  • Some nice pedals from Joyo: Ultimate Drive and Vintage Overdrive.
    Guitar is Ibanez JS100 equipped with Dimarzios, Tonezone in the bridge position, and Air Norton in the neck position. Running through Blackstar HT-5r, mic'ed with Samson Meteor.
    All of these pedals are under 100 (less than 50) bucks, with great sound. i apologize for my dirty room, and messy playing.

    Vintage Overdrive:
    Good for Blues and Mellow Rock
    Ultimate Drive:
    Good for Hard Rock and Soft Metal

    These pedals sounds brilliant, especially since they cost so little. they may be "cheap" to buy but sound natural which is what most people are looking for.
    The Vintage Overdrive is smooth and sweet sounding, and is better suited to blues or blues rock in my opinion.
    The Ultimate Drive is a heavy rock to metal sound with more gain on tap and great harmonic content.
    I think considering the price of the pedals, I'd say it's a "no brainer" and get both!!!

      How do you use it as boost? What settings? Can it boost a drive pedal?

    • @Mr.Goldbar
      @Mr.Goldbar Před 5 lety +1

      @@danielforto1016 the common way to boost with a drive pedal is level at 10 and gain at 0 to make the amp sound tighter and have more gain. Some pedals sound better when the tone knob is at noon but I prefer my Ultimate Drive with the tone knob set at 10 as well. Most people use Tube Screamer pedals for this purpose, but I much prefer my Ultimate Drive. I also use a Klon style pedal with lower level and higher gain to give the amp a nice smooth lead tone

    Has anyone noticed that many of the these YT demos are just a way of forcing you to listen to the posters play way too long for each setting. Dude! Play a power chord and let it decay, then a short riff then move on to the next setting. I could demo two overdrives in four minutes. I had to bail after one minute. Joyo pedals are inexpensive clones of popular pedals and for the price you can't go wrong.

    Great demo. I have both of these pedals. It's amazing how good they sound for the price that you pay. A Tube Screamer TS9 costs a lot more. They are great pedals for sure. But is the price difference the same as the sound difference? Well, that all depends on what you really want. If you need to see a Tube Screamer in your pedalboard the answer is yes. But none of your guitar pals is going to be able to tell the difference once you're splitting atoms with your band. haha. These two pedals from JOYO are great. Especially when your gig is in the combat zone of where most of the good live entertainment bars are located. These pedals cost less than a good pizza. Pick up one or both. Rock on!!

    • @obicross
      @obicross  Před 4 lety +1

      It depends i guess. But, fyi, i sold the ultimate drive and kept the green one. VO has specific sound people said, its mid boosted, and has a bit rolled off top end. In that sense it might not be versatile for some people. The UD has enough gain for mid gain drive, it can be used as a booster too. But in my case, the VO as a booster is classic, good for boosting a high gain amp, deflub a bassy or flubby amp, and cut harshness of a brittle amp. The UD in my experience a bit picky on amps. if the clean channel, the drive sound is not that pleasant, a bit flubby and dull (on a good amp like a Marshall stuff is great), and as a booster, i feel a tube screamer type is better and easier to dial. If you already got an amp with a drive sound you love, VO might be better for you. But if all you get is a clean amp/tone, then you can try UD for more rock stuff. (UD has way more gain, VO drive has clean sound mixed in)

    • @obicross
      @obicross  Před 9 lety

      Koki Zuniga as a booster, it's great! no problem there. But as a standalone drive or distortion in front the clean channel, it lacks a good low end chunk (when you palm mute, its dull/too round/too wooly). it maybe because of blackstar's cab, i haven't tried it with other cab. it's sounds pretty much like in the video. when i tried it in the store it was wayyy better (in front of fender type of amp).

      i have, though i haven't experimented much. My friend does that all the time. seems like the trick is to not set the delay too much (mix and repeat). see voodoo lab's video on van halen phaser+delay trick.

      i agree. if you can, connect it to the loop/ but not all amps at the gigs have effects loop, so you have to experiment both.

    Which one would you suggest as a booster for my amps dirty channel. I`m looking for those high gain modern tight tones.(metalcore & stuff)

    • @obicross
      @obicross  Před 9 lety

      most common choice would be the VOD, as it emulates the classic tube screamer. Assuming your amp has enough pre gain for metal, both can do a pretty decent job. although i'd say the UD has a lil bit more gain and retain lil bit more bass.

      well, my amp is an Orange Micro terror :) (bedroom setup) and the little thing sounds great but i would like a bit more gain . Was hoping to push it with a OD pedal but cand decide. Joyo ones, Boss sd-1, Ibanez TS7...

      for the price you really can't go wrong with these. i bought it for around 30 bucks (i think you can get less). if you never had an overdrive pedal before, i think this is a good starting point without spending too much. i love it's chorus too.

    • @Crunchifyable2
      @Crunchifyable2 Před 9 lety

      Give the joyo sweet baby a try for modern high gain metal. With the gain up all the way, the pedal gives the crunch channel of any amp a very modern midrange focused (tight and very present ) metal tone. It's probably not the intended use of the pedal, but of the ones I have, is the best metal pedal just because its very tight no matter the setting.

  • @manifestgtr

    own both...i also own an ocd and many tube screamers which these are based off...I consider them to be every bit as much pedal as either of those...if I asked for an ocd and a tubescreamer on my board and someone put these there, I wouldn't be bothered one bit...and you can own both for the price of a used ts9 hahaha

    Hi, sorry to bother. Have you tried any of these with a mic? I'm looking for a bit of distortion just to use every now and then, I sing in a death metal band. Thanks!

  • @emidom2004
    @emidom2004 Před 11 lety

    It's really tempting but I think the feedback is going to be unbearable. I think I'm going to try the D1 from tc helicon, I'll look for a fatter sound using those doubling effects on my growling and move away from distortions for a while because I haven't been able to avoid the feedback. If I come back to trying distortions, I'll try the ultimate since it's so cheap. Thanks for your help!

    Which one is good for boost to my amp dirty marshall?thanks..

    • @obicross
      @obicross  Před 3 lety

      depends what ur looking for. but for the longest times, people have been using tube screamer with marshall to boost the mids and take off any shrillness. so green one i say. but if ur looking for more balanced/flatter, more higher gain drive than a TS the ultimate drive is for you. the drive sound sounds lika a marshall too so u can use it as overdrive. as apparent in my video
