I mean ok but am I the only one who is shocked to see D4 on that list? Man can you imagine Diablo 4 on par with Baldur Gates 3? How is this even in the list first it's a super shitty game and second it's NOT an RPG comparable to a Fallout or even a Mass Even or Starfield but hack and slash game action RPG, has nothing to do with story oriented RPGs, so yea instant unsub shit channel trying really hard to sell their masters product to the most credulous people.
Well, I will admit Starfield is not the number one RPG of the year by far that definitely goes to baulders gate 3 it is still really really good game. It’s problem is that it has a lot of mechanics that it doesn’t explain and you gotta get used to and figure that stuff out for yourself which isn’t fun but once you get all the mechanics down and the base building and all the missions and all that stuff it is actually a very solid RPG, that is getting a lot of hate when it shouldn’t
I don’t even consider FF16 much of an RPG since they gutted out most of the popular systems from previous entries.
@@jtzoom86I think most are discovering that it is a dated system we’ve seen many times before and in some regards such as loading screens and bland procedurally generation, a significant step back.
It’s now down to mostly poor reviews on Steam as most people realise it couldn’t match the expectations and hype that Bethesda promised. It’s a strong 7 in my book and it’s weird saying that IGN got it right. It’s not a poor game, but it’s not great and doesn’t show anything improved or new.
Seeing it at number 1 on this list certainly goes against the majority views and other awards and rankings currently of the game.

Giving Starfield the number one spot on anything other than a loading screen simulator is unacceptable especially when you have it beat a game like Baldurs Gate 3.

Hack-n-Slash or Click to Hit / Shoot aren't really RPGs, they are ACTION GAMES, whether fantasy or not.
Now, Neverwinter Nights (1, 2, or Enhanced Edition) or Baldur's Gate are a real RPG Game.
Even Final Fantasy Tactics is more RPG than these games, sadly.. lol

@nwngenisys8969 I think these days, any game that has even a bit of customization to its characters skills or weapons is considered RPG by these guys. In that case, a game like Doom Eternal is not a fps game but a RPG as well since it has weapon Mods and allows "Stat allocation" between HP, Armor etc.....
This is just a matter of opinion like I said myself I personally enjoyed the game once I learned all the mechanics and dealt with the weight issues and the flying around and all the spacecraft stuff. It’s actually a pretty damn good in death RPG now I wouldn’t give it the number one spot that would definitely go to Baldor gate three, but it would be in my top three.
Wether it's their actual opinion or not, it gets people commenting and moving the algorithm on yt.
@@oblikuathe trade off is lack of respect and trust. IGN have improved but they have dealt with a bad reputation for years due to perceived poor and questionable reviews from the majority of viewers.
The fact that Wild Hearts and Starfield are on this list at all while there is no mention of Sea of Stars, Octopath Traveler 2, or even World of Horror, is pretty much all you need to know about this list.
This is the 1st time I’ve seen anyone rank Starfield higher than Baldur’s Gate 3. I own both games. Haven’t started Starfield yet but I’m having a blast with BG3
well when you finish bg3 and start srarfield you will realize ... why you should have started a second playthrough instead

Wow, Starfield is definitely not better than end. Bald doors gate three it is definitely a good game now. They do a shitty job of explaining all the systems and all that but once you learn all the stuff like weight management, building ships forming alliances and all the weapon stuff it is actually a pretty good in death RPG I know people say stuff about the loading screens, but just because there’s loading screens doesn’t mean the game isn’t good, this is just a opinion piece and this is my opinion

It’s the first time I’ve seen it beat many of the other games in the list too. It’s their list, but it’s a rare one and an outlier.

To overlook Sea of Stars and Octopath Traveler 2, or even Remnant 2 for Horizon, Dead Island 2, and especially Starfield is a criminal travesty. Gamingbolt had their AAA glasses on for this one.
I completely forgot about CS stars that is a fantastic game that brings up memories of CHRONO trigger from back in the day another excellent game. In fact, this is been a damn good year for RPG‘s in general small land big.
@jtzoom86 agreed. Even went back and got Chrono Trigger again on 3ds to experience again. Both Sea of Stars and Chrono are gems.

