I must say, hey this sounds better than the original to me. Like he is actually singing, he got some voice control, has wider range. Of course the original is original, but he just sings much better now. Back then he was just shouting and screaming, destroying his voice. Now he is the real singer.
But if you listen carefully, you can hear a piano doubling the vocal part. He didn't know how to properly sing at that time, so the piano served as a point of reference. Now he knows how to actually sing and not just match pitches.

I like the modern sound of his voice. I don't like the mix, I think the vocals are too loud and could use more reverb. I also don't like the change in timing. But then i'm overly biased by the original like most others. Just a first impression

James was never rlly bad at singing, his voice just aged. I think really only 1994 wasn't his proudest moment but still.
