I’m just glad my boy Knux is being portrayed properly again like the strong prideful warrior he is.
Damn it. But Knux is supposed to be a stupid dumb brute. What are these writers doing? How will he be funny and enjoyable as a character if he isn’t dumber than a toddler
Yeah exactly, I mean out of most if not all of Sonic's friends, he's probably the strongest, most prideful like you said, and knows a lot about the place he lives in but his good side often gets overwhelmed by his... Less good side like how he gets easily tricked by eggman in the past and his naivety outside of his island and how he's portrayed in sonic boom (the show) and sonic forces: a dumbass who leaves the important work for the others on his side, this is why I like sonic movie 2 because of the way it portrays the good side of knuckles, and his less good side is only shown openly at the end of the movie.

Obviously the entire cast has been flanderized, but Knux and Tails got it the worst. And this is a great sign, I really hope they bring back their late 90’s early to mid 2000’s personalities.

Forces and boom knuckles: a strong and stupid clechie that they also made the leader of a restance for some reson even tho his skills (in all varations) would fare way better as a solder in the frontlines
This animation almost made me cry its such a shock to see the Sonic lore and characters prepresented properly within the game canon
Ian Flynn has been the Sonic comic book for both Archie and the IDW comics for a long time he knows and understands theses characters very well.
I absolutely will not give credit if sega released Sonic Origins to familiarize everyone with the game lore to make EXTRA sure everyone would understand that this new game was finally gonna be focusing on the lore. I doubt they'd have that much foresight.
But the way things are shaping up. I think this is like the real deal Sonic 4. Like a real sequel.
At 4:30 I thought knuckles was flying for a sec but he’s just gliding it’s awesome that this is probably the first time we see knuckles use his ability in animation
Does the OVA count? Granted, he keeps gliding alongside Tails in the one scene he is gliding.
We technically see him gliding in a sonic riders zero gravity cutscene

I like how in the gameplay footage, it took Sonic multiple hits to take down the ninjas while for Knuckles, it only takes one or two. Bros strength is crazy
Dude the fact that they actually use the lore and reference previous games already shows how much more in touch Ian Flynn is with the fan base than the previous writers I love it so much
I liked how nice he was to the Chao.

@@thembill8246 Really the last time Sonic had a deep serious story was Sonic and the black knight which was back in 2009.
It’s satisfying having an actual reason for Knuckles to be in the story, along with how his characterization is on point. If this carries over to the game, we could have the best Sonic story ever, period. Also yes the visuals are pure eye candy, color me surprised that this along with the prequel comic are solid enough to make people excited for Frontiers. Now I can’t wait to see where it picks up in the game, it’s up to Sonic Team to deliver on their promises now, I can’t wait to get my hands on the game and play now!
Knuckles is SOOOO well written and voiced here. Really shows you the impact of Flynn’s writing. I also CANNOT wait to find out about the back story of the emeralds. I’ve been wanting to know that ever since I became a Sonic fan!
What if Angel Island originally was part of the Starfall islands, the original tribe was that ancient tribe of this game and the Echidna took their island and build a village where the Master Emerald is and they tried to take the Emerald power when it isn't belong to them, Perhaps that is why the Master Emerald created Chaos, it chose a Chao to protect his brothers and the temple from the Echidnas who tried to invade it, but allowed the entrance of Tikal's grandmother and then Tikal since they they were of pure heart unlike the rest of the Echidna, after the invasion of the Echidnas, Perfect Chaos destroyed the village but not all the Echidnas, they only saw in Chaos hatred and destruction before he was locked inside the Master Emerald, the surviving Echidnas mistakenly thought that Chaos was a god, punishing them for being power hungry, giving him the name of the god of destruction because it is the only thing they ever saw of him, the survivors made the mural of Chaos destroying the world and they take the job of protecting the Master Emerald so that it would not fall into the wrong hands and this would not be repeated, but this knowledge was lost in time, remaining only as it is a duty without knowing why they had to do this, Knuckles being the last descendant of that line and the last of his race
While that's a cool theory it's unlikely as Ian de-confirmed it on Twitter when someone brought up the same idea and pointed out how it would be contradictory to SA1

@@ivanelugo Ian Flynn recently stated that Angel Island is a part of the Mystic Ruins and to quarantine Chaos she separated it and had it float in the air.
However, he did specifically say Angel Island, so I guess it's possible the Sky Sanctuary could have already been up there and kinda "crashed" into Angel Island making them connect to each other.
However~however, Knuckles did state in the animation that the warp totem was much older than the rest of the Sky Sanctuary ruins, so it's likely the Sanctuary was built around the totem at a later date.

