    Thanks for the great Review Professor! we think the vault V 2 products are pretty special too! we spent a good long while testing and developing them! (which is why it took so long to drop them on the world!)

      @OckhamsChainsaw1337 Před 7 lety +6

      Probably my greatest problem with your premium-series of deckboxes, as well as your binders, is that they only come in this tacky dragon-skin surface. I'd be interested in some of your products, if only they had a sleeker, more professional look to them.

    • @LegionSupplies
      @LegionSupplies Před 7 lety +19

      Phil M.: Certainly tastes will differ. We hear fairly regularly that people love the look and feel of the "Dragon Hide". When I made my very first product with that particular vinyl, I expected to just make a set then move into something different. But the response was strong enough that I stuck with it. The treatment done to the vinyl to make it look that way turns out to also make it much tougher and helps it wear longer withoit seeing the edges and corners fray. When I introduced the first of it's kind dragon vault to the US market, about 5 years ago now, it was such a big hit we were producing them as fast as the factory could make them up through last fall and selling through each shipment within weeks of arriving at my warehouse.

    • @OckhamsChainsaw1337
      @OckhamsChainsaw1337 Před 7 lety +20

      First of all, I think it's really cool that you read comments like these and even take the time to reply, that's awesome!
      You are absolutely correct - tastes differ, and my comment was meant to be less of a critique and more of a suggestion that there might be a potential buyership out there who is interested in the quality of your products, while not being interested in their quite extravagant look (which might be the bee's knees to others, of course).
      I'm happy that business is well for you guys,
      Cheers

    That Vault V2 design is really something because it is using orthogonal, geometric angles to support itself staying together vs. just some strong latch. One could demonstrate this through calculating the torques (moments) or the sum of the forces with a FBD, but we don't really have to do that as we can do an eye test on it. First, the side compartments require applied force primarily in the horizontal, but have a condition of motion which requires some movement in the vertical. In addition, the side components require opposite directional force to one another, which is important for rotational conditions where otherwise we would observe coupled moments of inertial with variable mass-location. Not pretty when the angular momentum gets higher.
    The last part of it that's really great is that the top flap covers the vertical motion of each component, but does so by use of another horizontal angle. So, in other words, the flap comes down to apply an equal-opposite force to the components upward, but does this by use a horizontal directional force orthogonal to the component trays. This is, again, critical because if it were in the same direction to the component trays it would apply wonkier rotational dynamics to the object, and the Professor would likely observe the box opening up during his tests.
    One might think the front flap should come undone because it is simply coming flush with the box, but it doesn't because of orthogonality. The pressure of the applied forces are being contained in other axial directions to that latching-point, if you will, and because of that, it simply is not under the same stress as other areas. Really is a fantastic design for a box, and one of the best I've seen.

    I don't know the exact date, but it feels like a few months back Ultimate Guard turned a corner and all their stuff has just become the best of the best. They have the Sidewinder Deck box in 80/100, and I remember seeing a really early picture of the UG Boulder and I thought it was one of the best looking boxes out there, just a really striking design. But even going down to their normal run of the mill 80/100 deck boxes, they are just the best out there. They have the best magnets and they are tough, but they have a smaller footprint than the 'Mana Symbol' Ultra Pro's that I enjoyed for a while. Now the Arkhive is a fantastic way to organize things, and combined with the Boulder it is exactly what I am looking for to store my collection. Instead of having to build a small pyramid in my backpack with sidewinders and regular upright deck boxes, I can store everything in ten Boulders inside two Arkhives and it is much easier to store, travel with, and keep organized. Accessing what is important is much easier and having multiple colors that allow for quick organization only makes it that much better. The deck boxes looking so fantastic make it a pleasure to use as well.
    I am not surprised to hear that these are receiving an "A" from the Professor, nor am I surprised to find out that he also is a big fan. They really are great and deserve the praise and attention. Great video.

    Haha, I like how you updated your review on the Builders and Arkhive. I picked up a set after your first review of them because it's perfect for FNM and Pro Tour. I carry 2 decks, sideboards, and tokens in only 2 boulders (100+ plus size, and 60 card decks) 1 Boulder for for dice/tokens and 1 for sleeves, inner and outer PLUS that gives me a way to safely transport any cards I may pick up while out and about. I also picked up that Ultimate Guard case for the playmate with a dice tray. THANKS A BILLION! :D

    Thanks so much for your reviews and videos as a resource to check out over time. You get an A+ rating from me. As a father of a 5 year old boy excited about Pokémon, your videos on Pokémon and sets and now accessories as I buy non magic themed stuff like mats deck boxes 4 pocket binders etc for my son to play have been invaluable. I purchased a rayquaza vs keldeo deck as well as an intro learn to play sun and moon starter and he played two full games this weekend with proper rules and was super excited about it and asked me the next morning to play again.
    I really thought those boulder deck boxes were looking good and have become really impressed with the German company ultimate guard. Thanks again. Seeing you endorse the boulders gives me confidence that the color and ease of open and close my son will love will match my size and quality concerns. For the price they look to be something we will collect matching colours to Pokémon energy over time.
    The legion stuff impressed me, I bought my accessories between 2006-2011 they have really improved in general since then from mats to binders to deck boxes as someone who appreciates enjoying the games more though accessories of high quality I’m happy to see such great stuff is available to introduce my son to the card game hobby.

