ABOUT THIS VIDEO: Eucalyptus plant care - Eucalyptus Gunnii Azura
This is an easy tutorial on the Eucalyptus plant care, specifically on the Eucalyptus Gunnii Azura. If you are asking yourself how to care for Eucalyptus Gunnii Azura, this video is for you! The Eucalyptus plant is a very beautiful plant and easy to care for if you know the rules. There are many species of Eucalyptus but the most popular one for indoors is the Eucalyptus Gunnii. This is because the Eucalyptus tree can grow super quickly and super big; the Eucalyptus Gunnii tends to grow slower in a pot. Eucalyptus plant care includes lots of sunlight, moderate watering and good potting drainage. It is important to note that though this video is on Eucalyptus plant care , it is specifically focused on Eucalyptus indoor plant care , or Eucalyptus indoor care. The Eucalyptus is also commonly known as Eucalypts or Eucalypts plant ; consequently this video is also helpful for people looking for tutorials on the Eucalypts or the Eucalypts plant. I hope this video on the Eucalyptus gunnii care (more specifically on the Eucalyptus Gunnii Azura care) helps you maintain your Eucalyptus gunnii very healthy and happy!
I don’t know how I stumbled on this video, but you are so adorable!! 💕

Nice to see more lovers of Eucalyptus plants here :) And can relate to the questions as not much is known about it. One big note for all, don't give up on a dying or a dead Eucalyptus! It's able to revive from it's stem even after few years. I live in the Netherlands and I've had one since 2015 in a pot outside and it still survives even after it died on me first. It was 8 foot tall when I bought from a local gardening centre for around 20$ at the end of the summer (I thought it was a steal!) but it def. took a beating and died on me after the first year because I didn't know I should cover it up or bring it inside in the winter. I wasn't so 'planty' back then compared to as I have become now ;-) It said winterhardy on the pot LOL...but more care is needed than just thinking okay that's that and just water it haha. But the amazing thing is, as it totally died on me, I kind of left it neglected with the dead stems and branches left on it in that pot for a few years in the corner of my garden as I was rebuilding my whole garden patio and busy with other new plants (bamboo and ornamental grasses! gotta love 'em).
Didn't want to throw it away, I always wait very long with doing that kind of thing because I know there always pops up some kind of creative idea or second chance with something like that haha. Summer (2018) it suddenly started to pop up with a tiny new branch from the side of the thick dead stem and all of a sudden I saw it growing! (God, did you listen? ;)) It must have had enough to survive of some rainy periods and then dry out completely for maybe even months (Australia can be like that too right!). Last year I started reading on the internet and found out you should cut the whole old stem away down to about 30 cm above the potting soil. It will react to that with a growing spurt! And oh yes it did. Now one year later it's already 4 feet tall and further growing a new stem from that little side stem it started with! It's creating branches in different directions and all, still a bit thin but that's normal in a pot. Never repotted it nor gave any fertilizer! in all those years.....But will do that in a few days now with all knowledge I have now and see how big it can go. And don't forget to make wheels or some kind of carrier under that pot because it still needs to be moved inside in winter ;) Tie it gently to the old stem or a bamboo stick to support it and fascinatingly after it's dry after a while and you water it again, the next day you will see a small growth taking place again. It's a resilient little guy! Enjoy your Eucalyptus :)))
Your comment gave me hope, my tree dried up, I am not sure why. I let it dry out before watering. I am growing it indoors as it snows. I won't give up.
Wow, I got one a little bit smaller than the one in the video, some leaves felt drier than the others but I wasn't sure what the normal texture is since it is my first eucalyptus... Well now all the leaves are super dry/crispy texture and the smell is not right, I have no idea what to do :(
@@haydeemartinez4900 mine is like this too and I can't find good info on it. The lady at the plant place told me lots of water every day especially since it is in a terracotta pot. And now it doesn't look as healthy as when I got it.
@@michelehogen2640 Same but this video says let it dry out. I am confused and I would hate to kill another beautiful eucalyptus :(
Help! My lovely eucalyptus simply dried out..I bet it was my fault, not to water enough, but now ,it’s completely dry😞.Should I still keep it though or just cut all the dry branches . I should mansion it’s kept at home in a pot , and the tree it self it’s rather small , 2 ft.Please advise anyone...
I just got my first eucalyptus plants & this video was very helpful! Thanks for for great tips!

