What do you think of the Pace 500 and 350 Next-Gen? Support Ebike Escape when purchasing from Aventon: bit.ly/3wr0ki9 (affiliate link)
Wish we'd known they were coming out with next-gen, we just bought Pace 350 and Pace 500 in Jan/Feb. Like the new ones better other than the weight increase
@@upspirate I like the prior design better. The color display sucks and can’t be seen. The new integrated battery design is going to pinch fingers and be hard to find as a replacement in the aftermarket, whereas the dorado in the prior one can easily be sourced and you can get much higher capacity in same form factor. The tail lights will be another thing that breaks, and the cord for these lights hanging out the back by the axle just sucks. Add in lights will be much brighter and not suck the on board battery down. People will not like the kickstand where it is, as over time on that frame position, guarantee you it will get broken off and the frame will get bent just enough to cause rear brake mis alignment. The same colors are very old and dated, and they should really have gone with something new and fresh like the soltera colors. It looks bulkier and just not an aesthetically pleasing design. The battery fit and finish is much nicer on the Soltera.
The prior design is going to be worth big bucks and in high demand, as you can get batteries easier, and increase the capacity of the battery and get them right away. It will probably be at least a year before you can get a spare battery, just like the Aventure where Aventon still does not offer one. This model should have come with fenders like the Rad City, included rear rack, and had a 14 Ah battery. Really misfired here, and the Rads will continue to way outsell Aventons. The Aventure and Soltera were much more appealing and fresh designs. They should have abandoned the Pace, and come out with a new model.
I used your link to purchase my Pace500 and appreciate your review, thank you!
Great video! The most detailed and informative review that I have seen so far of the Aventon Pace 500 next gen.
Glad it was helpful!
Been researching a few weeks now and I believe this one is what we are going to get. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful! The Pace 500 is a great option.
Waiting for your review always makes me so excited thank you again 🇨🇦🤙
Thanks for watching!
I have had the pace 500 for a couple months now and love it. I weigh 225 lbs and don't ever use battery assist 5. Don't need it. Brakes work great for a big guy. Seat is a little stiff but am new to riding. Just ordered a different softer seat. Hope that helps. I ride a twenty mile loop with lots of twists and hills. Use only 10 to twenty percent of the battery. Got the rear rack on sale. Very good quality. Very happy with this bike.
Thanks for sharing
Now we’re talking I was debating the Soltera 7 speed..great bike for sure..but I’m a bit bigger also..nice share for sure….500 vs 350…and all the options neck adjustment…can the front fork be swapped/shocks..
This bike is definitely light and nimble enough that you don't need the maximum pedal assist to get the full experience. I got this bike second hand for $600 and have been pleasantly surprised by it even as a 6'1" 215lbs guy.
Thanks for this detailed review!!! It helped me tremendously to narrow my search to 1 bike! I pulled the trigger on this bike because I could ride before buying from a brick and mortar store in Charleston, SC. I purchased the Pace 500 Next Gen in April 2022. I bought the s/m frame in color Celeste. The bike is perfect for my 5’6” 140# frame. I am able to ride upright which takes the pressure off my wrists and palms. Thanks for reviewing this bike so well. I love this bike!
Thanks, just pulled the trigger and bought my second Pace 500. I winter in FL, and summer in upstate NY, so I now will have one at each home. The additions to the next generation of this bike are all things I would have recommended. I actually purchased the after-market color display for my 1st gen Pace, so having on the new model is great. I highly recommend the Pace 500, it has been great for me. My first 3 months with it, I put over 500 miles on it, and it is still just like new.
Perfect! Thanks for sharing your experience.
Finally a review of this bike that doesn't sound like an ad.
'Great road test. At 19:08 I counted-off 0 - 20 mph in around *6* or *7* *seconds* in Assist Level 5 while pedaling. That seems impressive to me, for a bicycle. From a standing-start, my old knees would really appreciate having use of the throttle-only to get moving. The hill test was informative, as well.
Glad you found it helpful Ken - thanks for watching!
One of the coolest most versatile bikes I’ve ever seen! Looks so worth it.
Wow, very helpful video. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
thorough review thank you
Thank you for watching!
