This is how i set up my tracks and vocal bus in protools for every session.
You can do this and get it how you like it then create a template so that every session you start you don't have to go through the process again.

Hey Question…I see in many of your videos you always have the output on your recording track set to the vocal bus while tracking. Usually it would be set up to main outputs to avoid latency when tracking. I liked to also have it go right into the vocal bus so each time the artist gets punched in there is no difference from audio track to audio track, should be a smoother punch in. The issues is that i do notice a slight delay when the record track is set to the vocal bus and when it is set to main outputs there no delay at all. Do you have the same latency issue when having the record track set to the vocal bus? I recorded my self and i do hear a very small delay but in a weird way it almost forces the artist to change his style a bit and i can also hit different pockets. Anyways, what are your thoughts on this? Thanks in advance

Different plug-ins have different amounts of delay that it causes on the CPU so if your vocal Bus has plug-ins on it that caused large amounts of delay then yeah you would want to route your track to the output instead of the vocal bus but if you don’t have much on the vocal bus or plug-ins that cause latency, then you can run the track to the vocal bus Also I will say some autotune plug-ins cause latency so you want to go in the settings and turn on low latency mode and also make sure your buffer size is low in protools

@@ShaneThompsonsmusic I definitely appreciate the quick reply, Thank You. I actually took all the plug ins off the vocal bus and there is still this very very light delay, i hate to even call it a delay because its so small but i really feel like this has been making the arstist swag out there words more (in a good way) as apposed to having the cut track output set to mains and like this there is 0 latency and real snappy when recording. Ive played with my buffer size to see if it helped (32,64,128) but it all feels the same in all 3 settings. I was hoping to hear that maybe this is why you yourself have it set to the vocal bus because the small timing difference gave the artist a different feel or a different way to hit the pockets of the beat. When you got a second just try changing the output to 1-2 mains and talk in the mic then switch back to vocal bus and let me know if you can notice a slight change in feel or in timing. Once again my brother i appreciate you taking the time to get back to me. I definitely have been enjoying your live video tracking and mix sessions, your editing skills are on point 💯💪🏼🙏🏼

Any idea why when I bounced my mix i couldnt hear any of the vocal bus effects anymore ? Is that because the bus wasnt routed correctly to my master bus?

It’s probably just because you have something routed incorrectly