Hello dear friends! The Eucalyptus can be difficult indoors, as they are very particular about what they like... I actually looked up more information and found this Eucalyptus farm.. they are really amazing, super helpful and knowledgeable about the Eucalyptus! You can find their twitter account here: twitter.com/hardyeucalyptus
Hope this is helpful ! Lots of love and positive energy to all of you my planty people :)
Very helpfull
Awww I dont have Twitter
Thank you for these great tips! ♥ I grow Eucalyptus in the garden in a big pot, from seeds. This year was the first year :) I did not know how cold hardy they are. I knew that not much but did not know the exact temperature. One night, I walked through the garden, and it was -1 C. Suddenly, I have my Eucalyptus grab my legs and not let go :) So I pick her up and bring her downstairs to my basement plant room. She is sitting there now, looking so happy, with pretty little flowers at the tips of her branches :)
I just found this channel today. Thank you. I have my first baby blue eucalyptus. I've had it for 2 months and I'm having trouble. My leaves have brown spots. The soil was wet. Thank you so much. I see that I needed to change the location and watering habits. Now I. I'm hopeful that I can take care of this beautiful plant.
Loving the details you’re adding on to the videos. 😄👍🏼
Thank you Karen! I'm so happy that you like the additions :))
Love this plant! I had a few branches in my vase for months. It was lovely even when it was dried at the end...
Yes I agree! It's a beautiful plant whatever state she is ♥️ sending a big hug to you my friend 🤗

Thank you for all your tips, Lucía. 😘 I'm good advanced gardener with everflowering "English garden", but Eucalypthus is something very new for me and I have to admit I'm not sure how to treat it. Your lovely tips and advices are very helpful for me.😘😊 Have a nice day. Warmest regards and best wishes from the Czech republic.😘 Lenka

I am having quite a bit of trouble with my eucalyptus plant and there really isn’t much info out there about it’s indoor care. I was so happy to see that yours is doing so well and it gave me hope that mine could too! I like forward to the next video with more information about them!
Hiii! Thank you for your comment 🥰 unfortunately we lost our Eucalyptus... We went to Canada and in the winter the air is very dry in Berlin, especially indoors ... So we lost her 😔 How is yours doing now? I know they can be difficult indoors as they are very particular about what they like.. Humidity is one thing they are particular about, as well as sunlight and temperatures. I found a Eucalyptus farm, they plant all types outdoors, and are super helpful!

