    While I would for the most part agree with making Aragorn a Human, I do think there is an argument to be made that he could be a Half-Elf due to his Numenorean heritage

      Agreed, Numenorians certainly have distinct Half-Elf characteristics.

    • @anderslennartsson1828
      @anderslennartsson1828 Před 2 měsíci +1

      Half elves in LOTR choose if they want to be Elf or Man so they don't really have Half Elves like in BG3. Numenorians are men that is taller than average and more long lived, so it should be a human with the big body setting. In the books he's huge.

    • @GeekEKittenGaming
      @GeekEKittenGaming  Před 2 měsíci +1

      @anderslennartsson1828 yeah that is one area I overlooked because I was basing appearance on the actors in the films not how they were described in the books. But if you want to go by the books absolutely use the big body setting for aragorn and boromir.

      @@GeekEKittenGaming No im totally on board with going for Viggo Mortensen! It was just a comment about using Half-Elf instead of human and him being Numenorian. Thanks for a great build

    I'm not sure if you knew but the ranger knight favoured enemy option gives you heavy armour proficiency if you wanted to not take a fighter dip to start. which would mean you could get alert at lvl 4.

    • @GeekEKittenGaming
      @GeekEKittenGaming  Před 4 měsíci +4

      Yes, I did know about it but I wanted favored enemy type keeper of the veil for the build. I felt that it would be wasteful to choose ranger knight when you can just start in fighter (if you're going to do fighter anyways).

    A sword i think could also work for Aragorn is Phalar Aluve. Its an elvish blade so it fits Narsil in that regard and it lets Aragorn let out a rallying cry to his allies or inspire fear into the orcs through the warcry of Elendil

      @GeekEKittenGaming Any time :)
      I enjoy thinking of these kinds of builds as well, a lot of fun to do. Sometimes gotta stretch it a little to make the characters unique from each other, but still fun
      If you ever do one for Merry, I'd recommend Bard/Thief/Paladin or just Bard/Paladin.
      And Gimli absolutely a berserker. Just think instead of rage it's his competitive spirit

    • @GeekEKittenGaming
      @GeekEKittenGaming  Před 3 měsíci

      @voicingdragoon7 Yeah you definitely have to color outside the lines to make characters from other worlds fit into BG3, and sometimes it gets really challenging, but still fun. Interesting thoughts on Merry. The issue I see with that is the magic you'll get stuck with that isn't relevant to his character. You can't really keep things strictly functional with the spells paladins get.

    • @voicingdragoon7
      @voicingdragoon7 Před 3 měsíci +1

      @GeekEKittenGaming to correct myself, I meant Pippin, not Merry. Merry Is more Bard/Fighter.
      I was mostly thinking paladin cause he does swear an oath to Denethor, the throne of Gondor and later on Aragorn himself. Plus his father was named Paladin so that'd be funny. But I see your issue too.

    • @GeekEKittenGaming
      @GeekEKittenGaming  Před 3 měsíci +1

      @voicingdragoon7 lol that makes more sense. Yeah that's a tough one! I see your point because of his position as steward. I'm gonna have to think on that. Maybe just like 1 or 2 levels in it to represent that time in his life and how it changed him?

    you can go 5 into ranger for the first few levels so u get extra attack at level 5 since you only get good heavy armor sets in act 3 and aragon is really wearing light armor until the later books/movies. you can always respec at withers when you get to act 3!

  • @Apillis124
    @Apillis124 Před 4 měsíci +2

    I think it's myopic for anyone to simply think because X character is called X thing that they can only ever be that X thing. For example, Legolas with his speed and agility and the fact when do you see this guy get hit by anything doing wide AoE swings? So obviously he has some form evasion, and considering his arrow shots are way more devastating than they ever have a right to be (sneak attack) he's obviously some form of Rogue 7/Ranger 5 build, though I can see an easy argument for Fighter especially as Champion because that's precisely what he is among Mirkwood elves. But that's just an example, though for Aragon honestly--I'd personally just done 2 levels of Fighter for action surge and then everything else into Oath of the Ancients (or Vengeance) Paladin, because lorewise it's a bit closer to what the Dunedain themselves were in spite of those like Aragon being labelled a "ranger", there's what people call you and then there's what you truly are. Also, wouldn't have gotten too hung up on getting feats, honestly a lot of what feats provide can be made up for via gear and tactics in BG3, and in the case of the later that tracks more for how things are in LotR any way--prioritizing their ASIs makes them more capable in their class (and character in LotR, I mean, come on---our man Aragon has much higher WIS and CHA than just 12 and 10 respectively) oft more than feats in BG3 will provide (this holds true in DnD 5e TTRPG as well, most don't worry about feats typically unless they rolled well for stats, even when putting optimization aside). Just some advice/examples for future character builds.

