    On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
    If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 or even dogfighting in Battlefield 2042, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8.

Maybe, like an F-15E with AIM 174s vs SU 57 with R-37s? That could be a neat matchup. I would say it would be a good idea for the 'Outmatched' series, but the F-15's radar is kind of a beast...

    With the legs on the AIM-174, the F-18E/F radar is underanging it. It is meant to be used with a datalink aircraft (specifically the F-35) to provide lock and the hornet to launch on that lock, not it's own.

I suspect it can only be mounted to certain stations on most of their aircraft. Much larger than the AIM-120D, which is a little shorter but much skinnier (7" diameter) and lighter (354 lbs). Of course, the AIM-174B at about 21" long, 13.5" wide and 1900 lbs is a behemoth.

    Whoever does the model for SM-6 needs to keep in mind that the 3.5 mach listed speed is probably assuming that the missile is being fired from sea level and climbing to altitude (up to 110,000ft) to engage the target. If you even fired it horizontally, it’s probably going to go faster, never mind from an aircraft that may already be moving near mach or above, and at considerable altitude.

    You mention being concerned about the wings ripping off due to the mass of the AIM-174B, that would mostly apply to missiles attached to the fuselage, not the wings. Missiles on the wings do not contribute to wing root load if pulling positive G's.

    The peak speed of the SM-6 is listed as greater than Mach 3.5+, but if you use a rocket calculator, if the peak velocity is only Mach 3.5 at 135,000 feet on a 45° angle launch, then the maximum range is about 765,000 feet or roughly 144 miles. We know that the missile has mad an interception at 240 miles+ on an aerial target from a surface launch, so that requires that the peak velocity at 135,000 feet to be Mach 5.7. I think that it is important to remember the amount of copium from the Russian side.

    • @grenmoyo3968
      @grenmoyo3968 Před měsícem

      If we want to talk real copium, In reality it's also important that to remember that russian pilots have far less yearly flight time than American pilots. So the US has more time training than Russians. So while some airframes from Russia are pretty capable, the pilots flying them might not be as capable. So the difficulty mentioned about fighting off the tracking of the SM-6 might be quite a bit harder than a lot could manage.

      AIM-260 is for 200-300km range and will be carried by both F-35 and F-22. AIM-174B is for 400+km range similar to Raytheon's LREW and will be carried by 4th gen platforms. However since AIM-174B can also be used to strike maritime targets it may stay with the USN.

As an Air Force guy we learned about them but I had never seen one in person. We quickly took down their AIM7's and gave them a 120 varient that had not been disclosed at the time.

    Two long range, 2 medium range, and 2 dogfight missiles.

    Depending on the modle used..(?) the SM-6 could have a very very powerful radar. It's the same 'brain' as an AMRAM but has four times the power output as it has a much larger array to transmit. So it will detect and lock on at much greater range.
