    The only time rotating tires will help is if you have a 4wd / AWD vehicle, because you have to change all 4 tires at the same time on those cars. But for FWD vehicles, you can just change out the front and back tires in pairs when they wear out

    As a mechanic, I must say. We don't rotate tires because of how well the tires are made, we rotate them to maximize tire life. Tires will wear more on what we call "drive wheels". This is to say, the tires that receive direct power from the transmission. That way, you can keep your tires for a longer period of time.

    • @rfarevalo
      @rfarevalo Před rokem +36

      So once you rotate the tires now you "rear wheels" are on the front "drive wheels" and will start to wear rubber more. So now you are wearing those wheels at a faster rate. There is no benefit. • @Dreson45
    @Dreson45 Před 11 měsíci +15

    Tires are one of the most important parts on your vehicle and their condition should be taken seriously. Front tires typically wear much faster than rear tires due to multiple factors. These include alignment angles, drivetrain, weight distribution, cornering, braking, and driving habits to name a few. Front tires will also wear unevenly compared to the rear tires even when alignment and tire pressures are set to specifications. This is due to alignment angles inherent to cars that are necessary for stability and to counteract road crowning which is common on almost all roads. Due to these facts, it is best to maintain even tire wear on all four tires for the life of the tires. Worn tires can cause driveability and handling issues without even mentioning safety. Most drivers won’t notice these effects on dry roads but you have to account also, for low traction conditions. That’s the reason treads exist. Another factor not mentioned is tire age which is a serious safety concern. If your front tires wear out four times faster than the rear, for example, how old then are the rear tires on your fourth set of fronts? There have been many cases of fatal crashes due to old tires. I realize some vehicles have staggered tire sizes and also directional tires so rotations aren’t even an option. In those cases, the tires should be replaced in pairs or sets depending on wear, condition, and tread difference. I can’t agree with Scotty on this one. If you can save money, certainly do that, but you shouldn’t do that at the expense of safety, for yourself, your family, and everyone else on or near the road.

    • @MarzNet256

    The front mounted tires often tend to wear quicker than the rear due to car weight transfer when stopping as well as due to road friction when steering . This is especially true for front wheel drive vehicles which also must act as the drive wheels adding to tire stress and wear.
    While this process is relatively slow, it becomes more pronounced the more stress and milage are put on the tires ex. Constant highway driving, and stop and go traffic.
    If your vehicle does not exceed five thousand(5,000) miles every year, you could probably get away with rotating them once a year however if approaching 7,000 to 10,000 miles or more per year, you should consider rotation at least every other oil change to maximize tire tread especially in harsh driving conditions.

Drivers that accelerate gently, experience less tread wear and longer tire life. There are some AWD vehicles though that wear tires quickly regardless of how the driver accelerates. For example, Porsche Cayenne/VW Touareg have an AWD system that employs semi-lockup to all wheels most all the time. These vehicles always maintain very high road traction to promote superior handling. Their tires wear out quickly as a result.

      I never pay at Costco.
      And they balance the tires for free at the same time.
      My vehicles often roll down the hiway more smoothly after a free tire rotation.
      Now we know that Scotty's shop charged for tire rotations.