I own 8 bikes right now . I used to have 10 but I sold 2 of my bikes among them I have 3 rads , 1 Igo and 1 aventon level . I must say i am pretty impressed with my Aventon and igo . I have a very steep hill on my way to work and my level can climb that hill on pas level 1 without any problems . My igo peaks at 1000w , so its a beast on the hills as well. I must say I am pretty dissapointed with Rad products as far as power goes . Even on pas 5 I still have to put effort in all 3 of them on the same hill.
Great Review!
Glad you enjoyed it
I am in love with this bike... I need it to have front suspension tho to compensate for my neck injuries.
What about a suspension seatpost?
Love the pace.
Thanks for the great review. After much research, I think I’m ready to pull the trigger on the Aventon Pace 500.
I’ll be adding a few accessories tho. Fenders, rack and shock absorbing seat post since those don’t come stock.
Curious, do you have any links or discount codes available? Thanks!
Did u end up buying it? I was thinking about buying a 500 version ..
Thank you sir awesome 🇨🇦🤙
Thanks Mario!
Can't wait for you to review the Ride1Up Cafe cruiser!! When will that come out
Hopefully in the next week. It's filmed - just need to edit!
@@EbikeEscape That is great! Editing is a LOT of work, no doubt!!!
At 52 Lbs and 500+ watts, it is fast and long lasting. I like mine. Clean looks and lights are great.
Decent for price. I'd like to see a bump up from lower end components as an option. Sorry but the Tektro's this bike is equipped with at at the bottom , and so is a the Altus or Acera Shimano groups. I'd buy Aventon in a heart beat for some of my family if they would offer a quality upgrade package to the components. That said, your review is excellent.
Really great bicycle enjoying mine
Glad you like it John!
Hey love all your content ! Can you some how contact Aventon and ask them if they will ever make a belt drive Ebike. Thanks keep up the awesome videos.
I think if they were going to in the near term it would have been on the single-speed Soltera. I bet we see them offer a mid-drive before a belt drive. Thanks for watching!
I totaled my Wheels Bam Step Thru yesterday - the brakes failed and I had to hit a row of hedges to stop. I am ready to pull the trigger on this bike. I can't wait to have better brakes. I think the smaller frame will also be nice.
Glad you are ok. I hope the hydraulic disc brakes treat you better on the Pace 500 -JT
The bike is fantastic!
If you had to pick one , between the aventon pace 500, ride1up 700 series and the ride1up cafe cruiser. As a leisure bike for taking light bike trails, and weekend trips. Which would you chose and why?
I’m stuck between those 3 right now as they all fit in my budget and are basically equally optioned. (Aventon is doing a sale right now , with 200$ worth of accessories, so basically included a rack, fenders and suspension seatpost in the same price as the ride1up 700) this would be my first e bike, and I am very hyped to ride with my girlfriend on weekends.
Thanks for all your hard work with these extremely consistent reviews!
Ride1Up tends to run sales around holidays, so you might be able to score a bit of savings around July 4th on the Ride1Up bikes.
But to help you choose between the three, that is a tough one. I can say you most likely won't be upset with any of the choices. If you are a taller rider the 700 series might feel a bit cramped and the Aventon offers a larger frame size. The Cafe Cruiser is currently out of stock until July. So depending on your time line and overall size, each bike might work for you. Hope that helps at least a little. -JT
Great review, thank you! Would the Pace 500 be suitable for gravel trails?
Absolutely. And if you were a little worried, you could change the tires to something with a bit more “grip” and you would be all set. The Pace 500 would be a great “Rails to Trails” bike. -JT
Note frame is good, but never designed for jumps or drop offs. No problem on ocasional drops, but the exception not the rule.
I want to get an aventon soo bad but their customer service is that of nightmares which is why I am going with RadCity 5 plus
ya my local bike shop dropped Aventon because of that.
Great review! What size were you riding? Their website says the step through comes in a S/M and then also a M/L
Thanks Kevin - this is the M/L. I forgot to mention that.
@@EbikeEscape I'm 5'10" and 160 guy which size would you recommend?
Just bought the midnight black pace 500
So relieved to know it handles hills well.
