Subways At Times Square: Summer 2005

  • In my first video of subways in New York City, the Times Square station complex was the choice. All lines are seen here, except for the (S) and the (7), because I ran out of tape. Sadly, I'd missed getting the (9) as that service had recently been eliminated. On the plus side... this video has my one and only shot of R40 Slants, albeit on the opposite platform.

16:06: This is back before the automated train arrival announcements came out and real people had to announce it over the intercom

I saw the olympic logo on the subway, and the street for the 2012 summer olympic bid. But we were so close.

What got me with this video is that you got two bits of history at once:
    R40S on the W
    R40M on the W
The original W train retired with those cars, talk about irony!
Also, as an aside, this video was the first video I ever saw of an R38 in service. Things were so different before the R160s and R179s took over the B division...

What time of day was this shot? I am curious if the station was less busy only a mere 15 years ago…

Roughly between 3 and 5pm, or thereabouts, on a weekday, back in 2005 or so. A closer date to help clue in, is that this was shot only a few weeks after the 9 was eliminated.
