    I am a First-year at Seattle university, living in a very similar room in Xavier Hall. All dorms have the exact same furniture, beside the sinks/vanities. Here’s what I’ve heard about each residence hall from smallest to biggest.
    Xavier: Holds up to 200 students.
    This first-year-only dorm features pros such as perks such as a large basement kitchen, a giant game room, accessible stairs great for exercise, a good massive elevator, and laundry machines on every floor. We also get more square shaped rooms with drywall side walls. Think the Campion shelves are big? Wait until you see Xavier’s. They’ve got an extra shelf, and more height and depth. They’re also on the exterior wall, but unlike Bellarmine they appear just as wide due to room dimensions. People here are like you say in Campion: mix of somewhat quiet, but very friendly and social. Windows also open the farthest. Only real con is that it’s a bit far from student center and stadiums. It was my first choice.
    Bellarmine: holds over 400 students.
    completely different list of pros and cons. Pros: this residence hall is also open to sophomore students like Campion. Its location is central, so everything’s close and it’s very close to the student center. They have a large patio. They have the mail room, and the copy room is close by. Apparently, they party hard, so if you are that type, do it. Cons: laundry in basement, no-frills experience which lacks a game room, probably got cement walls, tiny shelves, (identical to Xavier shelves but only like 6 inches wide) they seem have a strong bias toward their residence hall, but that might just be their party vibe tricking me. A few people this first quarter have mentioned a supposed evacuation due to a false positive fire condition, or that they’d walked past and heard the alarms in the Bellarmine building. Apparently happened once in Xavier last year though when someone tried to “cook steak.” But that’s only once, and we’ve burnt a LOT of popcorn!!
    Campion: holds about 600 students.
    Giant eyesore of a tower that looms above the campus, in an awkward location, but that’s not to say it’s all bad. I mean, they have the cave convenience store and the stadiums super close by. Kitchens on every floor. At least they have a game room unlike Bellarmine, (but Xavier’s is actually larger than Campion’s.) Seems like the students are more chill than they’re rumored to be. Cons: Cement walls in dorms (not cinderblock at least) and new to this year, “safe windows,” that only open 3 inches and have 0 airflow. View Can be the best, but it can also be the worst depending on which side you are living in, so no points added for the view, because you could be staring at a building depending on what room you get assigned to, and unlike what’s being said here we don’t get to choose. Elevators break all the time, and are of inadequate quantity for the size of the building. People are late for class waiting for the elevators when one goes out of service, and this sometimes looks bad to professors. Stairs are for emergency exit only. You have to walk through the maze that is the Murphy apartments, through a sky bridge, and down a flight of stairs in the student center to get to class. Only other alternative is to cross a dangerous street. Cement walls, though to be fair that’s probably nice if you have loud neighbors.
    THINGS THAT APPLY TO ALL RESIDENCE HALLS: apparently a lot of strange things can trip the smoke detectors in the rooms. (Steam of any kind, and somehow a hair dryer in one Xavier unit.) This doesn’t alert the entire building, but it does notify the front desk, and the system’s intelligent enough that they’ll know it was you. If that happens in the kitchens or other shared spaces, multiple floors (or the entire building in Xavier due to its small size) will have to leave.

      I lived in Campion for 2 years, and even at that time Bellarmine was the dorm to be at. Seeing your video I can say that the only difference is the wardrobe...ours back then was just shelves that was open...Freshman year I had a roommate, but sophomore year I was able to request my own room (1996-2000). Was there last year visiting the campus and it's such a beautiful small campus...I was there when they built the Chapel. Thanks for sharing!

    Hi!! I got accepted in to Seattle u and am really considering going but I’m worried that there is not a lot of parties and fun things to do with people on the weekend... so what have you seen in your experience, is there like parties and how would I find my “people” and a good group of friends? Your video was so helpful thank you!!!!

    • @blckblcks4179
      @blckblcks4179  Před 4 lety +7

      Hi Annie! I'm gonna be honest, if you're looking for a party school, SU is not that haha. We have some parties from time to time, but most of the time we travel over to UW to go to big parties. There's definitely fun things to do on the weekend though. (I think our location is better than UW tbh). SU is literally in the heart of downtown so there's plenty of things to do in the city, and if you need to travel to an event, new restaurant, etc., the train stations and buses are right nearby. I think finding friends or "your group" is pretty easy. During the first few weeks of school, there's a lot of events for incoming freshman and I met most of my friends then or in class. You can always make friends with people in your dorm too. If you're looking to make lots of friends, I recommend living in Bellarmine! It's super social and everyone is really close. It's just about putting yourself out there and talking to people. Going to parties is a good way to meet people too though :). A lot of people make friends from UW in that way. Hope that helped!

    • @Joshua88877
      @Joshua88877 Před 4 lety +5

      There’s no party better than parties with your close friends. Make Seattle U fun. Anything can be fun if you make it fun.

    • @TyTyzu1
      @TyTyzu1 Před 4 lety +4

      annie stevens I’d thought I would chime in. Most people that go to parties head up to the UW frat houses or house parties. Most people have little kickbacks inside their dorms/apartments. I’ve been to a few inside Chardin and Murphys. My friends and I usually just go to ShareTea or walk around Cap Hill/Downtown.
      I found my friends by reaching out to people in my classes and people within my major. You’ll eventually find people that you’ll see in everyone of your classes, these are the people I made friends with 😂
      Hope this helps!

