So I was a heavy cigarette smoker, my first love in a cigar was the CAO Flathead 660. A very stout cigar. I also like stout/porter beers. Your assessment for me was spot on. People who prefer stronger beer/wine/liquor will prefer a strong cigar
It's not about smoking that fancy and expensive cigar to start off with. You don't want to kill your bar on firsthand. A nice Connecticut or Cameroon are 2 of my favorites to offer someone who is getting into smoking cigars at the cigar lounge I work for. Start lite, creamy and smooth. Make sure you have some food on stomach and some sugar (ie soda or chocolate) with you in case you feel a little nauseous from the cigar at first. Great beginner video to help out the new and upcoming cigar aficionados out there!
Another great one for beginners, and for experienced smokers as well, is the Nica Rustica Adobe. It's rich and complex enough for the people who like maduros, but smooth and approachable enough for people who prefer something lighter or are just getting into it. Everyone I've handed one to loved them.
Being new to cigars and struggling to find something that i can say i really like, it's not helping that i can't seem to taste different flavours. Came across this video and has spurred me on to keep trying, great information and very helpful. it's good that beginners are not left behind and you explain so clearly, have subscribed to enjoy more

Good point about not being scared to try more medium-full bodied cigars. For me personally the light body cigars get boring while something with more of a punch keeps me enjoying the experience. After all I smoke for the flavors so why wouldn't I want potent and clear flavors delivered? I initially often stuck with Cuban cigars because of this fear of getting overwhelmed, so when I dipped my toes into new world cigars my interest literally got reignited. Not only were the construction of the cigars 10 times better the flavors were also stronger and more engaging to my taste buds. The fact that I now no longer had to struggle with crappy construction or cigars that were totally unsmokable and just concentrate my mind on the flavors and relaxation of the cigar is what kept me interest in the hobby up. Perdomo Limited Cameroon Edition Petit Corona quickly became a favorite of mine. Great cigar that I'd recommend anyone trying out.
A friend gifted me a 5 cigar starter set to try as I got into the cigar world. He included light to heavier cigars. It turns out I LOVED the Liga Privada no 9.

You know what? You have a wonderful and very informative channel, the way you present the cigars, defining the leaves and the flavors you get from them, and very pleasant to listen to. I just started to watch your channel today, you popped up so I watched and I subbed. A cigar you mentioned, the Vegafina, I never heard of it, and I've been into cigars for more than a couple years, and it really sounds and looks like a great cigar, and sometimes you truly enjoy a milder cigar, so I'll be on the lookout for them, I'd like to give them a try for sure, and the Artuo Fuente 858 I've always passed on for some reason, and that's an easy cigar to find, I can grab some today at the old B&M down the road. And the Illusione I've also passed on, I guess I needed to hear more about this particular Illusione, sounds like a really nice way to start the day with a cup of coffee, and you were so right about the Maduro's, how can you pass on them, they are such tasty cigars and the Drew Estate Maduro is one that I always have. I'm usually more of a bolder cigar smoker, love the La Bijou, and Fuente Don Carlos, Padron of course etc, I haven't been too much of a Cuban cigar smoker though, I've had a few, but they are a bit harder to find, and the way you presented them, you struck chord with me to see if I could find some. I really enjoyed how you presented your video, down to earth, no BS, just straight up to the point no nonsense, informative cigar talk. Refeshing. This is exactly what I was looking for. A systematic introduction to different flavour profiles and origins. As a whiskydrinker I was trying to aproach it in the same manner. I just didn't know where to start. Now I know where to start. Hoping some of this is available in the Netherlands. Thank you.

Thanks for the good info - I am trying to avoid the heaviest sticks, which can be off-putting - so this is a good list to focus on. Smoking cigars is all about exploring, you never know where the journey will take you😊

Glad to see someone recommend the Charter Oak. It's the only one I like that is considered a light cigar. Even though I prefer the darker, oily, heavy ones.
Thanks for this! I’m just getting in. I started out with a heavier smoke. I like whiskey and grew up with my dad smoking very full bodied cigars so it’s nostalgic for me. My first purchase was a GTO La Cura. I guess it was a lucky pick I enjoyed it. The advice I got at the shop was if you try a few and find something you like stick with it for a little while. I might get a bix of the GTOs. I will explore this entire list you’ve provided. I hope I can find all of these in the US. You got a new subscriber!