Yeah, this was surprisingly loaded, and finally revealing the Emeralds' origins after 30 years is very interesting. I'm sure Frontiers' story and writing will be a home run

This prologue got me thinking about the main theme of the game "I'm Here" and how the line "Can you hear the spirits sing lost messages of long ago?" could as well be referring to the Kocos and the Ancients... what suddenly got me in the middle of the thought was how in-game - you don't really see the Koco anywhere until you've stopped to take a look.
Gave me adventure vibes sooo much man. They really acknowledging the adventure 1 story. As well as seeing knuckles do his finisher from sonic heroes. The lore is going to be interesting too. I’m thinking that Tikal is coming back in this game, if that’s the case OH MY GOD. Gotta get used to the knuckles voice.
This makes me want another Sonic cartoon that retells the events of the games in a single story

Ian is such a good writer and the others too of course if anything the story is what I am most excited for like are we about the learn the origins of the Master Emerald and the Chaos Emeralds? Are the Ancients connected to the Echidna Tribe? So many questions are popping up that I hope get answered well we will see in a week
If we finally find out what they really are, it will be another thing they took inspiration from the movie
If they are detailing the Chaos Emeralds' creation, then Unleashed is retconned even more.
Yeah I'm super confused about the real backstory of the Chaos Emeralds. Like some of the Sonic games seem to tell different stories about it's origins.
How so? I don't recall Unleashed really detailing anything besides the temples harnessing the power of the Emeralds, which can still be much younger than the ancients were.
9:04 if you saw any of the poor quality gameplay leaks, you'd see that Amy was able to talk and scream for help too. It was the part where people realized that the scene in the story trailer where Sonic finds Amy isn't CGI in the game.

This was so good, animation is fantastic (I want to see a sonic series like this) and the music is beautiful. Makes me happy seeing Knuckles shine. At first he wasn’t my one of my favourite characters but over time I really appreciate and enjoy him, this gets me so hype too, so many questions… all the references too are real nice. ❤
One thing that still pokes at my brain whenever I see this trailer, Knuckles seems afraid or at the very least shocked when sees Sage. Not the titan, he looks closely to see who is atop the titan. He looks at Sage and then panics. I can't wait for Frontiers to drop and give us the best iteration of these characters that we grew up with.
The amount of lore in this one animation had me in awe! Not to mention that the animation is God-Tier!
Tikal isn't exclusively there for wolrd ending events shes a spirt powered by the master emerald or more or less "living" inside of it, so I like to think she visits knuckles and angel island once and a while to check on him and the chao
This short doesn't tell us a lot of anything new about Knuckles but it doesn't really need to. It's just a perfect representation of who his character is

I see this as a perfectly crafted promotional short. It gives you just the right information in just the right amount to make you desperately want more.
This is some of the best Sonic writing I have seen in a long while.
I like how the chao that Knux helps is a NiGHTS chao. A sort of subtle way to show they still care about that franchise, despite not having any new games for a long time.
I'm sure they could make a new game, but I don't know what goes on behind the scenes. Maybe there is one in the works and it's in development hell. Point is, they still care if they even bothered with this cameo.
Damn, this was great. I’m actually really hyped for frontiers now. I think this video alleviated a lot of my worries.
I think that water body on the far left of Angel Island is probably supposed to be Azure Lake, with the shore next to Sandopolis and Desert Palace being where Eggman built Launch Base. Technically Sky Sanctuary is Angel Island territory, even if it's not literally a part of the Island. I also think you can see a bit of the Hydro City aquafer pouring water into the Azure Lake, and maybe a bit underneath the Emerald Altar pouring water off the island.
I assume that Marble Garden and Carnival Night (or maybe what's left of it) is on the other side of the mountain Ice Cap is on, and Red Mountain and the entrance to Lava Reef/Hidden Palace being one of the other mountains in the range. So, we start near where the Emerald Altar is, make our way counterclockwise after escaping Hydro City, get launched up to and climb down Ice Cap, infiltrate Eggman's Launch Base on Aqua Lake, go through the Sandopolis/Desert Palace ruins, then enter Lava Reef/Red Mountain before being warped up to Sky Sanctuary.
It's so cool seeing canon depictions of locations like this, especially when the artist pays enough attention to the history of the games. Sonic Forces had a world map, but none of it lined up with the geography from the previous games, unless the entirety of Forces takes place on South Island.
Powerhouse animation studio did a hell of a job with this prologue. Wouldn't expect anything less from the studio behind Castlevania and other Netflix animated series.

Just so you know, that "little rock" in Adventure wasn't all of Angel Island. It was just the shrine. The whole mountain is Angel Island. The first time you visit the Mystic Ruins, one of the NPCs there say that the mountain wasn't there the day before. It's because the mountain is the fallen Angel Island. The CGI cutscenes support this. This means that Ice Cap, Red Mountain, and Lost World, as well are all part of Angel Island. In fact, Ice Cap is probably the same one as in Sonic 3.
This animation was so amazing to see, I remember being so mind blown by it. I still can't believe this is gonna be a lore based game, which is awesome!
That giant hole filled with water in the first part of the video is called "Azure Lake" one of the Multiplayer Versus stages

Man I'm also lovin how they're showing Knuckles' daily life, just everything about this short is so so cool! Just a quick note on Adventure 1, that tiny island is specifically the shrine. Red mountain and ice cap are also on Angel island. They don't show it very well ingame but the hole in the wall that falls open by the train station is actaully in the side of the fallen angel island, and the gust of wind in te tunnel just takes you up to the surface. It really wasn't clear in the game though, I only learned this very recently after all my years playing XD
I agree with every take around external media, and it being unnecessary or at least annoying to have, but you gotta admit, if it’s done as well as this and actually has a good amount of value on the story than it can stay

I kinda hope this is also the opening cutscenes or somewhere in the early game. Because literally everyone who plays this game NEEDS to see this.
I know this is probably not true, but a head canon I've had for awhile is that angle island was originally apart of the Starfall islands. That explains why there was a cyberspace portal their and Koko ruins. Then maybe after the ancients fought the end they resettled on angle island and by harnessing the power of the emerald they were able to get angle island away from the other Starfall islands. But that is just a theory.

