To retire undefeated is one hell of an achievement all the best in retirement Chael!
I was getting kinda down after watching this, your comment made me LOL haha
what? He is not undefeated? wait this is a joke?
@@imperators1012 if you were CaptObvious you would of got the joke.
CaptGamer 101 yes and undisputed
The lineal champ has never lost, he's also the highest paid athlete of all time
Chaels promise to his father was that he would become a champion before he died. Chaels deeply emotional response proves to all of us that he IS a champion. A champion at heart. Your father would be proud mate.
good point
Couldn’t have said it better. Well said sir.
He basically was a champ in WEC. He beat Filho and only didn't get the belt because Filho missed weight 🤷♂️
@@RWJ127 beat that 5'3" woman's ass too
One of my top 5 favorites so sad
I'd just tell him I tried. Powerful stuff
right?!? man that line got me. i never thought Chael would ever make me feel anything like that
Dude is as real as they come.
yeah he just knew how to play a bad guy while being a good person. something that i think gets lost on the colby's of this generation
Jay Sakong people just don’t realize that bad guys are supposed to be likeable as well.
That part made me tear up as well.
"I'd just tell him I tried"
Where the men cried
The way he hit you with the "I'd just tell him I tried" shattered my heart dude. He wanted that belt for his dad. Chael is a champion in my eyes though and I bet his father's too. You're the man Chael.
Chael is one of the best things that happened to mma
Milos Mar I agree
The build up to his 1st fight with Silva everyone was calling him funny but delusional...the 2nd fight he had everyones attention but couldnt capitalize and made a rookie mistake throwing a spinning move as a non striker...after that he just couldnt reach the top again
@@nothx962 Very true, that spinning backfist from Chael came as a result of him panicking since Anderson started to stuff the takedown in the 2nd. I think if Chael had gone for another takedown instead of the spinning backfist, he would have given Anderson some more issues. His double leg was phenomenal.
Don’t you mean Matt Damon!
Love his Podcast hes the man
It's a sad day when the Godfather of Trash Talking retires
ric flair is mate lol
garry Coop in mma it’s definitely Chael, in wrestling an argument could be made for Billy Graham.
Yeah it was sad when conor mcgregor retired couple months ago 🤣😂
@@AkamapD didn't say the jester of Trash Talking was more implying The original Gangster
And the undisputed undefeated champion of the world
Id just tell him I tried :(. We love you Chael and your father does too
Chael is a real warrior. I have not been an MMA fan for very long but have followed him for quite sometime now his fights , podcast , his . It has been a real privilege and honor. The pieces didnt fit.. But WE tried;and that is worth everything. God bless.
retirement: I am coming Chael
Chael: "I can't let you get close"
Goat comment
LOL 😂
Holy shit bro when that question came up about his dad I almost cried.
I cried 😪
Paul Illicete This is probably a stupid question but what was his promise to his dad? Was it him bringing home a title?
@@pmc4life I might be wrong but I think he told his dad that hes gonna win a tittle before his dad died
@@pmc4life the way he choked up when he said I tried. That was seriously an emotional moment
@@miloveshredding41 I think you're right
Chael is a champion. Made the sport bigger and always built other guys behind him. MMA legend.
There will only ever be one Chael Sonnen. Hope he continues to be around the sport for a long time.
Not really. He was never really that good.
@@iClone316 he has one of the, if not the best double leg in the game, ya fucking goober
@@iClone316 Hey fool, he just for over four & a half rounds, he just kicked the shit-for out off the most dominant light heavy weight EVER in the peak of his career who had cleaned out the division thats all.. ESPN quote; ANDERSON SILVA was the UFC's longest reigning champion and also holds the longest winningand title defense streak in UFC history, with 16 consecutive wins and 10 title defenses, and is the consensus No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world according to ESPN,
Chael will continue to be a big influence on MMA similar to Bas Rutten or Michael Bisping, he already has a CZcams Channel which is incredibly good. Literally the first guy to get TJ Dillashaw to admit he took steroids during an interview based off a whim of seeing him at a bellator event. Chael could even do Grappling events if he got the urge to compete again, with minimal wear and tear on his body and not having to worry about getting hit. He's been in the game along time fighting the best in the world, Every fighter comes to a point where it's better they stop fighting, some last longer than others; Chael has given more than enough of his fair share of mma fights
