Suit up for classic comedy! Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis) and Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson) take a chance on going freelance, de-haunting houses in a new ghost removal service. As soon as they open their doors, their first order of business becomes saving beautiful cellist Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver) and nerdy Louis Tully (Rick Moranis), who’ve inadvertently opened the gates of hell… right in their own apartment building!
Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), (Egon Spengler) Harold Ramis, and Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson) take up their proton packs once more to battle the forces of evil in Manhattan! After waging a war on slime that cost New York City millions, the Ghostbusters find themselves out of business until an ancient tyrant, preparing a return to the Earthly domain through his portrait at the Manhattan Museum of Modern Art, sets his sights on Dana Barrett's baby as the new home for his wicked soul! With the help of the Museum's possessed curator, he plans to turn New York into a really scary place to live! So for those wondering about Slimers backstory-He was never a person. The Cult of Gozer tried to summon a spirit to use as a weapon in the 1920's-but ended up accidently creating a ectoplasmic being of pure gluttony with a never ending hunger, the slimer we all know and love

@Brandon 'I love Cait Jackson' Rachal Well, he kind of was a good ghost on "The Real Ghostbusters" cartoon where the Ghostbusters wondered why he didn't escape away with the other ghosts as the containment unit exploded where Winston thought it was for free food, Peter thought he wanted to make another attempt to slime him, and Janine thought maybe he was lonely and the other ghosts ignored him while the Ghostbusters are the only ones who paid attention to him.
There was another short living ghostbuster cartoon that focus on slimer and his caper with an madman.

I was really happy to see Slimer's return in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.
And the best part of it is that practical effects had once again been used for Slimer, and he looked like how he had appeared in the 1984 film.
So good to see him return.
And now that Trevor Spengler got slimed by him, he knows how Venkman felt.

I know the special effects for Slimer were expensive back in the day but I’m glad the producers had him helping Rick Moranis’ character with the bus ride. I hope Slimer helps the new Ghostbusters in Frozen Empire again.

I wish we'd seen the Ghostbusters interact with Slimer in the second film. Show Egon studying him whilst keeping him docile with food etc.
Jurassic World did it with the trained and friendly dinos. They didn't seem to see the opportunity on GB2. If Slimer can drive a bus, he can shoot a proton pack.

Underrated line: "Venkman, shorten your stream, I don't want my face burned off." It lends to the reality of GB1, showing how these characters are normal people who are flawed, clumsy and fumble around with new technology. It avoids a "Mary Sue"-style characterization where characters just zip through the movie with perfect skill and never encounter obstacles.
Even when they went Mary Sue with that reboot, they failed miserably.

@@CorpCoral The reboot was a mess and it was not the fault of the actresses. Each one of those women is talented and funny, but the direction, writing, editing, and cinematography were subpar and thats 100% Feig’s fault. Like I can get into all the film school stuff about how the narrative beats were clumsy, how the scene compositions were overly cluttered, how his camera placement is fine for Television but not cinema, or his clumsy, hamfisted handling of franchise callbacks but I don’t really need to. The actresses would have done an excellent job if they had something to WORK with, and they are not at fault for the movie being subpar. They are each of them funny, talented, proven capable comedic actresses. Paul Feig shit the bed, and when you combine that with studio imposed focus-group tested interference you get a flop.
@@orbitalbutt6757 I'll be honest, what made me like Ghostbusters 2016 (or the subtitle Answer the Call) is Kate McKinnon and Chris Hemsworth's characters. There are some moments of the reboot I didn't like, but Holtzmann and Kevin really saved it for me.
@@Shanethefilmmaker I understand where you're coming from, though when I look back on the 2016 film sure there are *some* "Mary Sue" moments, but the part where the girls are testing their own Proton Packs reminded me of the original. Melissa McCarthy's character, Abby Yales, where she's flying around in the air with a super-charged Proton Pack like those water hover-packs did make me laugh.
It's a parallel to the original boys where both Ghostbusters are using untested equipment that may or may not lead to accidents or even worse upon themselves.
Looking back at Ghostbusters ll, the production team definitely added in some elements from the cartoon.

Huge mistake. The elements that they used from the cartoon was when the quality started to drop. The Lorenzo Music era was a lot darker.
Same thing happened to Men In Black II. Took more cues from the cartoon than the previous tone of the first movie.

