If anyone is having the issue with the newer version of blend where when you bake the particles don't show up try increasing the "Resolution Division" setting right under the Domain type. Theirs in the video was set to 64 but I had to set mine to 128 to get the particles to really show up.

Applied scale to everything, no previous bakes existing in cache, increased resolution divisions and scaled down size of sphere (although i'm not sure that that has to do with anything). Cache end frame set to 200. Still no blue particles showing unfortunately. Will have to move onto a different tutorial :(

EXACTLY what I was looking for! I'm modelling a water spirit sculpture for 3D printing, and I want her to have this amazing spiral of gushing water encircling her at her command. I tried creating the water through regular sculping, but the detail just doesn't look random enough.
I think the only thing I have to do differently is to increase the particle density, while decreasing the partilce size in order to make the "swirl" look bigger in scale. Next, I need it frozen in time. I assume the next move is to just save the desired frame as a mesh? Is that correct?

@Robyn Adamson, you must have found out by now. (I only came across this tutorial today)
If not: it's likely because you were deleting the entire sphere using X = delete object. Delete the particle system within the particle systems panel. Otherwise it's another problem.