First time viewer and thoroughly enjoyed this presentation. I have a new found passion for cigars and had the Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No2 first on an empty stomach with Russels whiskey and wasn't that an experience 😂😂 I have since fallen for the Flor de Oliva Gold Robusto. Might be too mild in strength for some but the construction, draw, light flavour and aromas are a delight

Excellent video, lots of great recommendations and information. Love that Vega Fina is on here. That is one that I always recommend, in the Connecticut wrapper. Excellent stick. Love the Undercrown Maduro, but might be a bit strong nicotine wise for a newbie.

I like the selection but boy the prices! for a beginner, that's probably enough to put them off for life! Thanks for the videos. I'd like to see some 'budget' friendly cigar reviews, not so interested in cigars costing £20 or £30 a piece - especially if you do not know if they are to your taste; that's one hell of an expensive mistake!

I agree with your approach. When i first got into cigars i got many recommendations for the obligatory "mild" selections. Then one day i just grabbed something that just looked good, which turned out to be an Oliva V maduro. And it was love at first light.
Hoyo epicure 2 ! Great smoke, it’s a must try cigar for all.
Drew Estate Maduro was my first cigar for my birthday over the weekend lol. Just got a humidor and 22 cigars. Seasoning the humidor rn.
So thanks for your effort. I found your channel after buying some RVGN short torpedos. I wanted to like them, but overall my opinion was similar. On mild cigars I'm really fond of the Terra Nova DFC. I've tried all the Montosa and Terra Novas styles (Maduro, Arap, etc)., the TN DFC is the box buy IMHO for a mild well burning cigar - try one - you might well be impressed, not just for the price point. I did purchase some Illusione Epernays and will give them a shot. Thanks again.

My favorite currently right now and im a beginner. I like light beers and somehow I like darker cigars. Anything Connecticut wrapper tastes like hay to me..

Why is it that all the Swedes I have known, met, or watched (like you) speak flawless North American English, and not the King’s version, only a stone’s throw away?
Haha that's very kind of you to say! It's a great question too! My parents' generation definitely learned British English, so they'll spell words the English way if they differ, like "flavour". Some older people will have a slight British pronunciation too, but mostly a Swedish accent of course haha. I think younger swedes are just so heavily exposed to US media that North American English becomes more desirable and natural. Sweden is insanely culturally americanised actually, much more than most people might assume. As for Ruben and I, we actually grew up abroad most of our lives, so Ruben lived in Canada for a long time and I attended international and American schools all over the world, so that's why we speak the way we do!

Yeah not bad! I find cigars coming from the Garcia family can often be very spicy and peppery which can sometimes be a bit off-putting for beginners, but I agree that it's a great cigar!