As someone who lost their dad at 18, that “I tried” fucking hurt my heart
At heart, Chael is a gentleman. He definitely tried really hard, and never backed down from a fight. Congrats to Chael on an awesome career. Look at his resume. Sure he's lost some fights, but he beat a lot of really good fighters and fought a serious murderers row. Machida, Fedor, Rampage, Wanderlei Silva, Shogun, Anderson Silva, Jon Jones, Rashad Evans, Michael Bisping, Brian Stann etc. I hope he's proud. An early happy Father's Day to him.
Shit my jaw hurts reading that damn list of killers, the fact that he still has a face after completing that meat grinder is impressive. Shit he couldve lost all of those bouts and i still would be impressed he was alive
He's a top lad
All of those pride guys were old and pretty washed up.
I cried it was fathers day over here when this went out. What a sad interview and day for mma. Chael is the man. His podcast is the best out there
Chael fought the BEST OF THE BEST in almost ALL upper weight classes!! Took them on short notice and never backed down from a fight...ever! Dads proud...enjoy retirement.
I almost shed a tear when he said "I tried". Love you Uncle Chael!!!
“I’d just tell him I tried.” Powerful quote, everyone has a way to apply that to their own life and experiences.
Used to hate this guy during the Silva era but his trash talk was for ppvs... pretty intelligent guy I found out had my respect
Yeah Chael Made MMA Huge From 2009 to 2014 and Mcgregor Made it Bigger from 2014 to 2017 Big Time .Chael was pretty Good He was like 22-10 When He Fought Silvia n 2012 and Chael ended up 30-17 Total Fought for about 4 World Titles at Middle Weight and Light Heavy Weight .He was Ranked Number 1 at 185 Middle Weight and Number 2 at 205 Light Heavy Weight at Height of His HYping up Fights Second wind of Prime around 2011 Around age 34 or 35 .And Mcgregor A 2 Time Double Champion n Cage Warriors and UFC at Feather Weight and Light Weight With a Record of 21-4 .
Very true
Cheal is still 0-1 against Captain Obvious
@@brianblair8043 Cheal didn't make MMA huge. Cheal made the fight build up exciting. He knew how to promote his own fights before anyone else. McGregor is what he is because of Chael Sonnen
Chael almost beat prime Silva.
Broke my heart when Chael said he'd say to his dad that he tried..
I have followed his career and I wish him all the best.
Damn I really wanted Chael to get the belt... IM WITH CHAEL
He had so many chances
I can tell he felt that. And so did I
cry
My heart literaly broke when Chael got choked up 😢😢😢
No. It didn't.
It literally didn’t.
Wild how such a simple statement can bring tears to my eyes.
Shogun demolished machida, sonnen demolished shogun, and machida obliterated sonnen. Gotta love mma math
I don't think losing by KO ir getting finished is being "demolished", it's a fight and can go either way. But yes, Machida defeat Sonnen pretty easy
The sonnen that fought shogun wasnt as famous and non motivated....he still had both feet in the water. I dont doubt that sonnen of 2011 or 2012 beats machida of 2011/12 but the last few years chael has gotten really comfy in his non fighting activities and you cant blame him. How many jobs with fox/espn/podcasts has machida had? None. All he has to make money is his fists, feet and (apparently) knees lol. That will keep you in the game and motivated for far longer. Sonnen is a multi millionaire with a gorgeous wife, new kids and family, and his name/mouth alone holds monetary value now...if you ever want a roadmap on how to get unmotivated as a fighter or pro athlete...there it is
Reynaldo Vieira getting ko’d is demolished...
@@70mjc i don't think so, anyone can get ko'd, even in close fights. Getting demolished is getting dominated
Uhh. Shogun lost the first fight against machida. Machida got clipped in the second fight n lost. He wasnt obliterated.. He just got unlucky.
2;37 chael almost cried, it's fathers day tomorrow in my country (at least in the phil) chael will always be 1 of my favorite MMA fighters.
“I tried.” No Chael...you achieved. Your dad IS happy with what you achieved as the American Gangsta.
People need to remember that all jokes aside Chael has fought every single relevant fighter in 2 generations across promotions and across weight classes. He’s literally a legend of the sport
@L S Facts
Chael sonnen is the goat of GOATS. The greatest fighter to ever walk the earth.
At least he retired undefeated
@Libra Edits You must be a new mma fan if you didn't get the joke.