    How did you make sure not to get stuck in a triple (three person dorm)? I head that SU commonly over enrolls and has to put freshman in triplets. Is Campion better than Bellarmine because of the view? What are the other ways it sets itself apart from the more convenient Bellarmine hall. What UCore classes would you recommend? I hear some have professors that are just as uninterested in the UCore subject as the students. Thank you for this review!! I’ve really wanted more on SU and you have provided.

    • @blckblcks4179
      @blckblcks4179  Před 4 lety +1

      Hey! So my experience with dorm room applications was actually pretty simple. You wouldn't be put in a triple room unless you applied for one or noted that you'd be okay living in a triple. It's very rare to be put in a triple when you didn't want to be, only a few people live in triple rooms. I prefer Campion as it has the Cave (which is a convenience store with snacks, groceries, and lunch items) in the basement, it has a better view if you're able to get a room on the city side, it's closer to bus routes, and it's sort of a blend of quiet and social. Bellarmine is good too, but I would say the view isn't that great on either sides, it's way more social and loud (if that's your thing), and it obviously doesn't have the Cave. I can answer the UCOR question or other questions in more detail if you dm me on Instagram! @radicalrileyy

      Don’t overlook Xavier Global House for first years. While it is smaller and lacks the views of Campion, everything else about it seems much better. Rooms are more square shaped, so they feel roomier and more customizable, and I’ve seen many different furniture layouts. Only one elevator, but it’s the most reliable one on campus. (Apparently the campion ones suck, and the stairs are locked.) also, we have sliding windows that open about 7 inches, while Bell and Camp have strange windows that hardly open at all, with the new-this-year “suicide proof” Camp windows lacking any airflow whatsoever. I also heard from a Xav RA who lived in either Bell or Camp at one point, that due to it’s size, you get to know people much better in Xav, while residents of Bell/Camp are usually both louder, and less friendly. Also, I keep hearing about false positives for smoke/fire in Bell, usually when everybody’s asleep, and you get fined if you don’t leave. Never happened once in Xav, and we’ve burnt a lot of popcorn here. One plus of Bell over the others, the hallways and bathrooms are apparently renovated, but the rooms look the same still.
      As for academics, try to steer clear of classes Bannan 401, 407, and 501 if there’s a choice. They’re still in the old mid-century lecture hall style configuration, and are never even half full.

    Hey!! I saw your response to another girl about going to UW parties! I was just wondering how hard are UW frats to get into?? I know I’m general for guys it’s harder but what abt for girls?

    • @blckblcks4179
      @blckblcks4179  Před 4 lety

      Hey! I don't really have like a 100% answer on this, but sometimes it's hard and other times it can be easy. Most of time you have to know someone to get in, that's just like the general rule. On special occasions (like holidays and big parties) it's nearly impossible to get in unless you know someone in the frat or sorority, but regular parties you can get in sometimes if they're willing. Smaller house parties are a lot easier to get into.

      Hi Felicia! I'm an English and Film Studies major! I think there are about 5,000 undergraduate students here! I would say some professors can be amazing and others not so great, but that's pretty general for every school. The great thing about SeattleU is small class sizes so your professors know your name, who you are, and are always open to help you out! Classes are pretty diverse, there's a lot of classes to choose from when it comes to prerequisites so you'll find something you like for sure! Once you get into your major classes it's all pretty dependent on what you're studying, but admin will always make sure you're in a class you want to be in! Let me know if you have any more questions, I'd love to answer them! :)

      @@felicia1759 Aww, congratulations!! I definitely disagree, I feel like I've made a lot of friends in my first year just from class and meeting people at events! I'd say as a freshman it's generally pretty easy to meet people because everyone wants to make friends haha :) Everyone I meet is pretty nice and I haven't really met anyone who I don't get along with. It's all about putting yourself out there and finding people you connect with! I have a few friends in the nursing program and from what I know, everyone is super close and they're all friends with each other!

    So, I'm looking at schools to apply to, and Seattle U interests me for Film Studies... I read some of the comments and saw that's your major.. What is it like? Do they have like hands-on (project) classes? Also another question.. Do you know if you can take your car? Does the school have parking for students, and does it cost money?

    • @blckblcks4179
      @blckblcks4179  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi there! It really depends on what you're looking for. Obviously, our film program isn't as intensive as actual film schools, but it's pretty nice. We have equipment that you can rent out as needed (mics, cameras, lights, etc.), courses on said equipment, a screening room, lighting room with screens, recording studio for sound mixing, and an editing lab to name a few things :) I haven't taken any major classes yet so I can't speak a lot on the experience of classes, but we have a lot of different kinds of classes. We have classes on specific genres, film in different countries, directors, topics in film, general stuff like writing, film 101 classes, history, and theory. To clarify, it is a Film STUDIES program, so the major is mostly focused on studying and analyzing filmmaking rather than production. Some classes include production and hands-on filmmaking, while others might be more analysis based.
      Freshman aren't allowed to bring cars for their first year. Parking is expensive, the permits cost $300-400 per QUARTER, so I recommend just not bringing a car. (Besides, parking and traffic in the city sucks lol). Public transportation in the city can get you almost anywhere and buses are right near campus.

    • @blckblcks4179

      Forgot to talk about Film Club though! The Film Club at SU is so amazing. They put on great events like film festivals, guest speakers, small classes, and they're always pitching projects so you'll always be working on something! Everyone is really close in there and really helpful and it's a great addition to the film department! :)
