- Honda 4 Stroke Outboard Motor Repairs. These older Honda motors are still good motors and easy to work on. Hopefully this helps someone fix their motor.

Thank you! You saved me a bunch of trial & error time! You are a good communicator/teacher! Loved the screwdriver circuit interruptor. My kind of guy!
Always fun to see what you’re working on next.
awesomeness i just got hold of a bf75 the 7.5hp long shaft of the same era...thanks for all those tips n tricks. i need some carb cleaner too 🖖⛵🏴☠️
Nice video! I've been on the look out for a used outboard and the other day a 1983 b100 popped up on fb market for super cheap. I jumped on it after watching these videos a few times. haha It runs, barley, and currently doesn't pee. Wise me luck! lol 😎🤙 Thanks for the vids.
Thanks man! Worked on a handful of these older Honda outboards and they are solid motors. If it’s not pumping water try filling a taller trash bin and check the outlet water spouts for debris the passages are pretty small. Also, the carb on those Honda’s are super sensitive to dirt I’d install a fuel filter if you haven’t
@@sacratboatingandfishing thanks for the tips! Funny you mention the carb, one of the fuel spouts is cracked so I ordered a new carb off Amazon for $90 and it comes with an inline filter and new gaskets. Have you purchased from Amazon before? The one I ordered has zero customer reviews, so idk, we'll see I guess. 😂😂
Can you send the link for the carb? Thanks
@@sacratboatingandfishing Hey dude, thanks for the tips! I got her running. czcams.com/video/ov6qlOKIGlg/video.html
Love the stop button fix haha
Thank you; very,very useful;
Thanks for this video...But imagine, i own a very old Honda B 45!! 1972 i think, wich was never sold tu the consumers, a kind of of factory prototype, a four stroke flat twin cylinders lateral valves about 160 cc in a very good condition and it works !! excuse my english but i'm writing from the south of france
Hi, I have a B100 that needs some repairs to the throttle/ handle and idle so the motor will not stop, when it is low idle and changing gears, any ideas?
Hi. I just picked up one of these 10 horse Hondas and the motor is stuck in neutral and won’t shift into gear. Do you have an idea of what I should be looking for. The previous owner said it was fine last summer. Thanks John
Eventually they leak oil from the top crankshaft seal and replacing the seal doesnt correct the leak.Cheers from HERE!
Thanks for sharing this invaluable tutorial. Do you have a tutorial on how to change out the oil filter for this engine?
Mr. SacRat - What fuel line would you recommend for under the cowl - Honda 7.5? I am finding lots of info online - thought I might ask... Thank you for your time.
My motor won’t start what should I start check with thanks
Hello could you help me find a carburetor? I have the same model and year
Just did a Honda BF7.5, it came on a 1436 I bought. It had not been run in years. Mud wasps had plugged everything up, plus old gas. I cleaned everything and it started up on 2nd pull. My question is....how strong should the waterpump exit flow be on these small Hondas? Thanx, and love these fix it videos!!
The exit flow isn’t super strong. I’ve put a new impeller in and didn’t notice a significant difference from the old one. I would check the inlet manifold for dirt. The spouts are narrow and clog easy so try spraying carb cleaner in the top spout and a clean out the bottom spout of debris. I’ve had to do that on the last 2 Honda motors that weren’t pumping water
Thanks for watching appreciate the support!
Great outboard. Thanks for the video. Had one for years . Always run it dry after use. Check for insects plugging pee pipe first with small wire, then do your procedure
Have you ever replaced the breather aparatus? The crankcase vent aka breather. It’s under the flywheel and there’s tube that runs down the side of the motor. I have the 85. 5 hp honda ( Bf50s). It’s leaking oil from top. Under flywheel. Possibly the breather valve. I can’t find anything on CZcams. Any help? Thanks
Unfortunately I haven’t replaced that part. I like the website boats.net they have good diagrams and parts that might help find the issue
Hi. I just picked up one of those 10 horse Hondas and it starts right up but is stuck in neutral. Would you have any idea what I should be looking at ?
Thanks John
Drop the lower unit. That'll isolate where the jam is- either in the linkage between the lever and the lower (not likely), or in the lower itself. At that point, you're faced with pulling the lower apart, or finding another one that works. My advice: If you're not familiar with what's inside or how it all works, buy another lower and take the bad one apart so you can learn how it all works. If you fix it, you now have two working lowers so you can sell one. Most importantly, get ahold of a manual, preferably an OEM Honda manual.
*edit- I'm assuming the engine is running when you're trying to put it in gear? If not, give the cord a short pull and it may go in gear. Or, try it with the engine running. If it still doesn't work, see above.
I have the same motor but 10hp and I’m missing the entire pull cord recoil thing on top would you sell the one off your parts motor?