Last word of the video “daddy” from Chael’s daughter. Priceless.

That moment that he cried , it made me choke , just gotta love that man, much respect from Brazil

Deeply moving, the love for a man's promise to his father. Huge fan of Chael- absolutely a champion athlete and King of the truth. One of a kind
Absolutely buddy. Sad day for this sport when uncle chael retires. Best podcast ever though!
What did he promise his father

You may not have won the title but you won our hearts, we all love you Chael
Love him or hate him hes a legend and helped change our favorite sport called mixed martial arts
Grats to Machida, one of the best ever. Chael also a great. I still think the most impressive moment in his career was when he was putting the beat down on then an untouchable Anderson Silva until the final moments of the last round. That was before Anderson got KO'd by Weidman and was easily the greatest fighter in history untouchable and Chael actually man-handled him to the ground and shocked the world.
@oneviwatara even still, he was owning Anderson like we've seen him Anderson get owned since Yushin Okami submitted him.
@oneviwatara they were all on steroids. Anderson got caught with clomiphene in one of his welcome to my crib videos.
Anderson has been popped twice for them. Here, hold your stupid sign!
I was the only person in the bar rooting for Sonnen. Everyone was so miserable watching Silva get manhandled the entire fight. I was so happy. Then, he got subbed and the Spider band wagoners rose once again. I was so mad. But hey, that’s MMA for ya.
@oneviwatara Anderson was juiced too.
The fact that in the last moments of his MMA career, Chael Sonnen sticks to what made us all love him from beginning, being the satire towards Machida about the “controversial decision when the referee pulled you off of me punching me in the face” shows his heart, character, and integrity. A true treasure that should be a member of the UFC Hall of Fame. A legend. Undefeated. Undisputed. Chael Sonnen. Thank you Chael.
When he said " I tried " that hit my soul 😭😭 it's all good Chael your one of the most entertaining fighters to watch but also one of the best 🙏🏽
LOVE the guy. Thanks for everything, look forward to following whatever you do next.
Love the humanity and honesty of Chael!
moving moments.
His simple answer was deeper than I expected..good bless you sir
Nah, fuck him. He historically never back up all the mouth he had. I'm sure when his father was alive he never expected him to live up to that promise. He never was able to get the job done.
@@martialarts8655 Yet he still accomplished more then you could ever dream of.
@@mixnflix101 in what sense? My business is running and I'm making good money. I have actually accomplished my goals because I worked hard.
He ran his mouth, got lucky but never beat anyone that was great. All the real fighters beat the fuck out if him. Hell, he cheated with TRT to get over on Silva.
He has more money than me. Those are facts. But he hasn't accomplished shit. He's was a gatekeeper and a cheat with a fast mouth.
I'm sure his father would agree that he's trash and never got the job done.

Thank you Chael! Enjoyed your whole carrier. Miss the pre fight interviews, one of the best to hype whats to come.
Incredible sense of humor, fantastic entertainer, great fighter, never ducked or dodged a single fight, great analyst, good man outside the spotlight, and overall just one of a kind. That's a champion in my book.
2:28 c'mon! How can you ask a question like that for goodness sake.
Ikr fuck sake think it was brett okamoto or what ever his name is
Right! Bet he wldnt ask Conor that!
@grizzlytomahawk he should have said: "Remember that life goal promise you made to your deceased father, so as you failed miserably and were unable to achieve that, what are your thoughts on the matter?!"
@regular_dude Lol are you seriously going to SJW the bad guy? of all people you think chael wants your white knighting? bro its a media scrum there are 100 ways he couldve worded that question to be a dick. That's not a bad question and I bet if you asked chael he wouldn't have thought so either. This isn't the first time he choked talking about his dad, people know how chael feels about his dad and his promise.
Exactly how I felt when I first heard it, why would they ask him that question???? Assholes
Machida has aged friggin' well.
Chael took on the toughest SOB's in the sport. No matter the age, a lot of people fear that and won't go near it! He went for it! Period! Exclamation!
My favorite moment is at the end, I swear I can hear his daughter say, “daddy!” And that’s seriously the most heartwarming thing to me, win or lose he will always have the support of his family, friends and fans

Man his lil daughter saying “daddy” at the last second of the video almost brought a tear to my eye. Perfect moment. Legendary career.
I was just glad that my dad was there when I stepped off of the track after my last 1500m race of my last collegiate decathlon. I placed second, even though I thought I would win and trained to. I cried in my dad’s arms. He brought us up hard, picking g us up after school from an early age to do manual labor for his business. Our college coaches told my brother and I that they could tell that we had parents that made us work manual labor and that they had only seen work like that from that kind of back ground. We dug ditches by hand all summer and moved lumber by hand every day that I was a child. I have my dad to thank for that, even if he is an asshole. Pride in your work only comes from creativity and working hard at what you will create.x
