Gender Equality In Islam | Muslima Purmul

  • It is of course important to educate ourselves on the ideological roots of feminism and their potential contradictions with the faith, both at their origins and when taken to their logical ends. This is part of encouraging ourselves to be mindful in our activism and self-reflective in our critiques. There may well be many ideas advanced under the label of ‘feminism’ that pose a problem for Muslims-and some that may even be antithetical to Islam. But the truth is that there are many secular ideologies that, when taken to their extremes, clearly contradict Islamic religious and moral creeds. The only way we can avoid the pitfalls of these ideologies is by looking beyond labels, evaluating the concepts themselves, and approaching them from a firm foundation in our tradition.

But as a couple we (can) form the best of "teams" and "coaches", who bring up the next generation of honourable, caring women and respectable, protecting men. So, good men need good women and vice versa.. it's not a coincidence that Allah made us and every living being in pairs.

Equality isn't justice though. Equity is justice. If there are 2 poor woman, one woman has 3 children and another 1. You wanna help them finantially and you give each 100$ to help them. You gave equally but you neglected the fact that the woman with 3 children will suffer more than the one with 1 child.

And righteous women are devoutly obedient and, when alone, protective of what Allah has entrusted them with.1 And if you sense ill-conduct from your women, advise them ˹first˺, ˹if they persist,˺ do not share their beds, ˹but if they still persist,˺ then discipline them ˹gently˺.2 But if they change their ways, do not be unjust to them. I think there is no privilege for man in islam. All the things men have to....are responsibilities...i don't find any privilege for man in islam. All the privileges are for woman. As wives, only duty is to have sex when requested by husband (also depends on the condition of the wife) and all the responsibilities go to husband. Wife doesn't need to do anything else which is obligated. But husband is obligated to do everything for the family/marriage. Even cooking, cleaning, managing home...these things are not compulsory for wives to do. But it is mandatory for husbands to put everything in order..this is just for marriage perspective.

      @shawon1694 Před 2 měsíci

@muhammedrashid8466 No, it's not. Where in the quran and sunnah u found this. It's man's responsibility to put everything in order. If a wife just wants to pray five times and be at home and doesn't cook, clean, wash clothes, she can do that, and as a husband, u can't force her to do those things. But it is compulsory for man to provide everything (food, clothes, shelter, etc.) and put those things in order. In today's world: it is literally impossible for a man to perform every responsibility properly. For example: wife wants to stay at separate home away from husband's parents, and as a husband, u r obliged to do that. Again, you have to ensure the rights of your parents also. How you will be able to do that unless you have that type of financial capability which majority of man doesn't have. So in today's world, in order to lead your life in an Islamic way as a man, you have to be rich or u don't get married. And the sexual deceive from their wife that man are going through, I didn't go through that. In Islam, it is told not to disclose sin. So today's women (almost all) who have prior sexual experience before marriage are getting married with a man (majority) who doesn't have prior sexual experience. I'm really confused: how justice will be done to these men. One time we are being told to tell the truth even if it goes against us, our family and on the other hand, as a man you are being deceived by woman and Islam told us to accept this lie.

      She isn't promoting feminism.
If you forgot to to read a dictionary
      Feminism:
"the advocacy of women's rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes."
She is promoting Islam. The Religion that Allah(swt) has perfected for all humanity.
Islam is the peak of morality.
“And they (women) have rights (over their husbands as regards living expenses) similar (to those of their husbands) over them (as regards obedience and respect) to what is reasonable, but men have a degree (of responsibility) over them. And Allaah is All-Mighty, All-Wise”
      [al-Baqarah 2:228]
It is reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The best of you are those who are best to their wives, and I am the best of you to my wives.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 5/709, no. 3895.
“Whoever works righteousness - whether male or female - while he (or she) is a true believer (of Islamic Monotheism) verily, to him We will give a good life (in this world with respect, contentment and lawful provision), and We shall pay them certainly a reward in proportion to the best of what they used to do (i.e. Paradise in the Hereafter)”
      [al-Nahl 16:97]
So we know that women have rights and duties, just as men have rights and duties. There are matters which suit men so Allaah has made them the responsibility of men, just as there are manners which suit women so He has made them the responsibility of women.

@@shalinparikh4657 bold of you to assume that i already don't use it. I've been using it for 15 years now. So tell me what's wrong with it? If women shouldn't be criticized for wearing revealing clothes because that's what they chose to wear then why should Muslim women be criticized for wearing modest abayas ? Isn't it something they chose to wear? I know Allah Almighty ordered us to wear it but at the end of the day it's our choice. We do it out of our own will. Nobody is forcing us.
And finally for the verse that you asked
“O Prophet! Say to your wives, your daughters, and the women of the believers that: they should let down upon themselves their jalabib.” (33:59).
Jalabib جَلاَبِيْبٌ is the plural of jilbabجِلْبَابٌ , which means a loose outer garment. See any Arabic dictionary like Lisanu ’l-‘Arab, Majma‘u ’l-Bahrayn or al-Munjid.
Al-Munjid, for instance, defines jilbab as “the shirt or a wide dress-القميص أو الثوب الواسع.” While al-Turayhi, in Majma‘u ’l-Bahrayn, defines it as “a wide dress, wider than the scarf and shorter than a robe, that a woman puts upon her head and lets it down on her bosom...”5
This means that the Islamic dress code for women does not only consist of a scarf that covers the head, the neck and the bosom; it also includes the overall dress that should be long and loose.
I hope that answers your question.
