  • I'd been racking my brain for ages guys, trying to figure out a way to extend the wheelbase of my AWD cars to 98mm...You know guys, them shells we all drool over but can't drift with...how frustrating!
Them Ferraris, Mclarens and Lamborghinis that we all have in our collection but can't drive sideways with.
Problem solved - the answer was under our Mini Z noses all along!

Some of the after market rear suspension setups come with 2 sets of plates to bold the pod to the chassis, one for the normal sizes and a longer one for 98mm. very handy if you want a no drill alternative but they are likely a bit pricier

Thanx for the input, that's an interesting option - if you've got a link I'd like to take a look.

@@mossy5734 anything based off the DWS design tends to have this option, you can see examples of both sized upper and lower plates here www.kenonhobby.com/Kyosho-Mini-Z-AWD-DWS-Rear-Chassis-Set_p_44781.html
these can be bought in aluminum and carbon, i have an atomic AWS set that can with ll sizes, my understanding is that the extenders are hard to come by these days and that if you are looking to go DWS this is the cheaper option

@@BlitzWorks Looks cool - so am I right in thinking, you have to rebuild your rear diff and components onto the AWD DWS chassis plate?

What about wide 98mm wheelbase Dodge Challenger, with wide rear wheels, to narrow 90mm, with narrow rear wheels?
    Just this in reverse?

This was great! I just got the drift AWD Toyota. Would love to get a Ferrari body down the road. So, its nice to see this is possible. However, I notice that there is another metric (width). I assume the AWD is "narrow" so, I would need to find a body that is 98mm but also "narrow" correct?

Nice... i love mini-z... but the chassis can break easily, especially at the screw spot...

Yes mate that can be a danger - you might get away with it on this chassis, just because the AWD cars aren't prone to any high impact situations.

the Kyosho MA-020 AWD Mini-Z is getting ready to come out. It is an awd drift chassis with a 98mm wheelbase.

So, I wonder if we can just order the replacement part for the rear, and use that as an "upgrade" without drilling holes?

The whole hole drilling does not make sense. I wonder, why they did not just make the parts the same? There should be no reason for that, the back of the car is the same on both sides. All they needed to do is mold a block that fits like the other side, that is non-drilled. lol. Drilling that hole makes for a very weak area now :-(

      My sentiments exactly!
I've done another conversion after this video aired, without the drilling and that chassis seems to be holding up.

I actually got them off Ali express - I believe they fit the Mini Q chassis, they are a bit larger than stock Mini Z wheels and don't fit under a lot of Mini Z shells. So far they have fit under the Toyota Supra and Ferrari Testarossa shell.