    I have been using the old Mirodin pre release box's for years for my draft sleeves / land, tokens and all my dice so when I went looking for a better option to hold my double sleeved constructed decks the 100 count boulder box's were far and above the best choice. I pick up more every time I see them in stock (no store within 1.5 hours drive has them sadly as our local game store which was still 45 minutes away by highway shut down to move on with their lives) they are awesome, the new ones still flake on the corners a bit but don't go much further than that and still look great to be honest. if you aren't trying to just be showy and fancy and have some gaudy deck box for the sake of it, and just trying to protect your cards with the best case, the boulder cases definitely are the best choice by a mile (they are pretty nice to look at as well to be fair)

I've had it for awhile, and my only complaint is the fixed divider. It would have been nice if they had a half circle cut on the top of the divider to allow easier access to cards stored in the smaller compartment. Still...one of the best $15.00 deck boxes I have ever owned. Small, doesnt take up tons of room on the table even when opened, and they look super nice.

    I bought myself an Ultimate Guard box last year and did not have great results. This original box's glue gave way only minutes after taking it out of the box, peeling like a banana. I contacted Ultimate Guard and they sent me a replacement. The trays in the replacement were warped, crushed, and the felt interior was all torn up. The problems continued with similar ungluing (pun unintended) continued with replacement 3 and 4. I was told be the head office in Germany all this was due to terrible quality control from their New York distributor. They ended up sending me two replacement boxes and a couple of zipfolios for my troubles. Great customer service, but I'm still a little but unsure about purchasing anything other than their binder, which are amazing.

    I love your deckbox review videos- they are genuine tests of quality and showcase important details players love- but my shops have an extremely limited selection...only thing I have been able to find and order so far is the UP satin cube 🧐
    Australia sucks

    These are arguably my favorite videos the Professor does. Also I can second his boulder review I preordered mine and was among the first in the US to have them and they are my favorite mode of transporting and storing my modern decks especially!

    @GatesOlive Před 6 lety

    on 11:32 you are holding the box by the sides, therefore the force your person is exerting over the sides of the box cancels the torque exerted by the weight of the decks, thus cancelling all rotational effects on the axis that could possibly open the box. The only "true" shake test is done by throwing the deckbox in the air as you did previoslu, since then the only forces acting on the system are the internal ones (such as friction and normals) and weight.

    I wonder if these manufacturers know just how much of their product you sell? I buy almost all of your "A"s. Most of the time I did not even know half of this stuff was out there. Also, do YOU know how many people I have heard say "I am using these new Ultra Pro Eclipse sleeves, I saw the Professor on youtube review them."? So happy you have my back when it comes to this kind of stuff.

    Love that you did an updated review on the boulder! I ordered some after seeing your last review and doing some research online. They will replace my previous UP Pro 100 EDH deck boxes. Huge aesthetic upgrade! And the ark hive will probably follow soon. So pleasing to look at. :D

    Very much appreciate virtually all your teaching and reviews.
    I am intrigued by the packaging process that leads to the statistics you report about commons, rates, mythic rates etc.
    How do they accomplish the assembly of the booster packs that are the root of all the statistics?
    While profit is always a goal for a business, they are also juggling other variables to determine what is in any given box.
    Have you commented on this process? It it a trade secret?
    Thanks for the wonderful phenomenon called Tolarian Community College.

    When you tested "the vault v2" deckbox you held it at the sides pushing them in, remember that if you push them in they cant be pushed agaist the magnet sealed end. Im thinking about buying one of those so i wonder if it does pop open if held another way. Thanks for all these informative and great videos. I watch them because i really like it when you smile and when you are happy, its the best:)) also i like the information, its great!

    I don't think prof gets enough credit for how he has single-handedly improved the quality of MTG accessories. I've spoken to more than one vendor at large events and they talk about improvements they've made to their product and mention "Tolarian" or "prof" by name.

    The only smallest nitpick of boulders; I keep my Commander in Ultrapro Mini Snaps, which fit snugly with my 100 double sleeved commander decks inside Monoliths and Satin Towers, but NOT the boulders! They are just a tiny bit too small for me.

    Legion makes good stuff. If I needed more deckboxes I'd likely buy a Vault V2. I've got a Satin Tower for my modern deck and the Dex Protector box that I can't remember the name of that holds both of my commander decks.