Hi Lucia, I’ve watched your videos lots of times as I’m learning to look after my eucalyptus. I’ve noticed the bottom leaves have a lot of white powder on and I just wanted to make sure that it is healthy. I think my plant is either a small gunnii or a baby blue ❤️
Hi! This can be natural for sure. Do you have Instagram ? Maybe you can send a picture there just to confirm 😊
Very good ❤
Thank you! 💓🌱
You are very welcome ♥️🌿
Hi. Thanks for the very clear video. If I plant indoor with a very big planter, how should i water it? I just ordered a few feet tall trees delivered in April . So excited!
Please make a video on its propogation
Thanks so much for your videos! I have fresh cut eucalyptus. How can I root them to put in my pot? Thank you!
such a sweet lady Lucia, keep it up!
Olá, eu tenho a sorte de morar em um país em que praticamente o ano inteiro o sol brilha! Mesmo no inverno! Meu eucalipto está plantada no solo, e está linda! A manutenção é somente com podas para mante-las baixas. Ciao
Any good videos or tutorials you can recommend for pruning? I got mine a year ago and it close to two months ago some mayor branches started to get super dry but close to a month ago new ones are starting to appear on the main steam. Now I don’t know if I should cut them or when (Here in the tropical we only have 2 seasons: dry/wet)
Thank God I found you, so I know how to treat my eucaliptus right.. by the way, if you can help me.. I bought it about a 1 month ago, I put it in a big pot and let it be, "she" stayed outside and receive some rainning water.. she looks a lil' dry.. should I put it inside and do something with the soil? Thanks in advance. 🙏
Thanks for thus terrific video. Is there a soil you can recommend? I am trying to find the right one to order. Thank you!!
Thank you for this. Mine is suddenly getting a little crispy ( the leaves ) and I’m not entirely sure why.
Thank you this is so helpful!! Just bought a eucalyptus and after about 2 weeks, the leaves started to shrivel, get crunchy and die. Whats happening?
Hi! I'm sorry to hear that 😞 Hm.. this may be related to various factors related to the environment, remember the Eucalyptus generally comes from hot places with lots of sunlight and warmth, like the Mediterranean or Australia... Let's see, could you please send a picture?
What kind of container do you have for it? Potting mix? How about light, how much light does it get? And how often do you water it? Sometimes it may be that the air is very dry at home, sometimes just the conditions where you live may not be optimal... Let's try to figure it out together 🌿💜
@@PlantsandLucia same thing happened to me!!
I love eucalyptus plant i hope someday i can have 1 tree of those here in the Philippines.
Love it! Would you please recommend a good website to buy plants?
Thank you.
This video was so helpful! I'm looking forward to exploring the rest of your channel to help me with my other plants! When you say you water from the bottom and then let it drain, how do you do that? Do you have water in a plate/saucer under your plant, then remove it when it is dry? Thank you!!

Thank you for the video! What should I do if I’m going on vacation for a week - I know there are self-watering devices you can put in but they continuously seep water. Do you have any tips? Thank you!
Hii! Thank you for that question! It's a very good one ☺️
If your plants need more watering than once a week, and you are going for a week I'd recommend to use watering spikes, you can find them here - amzn.to/2H4L943
I have a video on how to use them here: czcams.com/video/rAdFts54Dfg/video.html
Make sure that you only use these with plants that need more watering than once a week (since you are only going for a week, the ones that only need water once a week, you can water on the day before you leave and then when you come back)
Hope this helpful ♥️
Lucia
Thanks for these great tips. is this eucalyptus gunnii azura or eucalyptus gunnii? Thanks
Will the tips are the same for a Silver Dollar? Or are they the same? Thank you so much!
Really informative video, thanks for sharing.
I have bought a 7 foot Eucalyptus Gunnii which is currently in my lounge. I would like to keep it inside for as long as possible as a house plant but I expect I will need to plant it outside at some point. Everything I have read suggests that Eucalyptus should be grown in airpots in order to prevent it becoming root bound and falling over when it is eventually planted outside and grows into a large tree.
Can I repot into an airpot at this point in order to prevent it becoming root bound or is it likely to be too late already?
Hiii I'm sorry that I missed your message! Did you repot your Eucalyptus Gunnii in the end?
Thank you for this video! I have a question and need help, my Eucalyptus plant is in a south facing window and is growing well, however.. the leaves at the base/bottom of each stem/branch are dry! but the leaves on the ends are perfect, and growing quickly! what am I doing wrong? I wait until the soil is dry before watering like you have mentioned. Thanks again!
Thanks Lucia I want to buy eucalyptus I like them to make tea and I put a bunch in the shower
Is it normal for the stems to be so droopy? My eucalyptus seems to be growing out instead of up.
Thanks for the video! Great channel. I own a 6 ft eucalyptus that I've had since September 2019. I find it one of the more challenging indoor plants as I've had a lot of leaves dry up and felt like I had to water it so frequently. I would still notice leaves drying even though the soil is still wet. I've done some pruning and removed some of the dried up leaves and noticed that my new growth just keeps focusing on my already established ends of my eucalyptus. Do you have any tips on how should I handle this eucalyptus? Should I start pruning now that it's early spring? It's currently outside where the temperature is around 8 to 15 degrees.
Hii! Sorry I just noticed I did not answer this comment earlier! hmm the eucalyptus is very particular! However, I actually found a twitter account from a Eucalyptus farm and they are really amazing, super helpful and very knowledgeable about it :) You can find them here: twitter.com/hardyeucalyptus Hope this is helpful and that your Eucalyptus is doing well!
If I have all purpose potting soil, can I just amend it? What should I add to it?
Hello and thank you for the video. What to do if some of the leaves are dry? I bought it like that in the store. should I cut them and only leave the fresh ones? Or leave them where they are? Thank you!
Hiii! Many people have been asking this question, so I checked with a Eucalyptus expert and this is what he said: 😉
Eucalyptus really don't like being indoors there's too much artificial heat and high humidity for them to cope.
... if you have to grow eucalyptus indoors, I would recommend an unheated conservatory in full sun. if that's not possible you could try placing it on a windowsill that faces to sun but doesn't have a radiator. It will need watering every day - they don't bounce back when they have wilted. You'll have to just see if it survives.. if the crispy ends are well and truly dead, you could try trimming those leaves and branch tips off and it might resprout from the base or lower down the stem. Best of luck 💚🤞
Thanks for the awesome video Lucia! I cant wait to get my own Eucalyptus plant and start growing it. Where did you get yours?
Hii! I got mine in my nursery plant shop 🌿♥️! Here in Berlin they also sell them in outdoor farmers markets ☺️ they are super popular!
Love the video very cool but what if my leaves are turning yellow? I believe it’s becuase it was not receiving enough sun and was being over watered. How should I prune it??
Hi! Do you have a picture by any chance?
I loooove these plants! But I kill most of my plants (on accident of course😂) so I had a lot of training plants before I bought a eucalyptus.. I am on my third plant, and it seems to be dying.. So here I am, trying to learn how to keep it alive 🙏

