If you fill the compartment with bubble wrap, it diffuses and reflects the green LED brightly throughout. A quick, cheap, easy hack that'll give you a lot more illumination, in dark or light settings. Keep on Bustin!
What kind of bubble wrap? I tried it with green and right now it’s not working as well as I’d hoped
Tried to find it on the Walmart site, it doubled or tripled in price. And sellers on eBay are selling it for 280💀
I grabbed one of these things at Wal-Mart and I am so glad I did. It looks fantastic on my display shelf and fills my desire of a detailed trap but for only $20!
I highly recommend using rechargeable batteries for the trap, as they do eat batteries when not in use

$20 is practically a bargain. I love these things. There’s plenty of room for mods and improvements. The template is there.
I 100% agree, give it a good paint job with some smoke effects, and if you replace that foot pedal to look more movie accurate, it’ll look AWESOME
I am defiantly getting one of these and modifying it to look as movie accurate as possible. I had one of the Spirit Halloween Ghost Traps, but it sadly got damaged. I plan on reusing the stickers from the Spirt trap on the new one once I get it.
I might rewire mine so off is “Off” rather than “Try Me,” and replace it with a more screen accurate toggle switch while I’m at it.
Did that with mine bro. U can wire a smoke pump to run off the footswitch as well. Extra lights...all kinds of options
@@ghostengineer nice! I left that switch on and stuck it inside. Snipped the red off the battery and ran it up to a toggle switch. Toggle switch back to the red leading to the board. Wanted a more movie look on top. Foot switch reran everything out the bottom Threw air compressor fittings (drill the centers out) to the foot switch that runs the trap and smoke pump. These traps are fun all kinds of options. Only down sides the wires are really cheap and can break easy so best if you keep a solder iron handy lol
Haven’t seen this mentioned anywhere, so I’d like to point out that when the trap is activated, a green circular shape is projected on the ceiling.

I have to admit though, as a kid I really liked the air pump one BECAUSE I could time when it opened and closed so easily. I even threw this stuffed ghost I had into it, and I wanted to close it super fast to "catch" it. The electronic one not only wouldn't have let me do that, but the sound would have driven the family insane. I assume this one CANNOT open and close without the sound? Did I miss that in the review? So I could see how this works way better for adult collectors and not so much for kids who will actually want to use this for hours on end.

I found one day before yesterday. It was the only one in the store. Turned out it didn't work. I replaced the batteries and only the red light blinked. Nothing else, so I had to return it. I looked at every store in town and all the GB stuff was sold out. Only ones I could find were on Ebay and scalper prices for anywhere from 50 to 100 dollars. I did manage to get a working PKE meter though so it was not a total loss.
Did you replace the batteries with brand new batteries?
What’s the difference between Rubie’s/Imagine and Spirit PKE Meters? Take the backs off and then try putting them back on.
I wish they would bring the one with the pedal back! My son is 3 years old and is in love with ghostbusters! Keeps asking for a ghost trap like this but people who do have them for sale online are selling them for wayyy more for 20$ 😩
Will be buying this very soon to go with my Proton Pack. The only thing that's stopped me from getting kitted out is the lack of good and reasonably priced props!
Which trap would you get?
It almost looks like i could" hide " the pedal in my bag on the side of my wheelchair and have it casually in my hand while the trap is on a table or something to look aesthetically pleasing. Definitely seems worth the cost
I'll just hang on to my Mattel trap.
The one and only mod I would do to this trap is put some reflective silver tape on the insides of the doors. Other than that, it is perfect ... AS IS.
It needs some bright lights shinning up when the door opens to give it that open trap effect. 20 bucks is a steal for that toy.
Smoke system from RC tank need added in this and Slide a heat shrink wrap down the cable and thicken it up and make it more sturdy looks like it'll rip out thw fine solder very easily
the kenner ghost traps were notoriously bad for the hosing to split and was
an pain to repair it that took hours to get mine fixed but toys in the 80's
were cheaply mass produced that many issues of parts breaking off
and not functioning properly i had to repair my castle greyskul
by replacing the interiors with new parts that came from
united states but it all fit and worked nicely at least toys have improved
since then.
Thank you for clearing up the off/on switch with the pedal. I thought I had a defective model and my batteries are drained for this reason. I will start keeping the switch in the middle position.

Dude! That is so cool for $20! If you're picky, you can just repaint it and maybe make a new body around the pedal! I'm so glad I skipped on the Spirit Halloween one, now I'm going to look for this!

