles wide. At others, the Ukrainians and their enemies are close enough to trade shouted insults. In trench warfare, it doesn’t matter how good of a soldier you are, how much you’ve trained, or how many years of combat experience you may possess. In this kind of war, your chances of survival usually just boil down to raw luck.

One of the crazy thing about conflicts like these is how they show real life situations that we don’t think about in a modern war. For example, the use of on the ground telecommunication lines. You're a 1,000 % correct! A full blown "hot war" with the United States and a near peer power is unlikely. However, both powers have the ability to totally disrupt, and even destroy, one another's communications, gps and many of the weapons themselves. If war did occur, it likely be similar to strategic bombing in the first months of WWII, they didn't bomb cities for fear of a retaliatory strike, they worked around it. Of course that only lasted so long.

If it weren’t for them, thousands of more people would have been killed thousands of women would have been sold into sex slavery to help finance IS. But for the love of God, where the heck do you guys even begin to sincerely explain your *reason* and *right* to intermix *Coffee* and *War* ? - We get it that your founders and or staff may be veterans, but what the heck made you think that you could turn conflict into profit? What strikes me about this conflict. Because of how little coverage it gets, we get to see it in a much more raw form than normal. And as an American, it's like cold water seeing a conflict from a neutral perspective. The casual brutality is insane. When we see American soldiers. We see brave mean in uniform as superheros, but watching this, these guys sound like they're talking about going to work at the office, it's so casual how this war is being fought, in spite of the high casualties by modern conflict standards, this seems so unreal. I've seen sports games where the fans showed more anger and frustration and raw violence than this. Not to talk down on their bravery, these people are courageous beyond measure, but seeing a war from this perspective makes you realize just how ludicrous the whole exercise is. The fact that this is happening seems ridiculous. And I think that sheds light on how much of the world has viewed the US in the past 75 years

Putin and his government calling for peace in Ukraine, and invoking a brotherly resolution of the conflict, particularly by drafting and signing the Minsk Accords. Because the Minsk Accords are a very promising solution and roadmap, it is the fashion of the day to forget that they are suggested by Russia. But this is just another lie.
No one in the Russian government ever “called to kill Ukrainians”, and this allegation is another of your lies. Do you forget that a significant share of the government of Russia consists of ethnic Ukrainians or Belorussians, or at least their children or grandchildren?
Are those the stupid people who did not put the flowers to the stone block of Kyiv at the Eternal Fire on May 3, 2016? Or was it an act of theft, which was corrected on the next day? Or a mere omission by the workers in Alexandrovsky Sad, who brought the missing flowers on May 4? Well, you prefer to disseminate unreasonable and unproven allegations, which are merely too trifle to qualify as libel.
And, in spite of the often-repeated lie of yours, Russia is not fighting a war in Ukraine. Russia stands across the border and tries to persuade the civil-war belligerents that they have to come down. Yes, her demands to the ‘official’ Ukraine (the title usurped unconstitutionally by the Junta) are harder than those to the ‘amateur politicians’ in Donetsk and Lugansk. But she has not resorted to force (although she could have), and that is not because Putin is afraid of sanctions or NATO intervention, but because Russia and her government do respect the people of Ukraine - not only as subjects of international law, but also as brothers. Prodigile, but still brothers.
In general, your comment is absurd, and the groundless allegations reveal a completely brainwashed mindset. Room 101 succeeded in training you to eagerly suck, absorb and spread the lies, without bothering to consider the facts and analyze.

@@williamwhitney5266 Putin and his government calling for peace in Ukraine, and invoking a brotherly resolution of the conflict, particularly by drafting and signing the Minsk Accords.

The difference here between Ukraine and places like South Vietnam or Afghanistan is that Ukraine is an established society and country. A unified people standing against an outside aggressor. They're not going to back down. The supplies that we give to them will not go wasted. They have the men and the morale, they just need the guns.

There are 8 million Russians living in current Ukraine, because the east and south are Russian lands novaya russia and malaya russia conquered by Catherine the 2 from the Turks, these were given to Ukraine to administer by the Bolsheviks but the population remained Russian. So yes they are fighting Russians with Ukranian citizenship.