Whether as a mischievous ghost like the rest or a friend to the Ghostbusters, either way, there is no doubt that Slimer would still be a fan-favorite ghost to this day.
Yeah =) The way I see it with Slimer, it's his appearance, how he can make such a huge mess and be mischievous that makes him such a fan favorite. :) The Real Ghostbusters amplified his character after he was one of the few ghosts not contained after the destruction of the first containment unit at the firehouse by Peck's actions, and it led him to be a pretty recognizable part of the Ghostbusters mythos.
@@BryonYoungblood Yep. When Ghostbusters: The Video Game was made and released in 2009, the designers had Slimer be a mischievous ghost instead of having him be a friend to the Ghostbusters.
The same thing was originally intended to be done for The Real Ghostbusters too when I had first seen the promo pilot.

The design of Slimer when he's eating the hot dogs in GB1 is so perfect. I don't understand how the GB2 design got so wrinkly and bug-eyed.
The cartoon may have the reason why.

I dont know how they come up with this but slimer spinning and moving fast when attacked and then the arm waving and wierd panting as if its turning a corner. amazing detail

@@systemshocker2875 they had a person wearing the costume from the waist up in some scenes. I have a book on how they made the two original films and the cartoon(s). I didn’t know that they made up a second cartoon that looks gawd awful!
I always liked Slimer just hanging out in Ghostbusters 2. I know his popularity was based on the TV show (and some people might not like that he took over the show later on) but it’s still fun that there’s one ghost that the crew doesn’t mind having around (except for Peter that is)

Slimer driving the bus and offering a ride to Louis is such a great nod to kids who watched the cartoon where Slimer was something between a friend/intern/pet to the ghostbusters. Its such a great short scene; Slimer should have had more screentime though.

I recall the genius perfectionists James Cameron, giving his blessing to Terminator Genisys. Or even Mark Hamill (who did cryptically try to warn us) who towed the line with fake support for the Last Jedi.
If you put your faith in actors (or film crews producers, directors) these days for their opinions on current films, you’d be a fool. Everyone is bought and paid for from crew to the authors of reviewing articles. Particularly those propaganda pieces (deigned to drum up support) that do not allow comments in response to which.
May I suggest you put your faith in the likes of independent CZcamsrs. The ones who are honest, and critical. For
now.
In a few years I presume the studios will have their plants for that too!
@@Y2Kr4SHM4N This is the first sequel I know of that's directed by the child of the original director. That alone means we should give it the benefit of the doubt. I know GB2 didn't really work but Ivan Reitman has been very open about that movie not coming together and Murray has been somewhat critical of GB2 also. So both of the guys who didn't like GB2 are saying this one is very good. If Star Wars 7 had been directed by George Lucas' son, we would've expected it to follow his original storylines. Well, here we have a movie that is firmly part of the "family" with the originals. We don't know if it will work or not, but there is no one else who could be attached to the movie that would inspire more confidence.

Egon in the game, which is essentially Ghostbusters 3, called Slimer their live in science experiment.
If you watch the cartoon he pretty much becomes a sidekick after growing fond of the ghostbusters in a sort of origin flashback
Ghostbusters: Afterlife should touch on the result of this live in science experiment.
Slimer became their pet on "The Real Ghostbusters" cartoon.

I understand why they changed him though. The new puppet looks more like he did in the cartoon, and was more advanced with a more expressive face.
@@Rocket1377 I dont think GB2 slimer looks like the cartoon at all. Cartoon slimer was created after the original movie, so it more closely resembles the 1984 design that it was based on. GB2 slimer is way too big, it looks like he has a distinct separate head (as opposed to one big blob like the original), the cheekbones are ridiculously exaggerated, and he has 3 giant belly rolls that the original and the cartoon dont have. I never liked GB2 slimer just cuz it deviated so much from the original AND the cartoon. Actually 2016 slimer is more faithful overall to the design of the original, than GB2 is.
@@hrs2044 Agreed, GB2's slimer just looks like a fan's build of the character gone wrong. The cartoon Slimer looked a lot more like the one in GB1 than the one in GB2.
Original slimer is way more expressive, gross and hilarious. GB2 slimer is stiff, poor articulation with one expression.

Plus, when he eats, nothing comes out of him, but when he drinks, it goes through him.
I hope Slimer plays at least a small role in the next film. Maybe he has been staying with Egon's stuff, or maybe he stayed behind with Tully or at Ray's shop perhaps.