    • @GeekEKittenGaming
      @GeekEKittenGaming  Před 4 měsíci

      To clarify, the ranger/fighter multiclass build was not due to him being called a ranger. It was selected due to believing that would be the best choices. Thank you for your comment.

    • @munchman1324nj
      @munchman1324nj Před 3 měsíci +2

      Aragorn spends a good amount of time being an actual ranger, though. The class is literally based on him. He protects and guards the shire, hunting down enemies and keeping them away. He also spends a solid portion of time tracking and hunting the uruk-hai. He learns their number how far away they are, reconstructs a whole battle in his head hours after its over, and discovers the Hobbits made it out. That skill is literally what the whole class is based around. You could make an argument for a dip in Paladin for sure, but to argue that aragorn is a ranger, only in name, is an insanity.

    • @GeekEKittenGaming
      @GeekEKittenGaming  Před 3 měsíci +2

      @munchman1324nj I agree with your points about ranger (well said) but the issue with dipping into paladin is that the spells don't match. Aragorn is only a paladin in the sense that he strives for justice and oaths being fulfilled. If the context wasn't BG3, I could see Paladin working. But within BG3 you're automatically getting access to spells that don't fit. Fighter is a more appropriate choice. Plus you get to use the battle master subclass which fits him very well.

    • @munchman1324nj
      @munchman1324nj Před 3 měsíci

      @GeekEKittenGaming completely agree. You'd have to pick a lot of the class features of Paladin out to make them fit at which point it wouldn't be paladin anymore . Aura's make sense (kinda), oath makes sense, but so does oathbreaker lol, smite doesn't fit, and neither does most of the spell list.

    • @GeekEKittenGaming
      @GeekEKittenGaming  Před 3 měsíci

      @@munchman1324nj Exactly! You gotta make some concessions when you're working within the confines of the game, and we try to make the ones that we think (emphasis on think lol) make the most sense and are the most respectful to the character and lore.

  • @madhatter631

    Aragorn is THE switch hitter - being skilled with the sword and the bow. Having two fighting styles feels pretty appropriate.

  • @adamb8317
    @adamb8317 Před 22 dny

    Aragorn from the books is almost a Ranger/Paladin, as he has incredible healing magic, power against despair and evil, and the ability to bolster his allies with his voice. Not to mention his Ranger abilities.

    • @GeekEKittenGaming
      @GeekEKittenGaming  Před 22 dny

      I could see that class combo for book Aragorn - although I think I would either still add in Fighter OR go stronger in Ranger because if you get too deep into Paladin you get into magic that isn't really applicable.

    So I just finished watching all your LOTR builds so far. VERY well researched and though out. But I am curious how they actually play in the game. I guess it's really down to the player. And like you said most other build vids try to wring out the most from their class choices. I am playing one of my characters as more of a story build. A Bardlock. Young female Tiefling who sold her soul to a devil to gain musical fame. Fun but not very effective yet. Keep these coming. You just got another sub.

      Thanks very much - I'm glad you enjoyed them! There are many more coming. To your point, they definitely aren't the most effective since they focus on being character relevant. However, the Gandalf build in particular has been tested by a few people and has been reported to be quite good!

    • @GeekEKittenGaming
      @GeekEKittenGaming  Před 3 měsíci +1

      @tbowne05 I have a bg3 run that I finished so I keep loading a save file from it, have my husband make a new character (or use a hireling if he's unavailable) and then level them up. For the basics and appearance, each time I am going into a new game and then canceling out once I'm done. Doing the builds during recording doesn't take too long, but doing them over and over again for research takes awhile.

    Hello i have a question do you have any suggestion for gloves boots and maybe like crown for helmet?

    • @GeekEKittenGaming
      @GeekEKittenGaming  Před 3 měsíci

      For gloves: Early on I would recommend the gloves of missile snaring - you can get them in the Druid Grove from Aron. Solid starter gloves and on theme with Aragorn's ability to deflect attacks. Later in the game (much later), I would recommend Gauntlets of Hill Giant Strength, which boost your STR stat to 23. You won't get them until you reach the House of Hope in Act 3.
      For boots: Early on I would recommend either the Linebreaker Boots (found in the Worg Pens at the Shattered Sanctum in Act 1) or Boots of Speed (from Thulla in Myconid Colony in Act 1) - they both fit for Aragorn's build. Later on, I would recommend the Bonespike Boots (Rivington in Act 3) - very appropriate for the build.
      For helmets: Unfortunately the only crown-like (circlet) helmets I found that kind of go with the build are the Arcane Circlet (Uncommon) found in Moonrise Towers Prison in Act 2 and the Scabby Pugilist Circlet (rare) found in Act 3 Rivington. You're better off using helmets. The best fit would be the Helm of Balduran (legendary), but you won't get that until Act 3 in the Dragon's Sanctum.
