Welcome to Marks Mini Cooper S Mk3 built in 1970 and registered in 1971. This Cooper S was last restored in 1997 and featured in Mini World magazine. Unfortunately 23 years down the line and it's looking tired in some areas so Mark has decided to take it off the road for a full restoration which will involve stripping it back to a bare shell, sandblasting, and a respray. Fortunately, the engine has already been restored recently by Swiftune engineering - Auta a dopravní prostředky

Thank you. How i deal with these panels is to walk away, think about it, get angry, then come back and get on with it 😂 There just seems to be obstacles at every stage at the moment! 🙄
@@markdraper7 I am very familiar with the walk away concept! With a mixture of genuine, aftermarket, Heritage and home made panels it is best to let a cool head prevail when it comes to fit.Cheers.

In the factory the front panel, wings and scuttle are welded together then fitted to the car as one piece. See CZcams ‘The British Company Keeping Classic Mini's Alive | Mike Brewer's World Of Cars’ @3:55 minutes. I’ve not tried this approach, but will definitely next time, now that I’ve seen it. Though they obviously use a jig I’m sure I could replicate this. Keep up the good work 👍

I have the same problem on my offsite A panel at the top where it meets the door Mark. I need to tap it back by at least 5mm to look right.
I seem to have sorted it somehow and the gap is ok. I've made the mistake before of trying to keep the gap equal all the way, but then it's smaller and then the door rubs onto it when it opens. I've made sure i've got lots of clearance for the door to swing open and not touch the A Panel.
Mark, those hidden boxed in areas (below each side of the scuttle that you’ve already pre-painted), - is there good drainage in there buddy?
Hi Phil, there's enough of a gap for moisture to run out of. Some weld them shut so any moisture that does get in there just gets trapped. Belt and braces with adding the paint and then the Dynax later will protect it further.
You seem to be having awful trouble with these heritage panels...I had to wrestle with my magnum wings to get them right but wouldn't have expected heritage to be such a struggle! How far behind actual time is this video? 24 degrees?
Fair comment about the fit of the replacement panels but it also makes one wonder how consistent and identical each car coming off the production line actually was….(or not)..

I thinks it's due to the presses being worn or maybe it's just me 🤷♂😅 I've had to do that with the wings on the previous car too. As Keith says, its a few weeks behind but don't forget, i have underfloor heating in the concrete floor so if i forget to turn it off when i go in the garage, the temps can get to 24 no problem. 😅
I HOPE the new panels are GOOD Quality NOT Taiwanse made CHEAP NASTY RUBBISH!!!!!!!!!! 😡😡Taiwanese panel will RUST OUT in NO TIME FLAT 😡😠😡
I once had a car at the panel beaters they advised using a Taiwanese wing and the old fella fixed the old one 👍👍!!
Thankfully, they are all Heritage panels made in the UK with the original tooling