I found one just casually in the toy section while looking for puzzles to pass the time, I snatched this up real quick and it's totally worth it
How cool are they! I had all the blue ones as a kid just looking back at my memories as clearing my grans out and found my old ghostbuster car it still looks new! I had 2 the first one got wrecked
I would personally buy this one as well as look for stickers to put on it and paint the parts that is that

Some ppl are complaining how easy it is to get the trap doors stuck in the open position, you gotta get the screw driver and open up in half, fix the gear system and screw back the two halves. My kid broke mine on the first day but we fixed it :D
I fixed mine by popping the door off by CAREFULLY bending it until the pin comes out (the end with the 3 lights) and realigning it on the gear
My Walmart's toy department didn't have much space for these so you might have to ask for a trap or PKE meter.they had a few of each.
Not $20 anymore. People have scavaged them and selling them on Ebay now. Good luck finding one in the stores.

Me and my cousin got these and the PKE's as fun novelty items since we love GB's but don't have tons of cash to make or buy our own actual replicas. Really great quality for the price point! My cousin explained he was trying to think of something he could put inside the trap for while it goes through its light and sound display. So I gave him a spare Mattel Slimer that came with the 7 or so inch figures from years back. Actually kinda cool! Since their Slimer was translucent and there's green lights in there it gives the spud a nice look. Plus he's just small enough to fit in there while the doors close so you can just leave him in there all the time. Used a bit of museum putty to keep him from rattling around.

Is that actually at the Walmart in Canada? Seriously the only Ghostbusters related thing I've seen there is a hot wheels car of Ecto 1. Walmart online shows a ghost trap from Spirit Halloween priced at $300! So what's going on here? Feels like I live in some alternate universe where Ghostbuster stuff is rare and overpriced. 😔 Smh.
You're not alone. Asshole scalpers are grabbing them and selling them for 3 to 4 times what they are actually worth right now.
I want one but I don't want to pay 5X the price on Ebay. Walmart is terrible at making stuff available.

I just checked my spirit Halloween ghost trap..if you switch to the middle position the same thing happens where the batteries dont drain

I have the OG Spirit Halloween version but if I ever find this in store I’ll pick it up for the pedal feature.
Wish they'd routed the wire out where the hose should be. It would make the mods so much easier. But overall, I do like this trap, and at $20, it's a steal. A little work, and it can look pretty great, I think.
I have a question considering the trap cord, if I were to hold it up to pretended I caught a ghost, would it break off from the trap base? If so, what material should I use to tough up the wire?
I wouldn't risk it. It's about as thin a wire as they could've used. My plan is to cut it, drill a new hole where it should be, add a brass fitting, route the wire through, splice in about 6 feet of extension, then cover the whole thing in 1/8" split loom tubing, with electrical tape to reinforce the pedal connection. Hope this helps.
@James O’Blivion, this is certainly helpful information, although I personally am not much of an electronics person. But I hold your trap rebuild goes well.

I love my matty collecter trap and pke, but never use them due to worry about damaging them since the values skyrocketed. (But stickers on the doors for the matty? Really?) so the wal mart stuff is great! Yeah they are not as accurate, but 20 bucks? That’s a steal. I bout a trap that I thought was broke because I didn’t really care if the sounds worked for a prop for my outfit. Changed the batteries and it’s fine. I’ll but more if I ever find them stocked again. As a 40 year old who grew up on GB,I have to say it’s a good time to be alive!

Is it not just the bit of power left in the pedal when it's switched off Does it do it again or just the once then the powers discharged? I've a few things that do the same thing you have to hit the power button to get that extra energy out it! Virgin routers do it and Google chromecasts

All the traps have lousy weak batteries installed

Yep! Trap, PKE, and the Kenner Classics are usually kept all together in the toy isle.

Unfortunately these sell on ebay for ridiculous prices now. Other than Ebay I haven't been able to find them anywhere.
The Spirit Halloween is actually better and here's why. Walmart rely on battery. Nothing works without the battery. Battery drain if you leave it on. Spirit Haloween version the latch still open without battery. You can leave the latch open and use it as a cone incense holder with smoke coming out just like in the movie. There's actually a new version that is just an incense holder selling for $59. Spirit you can convert as a toy and an incense holder.
So spirit Halloween of these 2 I should get? Didn't one of da ghost detectors meters had a ⚙️ you can turn to make the p k go faster as your near a 👻?

Go ahead and find you a "Matty Ghostbusters GhostTrap!" MORE expensive, but in the long run....WAY MORE ACCURATE!!!!.

Carefully take out, Change the batteries on side of trap and put back in box, it will work, mine did same thing

Yeah, it was a battery issue. My trap did the same thing until I changed the batteries out.
I like the new one better without the push button.
Yeah. The batteries in thr ghost traps tend to be cheap and bad. I replaced mine with some Duracell batteries and it worked fine.
The doors stopped moving after about 10-15 times of hitting the button
Bring back the Kenner blue one!
I could see this making for a great trap to buy & then modded to be more accurate. Probably still be cheaper then the other when done too.

The best I was able to do recently without spending a fortune is this hollow plastic prop. I figured it's good enough to hang from my belt or something but I'm not really sure how to do even that.
Bought this for my son, one of his Bday presents. Doors wouldn’t open and would still work with switch in off. Crap.