Good stuff. Really like your list and the fact that you apply yourself. Your list reminded me to finally try the Principe, so I ordered some. And oh BTW, the RG Coronas de Lonsdales was super good, so no surprises there. You nailed it.
I will be a little annoying now (since I haven't yet today) and object to your description of RASS. It's very important to stack your terminology right when describing cigars if you want to be accurate. Most people simply don't care, but I know you do.
RASS is not a full bodied cigar. In fact, I'd hesitate to even call it medium. Maybe medium light, but I think I'd go light. In fact, RASS is known for being so muted body wise that you have to retrohale to really get into it (which is an interesting enterprise due to its strength). What RASS is, is strong. Very strong. RASS is a great example of how you can distinguish strength from body in a cigar and what that means exactly, which makes it an excellent list candidate.
Other than that, I'm grateful and a little envious as usual of New World availability in Sweden. Cheers,
Thank you man! That's absolutely fascinating what you say about the RASS. To be completely honest I've never ever experienced that with that cigar. I find it to be more towards full even in terms of body (for a cuban cigar at least). I've never found it to be light in body and forcing me to retro. What you're describing has happened to me with a RG Perlas before funnily enough, where it was decently light both in flavor and body but pretty damn strong in terms of strength.
@@StogieLads Very weird. I smoked at least 4 boxes of RASS and it's definitely light to medium bodied. Are you sure you're not mistaking strength for body?
How do you distinguish flavour from body BTW? Flavour is body, but it's also a spectrum of specifics obviously. Strong taste = full body but not necessarily strength which is nicotine. What is the fullness/richness of a cigar if it's not flavour saturation? Any specific flavour can be intense if there's enough saturation.
There are 3 aspects here right? Strength which is nicotine which also has a "flavour" (kind of but not really) but is a separate dimension. Then there is body, which is the richness/intensity of flavour, then there is mouth feel. Help me understand how you think here.
@@QualeQualeson Yes, strength is nicotine. Body to me is a little more abstract but I think of it more as the density of the smoke and how that affects your palate. To me, a cigar can have very clear and strong flavor, but it is still very thin and washes away quite quickly. In a way body is connected to the finish I guess. How much the flavor coats your mouth and persists. A full bodied cigar can be quite flavourless but the smoke itself can be super heavy and will leave the sense and taste of cigar smoke for a very long time after smoking. I hope my perspective made sense!
@@StogieLads Eh... It's true that certain flavours are thin while others are savoury. I don't think RASS has a lot of either of them though, but more savoury than thin to be sure. Certain chillies are strong but thin, but I don't think I'd call chilli light, know what I mean? Are you saying that body is strictly a question of like.. umami? I admit that it's not an open and shut case, but how are we going to keep throwing these terms around if we can't find a solid definition?
I think maybe I lean towards that lots of flavour = body is a more functional and less subjective definition. But at the same time, if you mix in understanding of wine, like it sounds like you do, it's a lot less clear cut. I don't know that the wine parallel works here though. Would you say for example that a Nicaraguan flavour bomb with a short finish is a cigar with a light body? You're kind of implying here that Cubans generally are heavier bodied than New World's, since they are generally more savoury. I think your stance needs some rethinking :p
Anyway, food for thought I guess. You could maybe mull on this a little and see if this could be a theme for a project in your group or a video. I'm open to reinterpretations myself. Thanks.
The VF 52 (Robusto) from the 1998 series is such a great bang for your buck! It's cheap, taste good and looks pretty exclusiv with it's second band. Here in Germany you'll pay 7,80€ per stick

Ive been a cigar aficionado for about 30 years and just tried the RA specially selected at the casa del habano in puerto vallarta and was blown away. Was about $30usd (price points were uk market) but really enjoyed it. Have you tried the RA gigantes ? Curious if that one is as good?

Never thought I'd see a video like this...Finally one.. Nice video which is going to make me go back to Cigars. 20 yrs ago the ones I've tried I would keep the ring and collect them like stamps and grade them each. I'am a heavy smoker....I'm glad to see this video ...An invitation to get into Cigars is really cool it's one of those finer things in life that one should experience by giving it a chance and with an open mind..imo. Should be in everyones bucket list....seriously. The kind of high you get smoking cigars is surely one of the best. You'll understand as to why its in the list of last request. i recently startet to try Cigars. I Startet with 2 from Montechristo that were around 15$ Each. Now i dont want to spend to mutch so my goal is now to test as many cheap cigars as Possible. I bought 15 different ones. Some froma Local Store and some on a Website. Now i try to test them out and see witch i like the most. Until now i Liked the Montechristo Tubos and the Casa Nicaragua the most. I dont think they need to cost a fortune. But i absolutely love to just test a lot of different ones.

Hey lad! Nice video, nice selection, nice clarifications! Beginers should not start only with connecticut but something medium as well, so they can understand the difference (and never with empty stomach) and more especially if they start with connecticut it should be a good one, not a very cheap or flavourless one, cause they won't like it and probably give up. Totally agree, I still smoke some of these! I would add the brickhouse selection from JC Newman, cause they are reasonably priced and tasty, all 3: connecticut, habano and maduro and they won't punch you in the face! Thanks for sharing! One of my first quality cigars was a Brickhouse classic robusto in Cyprus and i really enjoyed it. The fact that i was on holiday and smoked it at a beautiful cafe by the marina just enhanced the experience lol