I notice they sell different size models though, do you know if you were riding on the regular or large size?
This is the large. Thanks for watching and enjoy your new bike!
@@EbikeEscape Thanks!
curious about changing a flat in read tire? How to do?
Thxs for the great review. Love how you even added your printed screen words in the Celeste color- Very Nice touch! I have Gen 1 Pace 500. Aliitle over 2 yrs now & 2500 miles- a super fun bike! However- Been VERY disappointed w Aventon's POOR customer service!!! I think they have grown way too fast and have done a terrible job to keep up w Service & Parts request. Even dealers say it is nearly impossible to speak to their assigned Rep. I am shopping for another bike-inc motor maybe 750 or 1000 and inc amp hours for sure. Aventon will not get one more penny from me! BEWARE OF THE NIGHTMARE CUSTOMER SERVICE!
are you able to change the top speed setting on your display, or do need a smartphone to do that?
What bike rack do you recommend with this step through version? Looks like you would need an add on horizontal bar to use a normal bike rack.
1UP USA is a great rack especially if you don't plan to add fenders or a rear rack. We also recently did a video on the Saris MHS and put the Pace 500 on it for the video.
I just bought my first Ebike - Aventon Pace 500 (R) Nex Gen.With a 32 inch inseam, I felt the seat post was exceedingly high for proper pedaling leg extension. I returned the bike and am anxiously awaiting delivery of the larger frame size. I am hoping this meets my expectations.
Good to know, thanks for sharing your experience.
I don't understand your complaint. If the seatpost is exceedingly high, wouldn't that give you more leg extension?
@@mrbubetube I agree...I'm confused by that post 🤔
Do they sell second battery kits to be install by the seat tube so we can run extended time?
They do not.
Does this model come with water bottle mounts...I don't see any?
Can the front forks be changed for shocks
nice review....wondering why no front suspension? Would have made the bike a slam dunk for me
The Level has front suspension.
why would you need front suspension? are you going to be leaning forward on the handlebars like a mountain bike?
With the streets around here a front shock really saves your hands and arms. It's a shame they didn't include one.
Plenty of options out there if thats what you want. We need more rigid fork options since they are lighter and with good seating position they are mostly dead weight and on hills soak up a bunch of forward motion.
@@markg3950 I do own an Aventure.
There's always the Aventon Level.
@@forgetyourlife I get it, but the shocks "absorbing" forward motion...is this a physics concept?
@@5DNRG oh yes. As you pedal force into a bicycle drivetrain some of that downward pedal motion can get soaked up by the suspension fork. This is most noticeable climbing up hills or under hard pedaling. Some forks come with a lock out just for that reason but low tere sup forks do not. If you want all the distance out of a battery and your mostly on smooth pavement or light trails a sup fork isn’t as efficient. Fat tires more than soak up the imperfections.
I have a rack that can only hold bike up to 48 lbs, so how much would the Pace 500 weigh if I took the battery off it before I mounted it on my rack? Basically how much does the battery weigh???
Batteries tend to weigh between 6 and 10 lbs.
Can you still pedal when using throttle only?? When ging to work I feel like I would want to do thorottle only with a ;ittle pedaling to help t and then going home i would do pedal assist?? I don't want to get sweaty going to work and a little exercise going home...
You can. However you could also just turn up the pedal assist level and achieve the same thing. The ebike will basically add more power to your pedaling, making the effort required less. And allow you to arrive “sweat-free”. -JT
Any thoughts about how this bike would work for a tall rider? I am 6’3” and looking for a commuter ebike, 10 miles ride daily, urban area, some bike lanes, but also street riding, plenty of potholes.
Aventon recommends this ebike for up to 6'4" riders, so I imagine you would be ok if your legs are not super long.
I would also recommend looking into Ride1Up. They offer mostly commuter-style ebikes that come with front suspension. Which you might appreciate if you are having to navigate potholes. -JT
Thank you!
Is it a cadence or torque sensor on the PAS? Thanks.
cadence.
Cadence sensor
@@EbikeEscape The more bikes I see tested, the more I realize that with all the various technologies, the numbers always turn out the same. Or close to it.
