    Sounds like global warming impacts Ararat valley only. Thanks to Hovik Abrahamyan illegally pumps the artesian waters and turns the whole land and couple of villages into a complete desert, while 15 years ago this land was a paradise.

    Thank you for all you do, and specifically for bringing up the challenges Sevan faces in this show. I only wish you would reconsider your stance on Amulsar, and other mining operations which are threatening the health of our water. These mines will destroy our “land and water”, and we are foolish to think we will be the one place to successfully manage tailing ponds long term.
    I understand that Armenia needs to “get rich” but mining is simply not the way.

    Everyone talks about oil being the csuse of wars. Yes, but many more wars have been and are being fought for 100 years now for water. Armenia needs to focus on itself, and make big moves to make it a place diasporans will want to visit. That will be the first step for many, especially Western Armenians, to consider moving there. It needs to be a liveable place, not the post Gyumri earthquake and post Artsakh conflict state that dominates the perception of many.

    Armenia could explore collaborating with Georgia to access water from the Black Sea. This would require constructing pipelines or other infrastructure to transport the water over considerable distances and through mountainous terrain. Similarly, we could cooperate with Iran to access the Caspian Sea, which would also involve significant infrastructure investments, including pipelines and potentially desalination facilities if seawater is used. Israel has successfully addressed its water scarcity by filtering saltwater, providing a proven model for us. Building desalination plants near the Black Sea or the Caspian Sea and transporting the desalinated water to Lake Sevan could be a viable solution. Although desalination is expensive and energy-intensive, requiring substantial investment and operational costs, advancements in technology and regional cooperation could make it more feasible. While this approach would demand significant resources, it could be a necessary step to ensure the sustainability of Lake Sevan and address our water needs.

    • @ArmenianBishop
      @ArmenianBishop Před 26 dny

      It's an idea, but desalination is expensive. Importing Georgia's Caucasus Mountains Snow-Melted Water is another possibility. But, Georgia politics are difficult to predict.

      @surfsands Před 25 dny

      The caspian is polluted and is shrinking fast from dams, water overuse and gross environmental mismanagement. Unfortunately it's not an option. Through Georgia is an option though, although it would lead to a greater political dependency on the country.

    With all due respect, main pollution cause in Sevan is fish farming, as described by Dadi et al. Solar panels will disrupt the evaporation and hence, biogeochemistry and entire ecosystem of the lake. This has been previously discussed and found not to be feasible. A great analysis of the current causes of lake Sevan ecosystem disruption and measures for restoration can be found in Sevan 2024-2030 strategy.

    There has been only a degree and a half Centigrade rise in temperature over the past 150 years. With increased CO2 there has been a very significant greening of the earth according to NASA. Due to CO2 having basically reached its saturation point, any increase in CO2 cannot have any noticeable effect on temperature