In Adventure 1 there are Tails and Amy flashbacks of Sonic 2 and Sonic CD, a boy that mentions about Sonic having saved Angel Island and Little Planet, Sonic mentioning Knuckles being tricked again, refearing to Sonic 3 & Knuckles
In Adventure 2 it is mentioned that Tails saved Station Square from Dr. Eggman and got a Chaos Emerald as a reward for that
In Heroes Amy mentions how Casino Park reminds her of Casinopolis from SA1, Knuckles mentions how he has mushroom forests on his island like Frog Forest, he also mentions how the Egg Carrier is nothing compared to Final Fortress, Sonic also mentions how surprised he is to see Shadow again and both him and Tails questions if he remembers them, Knuckles also mentions how ghosts love him because of his previous encounters with them, Sandopolis, Pumpkin Hill, Aquatic Mine, Death Chamber, both Hyudoros, Boos and even King Boom Boo himself, even though he is a bit afraid of ghosts
In Shadow the Hedgehog there are a lot of Sonic Adventure 2 flashbacks with printscreens from the game itself, and even one about Shadow remembering his own death on the Space Colony ARK with images of the ending of SA2
In Sonic Colors DS Sonic, Tails, Silver and Blaze mentions about how Silver and Blaze are in perfect sync
In Sonic Generations Sonic mentions how they going back in places they've been in White Space isn't more weirder than "saving aliens in an intersellar amusement part or genies in magic books"
In Sonic Forces Sonic mentions that he hasn't seen Classic Sonic's been *Generations* that one is horrible, but it also counts

I’ve heard rumors that Frontiers was going to explore the origins of the Emeralds for months then. After Ian Flynn mentioned in an article or something that he knew who made the Emeralds but didn’t want to say.
Also, I think the mysterious ghost voice that talks to Sonic is Tikal. Just like SA1. Or perhaps an Ancient that once protected the Master Emerald.
Though it was stated that the voice belongs to a past character Sonic is familiar with in an interview.
Can’t wait to check out the story.

I really love how we're viewing Knuckles duty to protect the emeralds with his life in a different angle. We've been shown time and time again that this was simply something Knuckles have to do because he is an echidna. But now we know that Knuckles actually view his duty as a curse. He never wanted this. He was born and now he has to pay for consequences he never deserved. He doesn't want to be alone but because he view his duty as HIS curse he doesn't want to put it on others back too. And at the end when he screams, he screams out of frustrations because his duty always leaded him into dyar situations. And it just happened once again but here he would probably be stuck all alone forever, if it wasn't for Sonic coming to rescue him ofc.
So that's why there's a deeper meaning to his phrase "i dont need anyone else to get by" because he thinks that the curse is given to him and him only. Even tho he doesn't want to be alone, he thinks he has to. Thus the end of his phrase being "but sometimes..." showing once again that he doesn't want to be alone, and that he doesn't have to go through all of this alone cuz he just can't its impossible... he needs help from others.

i've been a sonic fan since rivals and not once did I question the origins of the master emerald
9:15 it would be inconsistent however it wasn't. We don't see it throughout the beginning of the game, however we know in fact that that's how they're going to look like when they're trapped
The strangest thing I've seen so far in this promotional material are these "thrones" involved with the portal gears. They could've looked like anything else but they specifically chose to make them look like thrones for giants. This combined with the "Titan" moniker for some of the larger foes in the game make me wonder what connection they might have, if at all. Between that and the portal gear's presence on Angel Island I'm kinda reminded of stories in D&d of Giants that made their homes in castles on clouds, and Dwarves, a race of characters (not unlike the Echidna) that are renowned for their strength and their feuds with Giants.
What if it's revealed that angel island (which would also mean part or all of the mystic ruins) used to belong to the ancients
I remember Sonic Team telling that Sonic Frontiers will be also focused on tellig the origins of the emeralds. Now get hyped :)

Everything i've seen about frontiers up to this point makes me think that sonic frontiers is actually a reboot of the series timeline wise just after sonic adventure 1, a kind of sonic adventure 1.5, the knuckles prologue makes it very clear at least that it's the adventure era knuckles, with elements making it obvious the events of adventure 1 occurred but with no references specifically to adventure 2 events
In the same way, sonic team confirmed that shadow would not be present in the game which reinforces the idea adventure 2 characters aren't really present
seems like sega wants to put the sonic lore in order once and for all, they hired flynn, they are looking for lore masters, they are centering more into the story and characters, lets see how things pan out