Can u put a quick release handle on the front tire?
Sorry not sure.
I think for price they should throw in fenders, and rear rack.
It's tricky because prices are increasing across the board but fenders would certainly be nice.
How did you make the tail light to flash?
The tail lights are LED. So they only appear to flash on camera, they are solid in person. Sorry for that confusion. -JT
Any E bike at this price point should come with suspension forks, no excuse not to include it. Show me where the streets or sidewalks are smooth as glass.
You are simply full of crap. Are you a bike designer ? Whats your pedigree other than your uninformed opinion ? A ton of bikes and ebikes do not include suspension forks and its by design. At this price point, a decent suspension fork adds minimum $300, and a LOT of useless weight. If an ebike includes one at this price point, unless the rest of ebike is a bunch of crap on the other components, or has grade c batteries, then the fork is basically worthless and nearly all eye candy. Cheap and suspension forks are not compatible terms. If its not a good suspension fork, it eventually makes the ride unstable, and over time its dead weight barely providing anything more than psychological satisfaction. But the bumps are still there and jarring. This design of bike does not need a fork. You are sitting upright, and the tires are comfort oriented designed to more than adequately absorb bumps.
I ride the 2021 Pace 500 and it’s an absolutely phenomenal smooth ride… Riding the streets of Chicago can be pretty rough in plenty of places and the Pace 500 handles it very well. It’s nimble enough to avoid any major potholes and rough patches… I didn’t even add a suspension saddle post, just a Cloud 9 Comfort Cruiser saddle and like I said it’s smooth as butter and a very comfortable ride without a front suspension…
I feel like offering the Aventon Level is enough. Then you can have your choice.
@@EbikeEscape how would you rate the Pace's handling of jarring bumps? Let's assume it's unavoidable but something you can prepare for in advance. The tires look like they help smooth things out quite a bit.
What size was this? S/M or M/L ?
M/L
M/L - sorry for the delay and thanks for watching!
I would not like that display I'll tell you that right now. I have the Pace 500 from 2020. mine will show up much better in day light. (Like you know when you ride the bike) That color will do nothing for you. There may be some function that would be good in the "color" display module. But it's best to keep that original solid LCD display. and add new functions to that. And I already seen a comment about hard to see display. Oh but it's COLOR! "eye roll"
how tall are you?
6' tall, 32 inch inseam.
your comments on color avail is not true across the step through and step over models.../
Yes unfortunately we had some incorrect information prior to release.
Hey guys , did u know tree's breath Co2😅😅😅 lol so how is it saving trees by riding a ebike
😂
The Aventon Level 2 is a step above.
Correct. The Pace 500 is the selection just below the Level 2 in the hierarchy. If you have the money, the Level.2 is a great selection.
The display is not nearly bright enough for riding on a sunny day.
We do agree. While the Aventon display is top notch in a lot of ways, the overall brightness in direct sunlight isn't the best.
Yea, that’s a big oversight. Makes one question if any actual cyclists had any input into the final product?
Spañol
Again no fenders I’ll pass
They sell fenders: bit.ly/38qNbeU (affiliate link)
why no fenders? how STINGY can you get.....
Would have been a nice addition though obviously available after market.
Dont buy these bikes thier customer service is horrible your better off buying a e bike that will help its customers i dont see them making it much longer they only care about selling the bikes after you buy one they could cate less about any problems you have
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I'd like to hear more details about your experience.
What if you buy at a local shop?
No details? No credibility!
The factory customer service has been reported as bad. I like the Pace 500 so I will buy from a dealer to solve that problem. The price is maybe 100.00 more.
Salesman at store told me he does not like selling this bike because parts take three weeks to get.
I think it's absolutely RIDICULOUS and a step backward to need a $500 smartphone, app, and account login just to change one stupid speed setting on the bike, especially when this wasn't required for previous versions. Who's the IDIOT that came up with that new requirement??? Is this really necessary or can the speed setting be adjusted on the display?
I don’t know. I asked a sales man about unlocking to go 28 mph and he had no idea what I was talking about
For your next video, try to keep your hand out of it. Becomes annoying & distracting with you going up & down.
Just a tip.
Sure!