Unfortunately I don’t have it anymore. I think the 7.5 & 10HP use the same recoil starter. I bought one on eBay for $50
I have the same rounded fuel connector on my 1980s Honda 10hp. I've cleaned the carb and fuel pump filter. The motor bogs down at wide open throttle. Is the rounded fuel connector the likely problem? TIA!
Most likely the carb needs cleaning again those carbs are sensitive. Clean the jets and every opening that allows fuel and air. Once i had a fuel pump filter that was warped and restricted fuel flow you could try removing it. Last resort try fine tweaking air mixture screw

Can you post the link to the amazon connector for the fuel line
www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07FSRZNN8?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title#
It was this style connector. It’s not the greatest quality but it’s $10 and fit through the hole once I removed the original fuel connector receiver
I am looking for a new handle for.this motor. Any idea where I might get one?
just use a length of old broom handle
Hey I have the same engine but its not running good I clean the carb and the back fuel filter and nothing I do have a bf8a 1997 both are long shaft but the 8hp is not peeing I try everything from new thermostat to a new intake gasket New impeller clean all the hoses and nothing you think that I can use the lower part from the 10hp to the newer 8hp ?
Could be one of many issues. Is it not pumping water when mounted to a boat or are you testing in a bucket? The water intake on those motors is pretty high up the lower unit so your bucket might not be high enough with water. Disconnect the hose at the top of the inlet manifold and if you see water coming out, if so then your impeller works if not your impeller is bad. Spray a bunch of wd40 at the top spout of the inlet manifold and you should see it come out the bottom spout if not there’s a clog. Or if you took the lower unit apart the copper water line may not be lined up
I have a 25 gallon container high enough to reach the lower unit and circulate enough water the impeller is brand new I replaced the two gaskets that go underneath the impeller as well I only see bobbles coming out of the lower unit. How can I tell that the copper line is install correctly? I always fit it in the water pump housing. thanks for taking your time to answer all the comments I really appreciate your answer
Nice! And how about the timing belt? Can you still get it?
What about the timing belt?
Could u tell me on this particular motor there is stop button on tiller handle. Mines missing ..also What is the 2 wires on the left side for..it's on side where the shifter is. Thanks any help would be greatly appreciated
Don’t have this motor anymore but the 2 wires you’re referring to I think are for hooking up to a computer for motor hours etc.. If you have the serial number, boats.net should have the parts and diagram for your motor
@ MOPARSANDGUITARS
The 10 hp motors can charge a battery & the Green light flashing ( as in this guys video...) Shows that the charging circuit is working. - From my research on line.....
my bf75 stop button is on the main body
Do you have a link for the fuel line connector? I just bought a 10hp with the round pin and can’t find the right connector.
I don’t have a link to the round pin but here’s a link to an Amazon one I’ve used that fits: www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07FSRZNN8?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title#
It’s kind of cheap material but it works. If you replace the round connector its hard to find a replacement fuel connector that fits through the hole on the motor. I had a brass Johnson connector that fit one of the Hondas I’ve worked on but most Yamaha and Mercury fuel connectors I’ve tried don’t fit through the hole
Thank you. I’ve decided to delete the old round connection and extend the gas line through the hole.
Having the same problem with my male and female gas fitting
Evenrude fuel connecters work
I have a 7.5 hp with no spark . its a 1970's honda with points ignition . have you trouble shot one in this era ?
No I haven’t but I’d probably start with simple and cheap troubleshooting. Try a new spark plug or try a light up test wire to see if you have spark. I once had an issue with the spark plug cover not touching the inside wire cuz it was impacted with dirt and not getting spark. Not sure if that model has a cdi but that would be most expensive repair option
@@sacratboatingandfishing Points Ignition as mentioned in the first post
Did you ever resolve your problem? I have same issue with my 1971 Honda B75k1. Orange and White. No spark. Points ignition
Bro I might snatch up a Honda 7.5 tomorrow on OfferUp , no spark , any tips?
Best case bad wire or ground. Worst case bad cdi/ignition coil. I actually have a 7.5 Honda I was thinking of parting out with a good cdi if you wanted to buy parts
@@sacratboatingandfishing you don’t think neutral safety or low oil sensor could do that ?
@@mrantone916 it could be the stop button wires. I’d look over all the wires cdi, ignition coil, spark plug boots and stop button for nicks and corrosion on the grounds too. If all wiring checks out then probably a bad cdi or coil
@@sacratboatingandfishingsweet. I’ll def be interested in parts for sure thanks.
@@mrantone916 Did you figure your issue out? I have a 71 Honda bk75k1 the orange and white model. No spark. Cant seem to get this thing started. Its point ignition so trying to start there.
It’s a Honda 100