Again, this is just my opinion on it. I’ve played all these games and I believe that baulders gate 3 is definitely the best RPG of the year. Now when it comes to Starfield, it’s getting a lot of hate from a lot of people and I suspect some of these people have a played it. The problem with Starfield is that it’s got a lot of mechanics and a lot of systems that aren’t explained very well, but when you get used to how all this stuff works and all the side missions, the shipbuilding And all the faction stuff it is actually a pretty damn solid RPG. the biggest issue with Starfield is that it was super built up and it didn’t quite live up to what it was supposed to be but that does not mean the game is not fun and enjoyable because it definitely is I have over 120 hours into the game
remnant2 is probably the best rpg and coop game i've played in recent years, up there with elden ring and sekiro. but starfield got no 1 is crazy. dude probably bethesda diehard fan. lol

This is an opinion piece and they are clearly just giving their opinion. Now I’ve played Starfield for about 130 hours and I’ve also played baulders gate 3 for about half of that time and I will admit Baldor gate is a better game but that does not mean that Starfield isn’t a good game Starfield problem is that it’s got so many mechanics that just aren’t explained when you get used to all the stuff that you do in the game it is actually a very very solid RPG and people aren’t the kudos to the game that it deserves. It’s a good game, don’t hate it just because everybody else does if you’ve never played it, you should not be talking about how bad it is

When one of the top mods calls the game boring and announces they are no longer modding for it should indicate something has gone wrong. Looking at this channel saying Microsoft won the year is also certainly very strange considering Phil Spencer said at the end of the year they had lost this generation and the PS5 was dominating. Microsoft exclusives mostly failed. Sony may have had much fewer than normal, but they all hit and the old ones still exist. It’s a bizarre video that only an Xbox fanboy could believe…with difficulty.
I think that context makes this ranking more understandable. I think this reviewer clearly prefers Xbox for some reason.

It’s interesting to me the number of titles on here that are games with RPG mechanics while they ignore one of the great pure RPGs of the year: Octopath 2 doesn’t even get an honorable mention, but Dead Island and the Horizon DLC are on here? (No shade on Dead Island 2 or Horizon’s DLC, I thought both were great.)

I totally forgot about dead island. I really miss the borderlands×left4dead sort of gameplay. I remember getting super lucky in finding a ludicrously overpowered katana and never putting it down after realizing how incredibly fun it was to slaughter massive hordes single handedly.

I do love Starfield but I I’ll say idk if I’d go to these guys for rpg info. Their definition of rpg is loose based on this list and they don’t even include games like octopath 2 or my personal number two game of the year behind Zelda, sea of Stars
They tend to ignore most JRPGs. They probably included FFXVI because of how action-focused it is, had it been a bit more "traditional", they would have most likely ignored it as well.

Games in 2024 are supposed to be a mix of Apple Vision, Pokemon GO, and GTA
I was supposed to go to an actual bar nearby correctly guess a ridge and pick the right cocktail, then a "Ghost" detective was supposed to show up in my apple vision telling me about the case he was on in 1947 while he was taken down by Mickey Cohen and he wants me to go to Pasadena to follow the criminal trail he stumbled upon.

I’m not too crazy about how rpgs have evolved over the years. It’s unfortunately more about action and spamming your buttons, grinding out damage sponge bosses than it is about role playing

I don’t think this site is is biased at all. It’s all a matter of opinion now it’s definitely not as good as baulders gate 3 by a longshot, but it is still a damn good game when you actually figure out all the mechanics and how everything works this shipbuilding, jumping from star systems all that kind of stuff base building it is actually a damn good game you just gotta give it a chance. They could’ve done a better job of explaining all the mechanics in the game and they did not do that but luckily they’re coming out with a huge patch that’s supposed to solve this and again, this is just a matter of opinion

I agree 100% Starfield is the best rpg, Starfield has a lot of haters, but currently this the only game where you can travel to many different worlds and discover new things. And for the people that have a negative mindset and are comparing it to 2077 and other games are clueless. Cyberpunk phantom liberty is only based in one world, or should I say one city, so of course it’ll look better. The developers have put a lot of effort into one city, not many worlds. You can’t even get off the planet lol. And no man’s sky? It’s outdated and looks like a cartoon space game. As for other rpgs, again you can only play in a one world environment. So by that being said Starfield wins in my book.

Everyone has their own opinion hence why this is an opinion Piece. I wouldn’t put Starfield at number one but it’s definitely in the top five because no matter what a bunch of people say to hate on the game when you get into it and you learn it’s mechanics. It’s actually a very very good game. It’s a solid story shipbuilding and all other kinds of stuff. It’s really not that bad but I would say Baltimore gate three would be my number one pick that game is phenomenal. I put Starfield probably three or four maybe. Again, this is just a matter of opinion. Just because somebody doesn’t like it doesn’t mean it’s not good to somebody else.

I’d pick Dead Island 2 any day. Dying Light 2 feels clunky, dull and slow, and the characters provoke almost no reaction in me most of the time. Dead Island actually wants you to have fun.