thank you so much! do u think eucalyptus will be ok in a north facing window? there’s a lot of light all day since i live very high
Hi! As long as it gets lots of light, it should be okay! But I've learned that these plants can be very demanding indoors so make sure to observe your eucalyptus every day just to be sure it is doing well :-)
Hi!! I was wondering if someone could help me. I have a tiny eucalyptus plant, but it has only one strand in the middle of the pot. How can i make my plant more full? Can i prune and stick it back into soil or is that too risky?? Thank you!!

Can you propagate Eucalyptus through cuttings?
Is there a proper way to prune these plants? I just started a Eugenia gunnii and Eugenia pulverulenta from seed this spring and want to make sure I do the right thing
Hi! Is this plant the same or different from Silver dollar eucalyptus? As I know silver dollar is called Cinera, but they look exactly the same, so I wonder what the difference is.

Hello, I’m thinking of starting an indoor herb garden in an apartment. & I was thinking of starting w eucalyptus. I THINK I have an East facing window as an only option. Is eucalyptus a good herb to start w? If not what would u suggest?
Lucia my eucalyptus has survived about 5 months in my kitchen by an east-facing 2nd storey window but now his leaves are starting to dry up and drop off! I don’t know if it’s overwatering or too little sunlight affecting him. It has become winter now and days are short. Should I use an artificial light to keep him going? I only have West and East- facing windows.
please educate about peat moss it takes a very long time to become and its very valuable to the enviroments ecosystem.
Thank you sooo much for your comment! I learned about peat moss after making this video, and you are absolutely right! I am actually trying to make my potting mix with coconut coir now... We will see how it goes.. do you recommend any other sustainable alternatives?
P. S. I think I will remake videos that suggest peat moss, so people can learn about other alternatives..! Again, thank you and will work on this soon!

Hello I have recently bought a eucalyptus plant and done everything as I should but recently the leaves have started to dry up and go crispy. Do you know what I can do? I give the right amount of water and she sits on a south facing windowsill 😢x
Would I hurt my eucalyptus by pruning it in the summer? It’s indoors year round. I got it in the beginning of summer but it seems like the weight of some of the branches is weighing it down, and I’m worried it will get too droopy if I don’t prune it soon 😭
