Vibrato Shootout - Diamond VS TC Shaker VS Behringer UV300 VS Boss VB-2w

  • Today we compare the following Vibratos. Diamond Vibrato, Boss VB-2w, Behringer Ultra Vibrato UV300, TC Shaker Vibrato
    Keep in mind, I am NOT a heavy vibrato user. It is one affect I usually don't bond with. BUT, I had several Vibratos lying around. So since I've seen very few Vibrato shootouts online, I figured I'd put something out there to give people a general feel of each.

    This was a no brainer for me. Unless you’re a vibrato afficianado having a sound that’s integral to that pedal, the Behringer is the best choice here. I bought one tonight, thanks, Tri!

    Its not shown in this video, but the Shaker gets to places I really enjoy, like tape wow and flutter. Actually captures that lofi wonky vibe.

      Oh interesting. That's something the other three can't do at all. Rad.

    Props for actually isolating each pedal so the buffers aren't effecting the other pedals! It's very refreshing to see that. All the behringer pedals sound pretty much just as good as boss but their buffers are terrible and suck tone(especially highs) in bypass. If behringer just revamped their pedals with a better buffer and used a cheap pot metal enclosure and used regular switches instead of momentary switches then they would be excellent! But at the very least if they just made a v2 of all their pedals with upgraded buffers or an internal dip switch for true bypass then they would be amazing deals. They almost are amazing deals but the buffer kills them. Hell even if they were an extra $5 with improved buffers or a bypass option and a better case (nothing fancy just not plastic) they would fly off the shelves and people would by multiple instead of just buying one and finding out about the buffer and not buying anymore.

    Not in the market for a vibrato pedal, of these I would without hesitation choose the Diamond. Thanks again for another well done demonstration.

    Thanks for the demo. For me, the Boss was head and shoulders above the rest. I could see the Diamond being really good for a darker, more lo fi sound though.

    The Boss is fantastic but I am consistently surprised and impressed by Behringer pedals.

    • @LeviBulger

      They're shameless as hell, but they do a pretty good job of emulating the tones from almost everything Boss does. That said, they are absolutely ungiggable in my opinion unless using them in a loop. And the problem there is that they're so noisy and REALLY obvious when you kick the loop on. If they could fix their noise issues, use boss quality buffers, they would be no brainer pedals for a lot of people because of their price, even with the cheap plastic enclosure. Because sonically, they get really damn close to Boss/Roland. They just released a Roland TR-808 clone and it's absolutely unreal and probably indistinguishable from the original to most ears. They certainly impress.

      Behringer have very good pedals, even there is some models that are very wanted (Reverb Machine, Echo Machine and come Overdrive pedals), I see that many people disaproved them but their only justification is because that they are made of plastic. The plastic case could be a issue, if you activate your pedals jumping over them, but they can resist a normal use with no problem. Even Josh from JHS pedals have a video talking about Behringer's pedals, and is very interesting how they works and how close are of reach the quality of recogning companies like Boss, Line6, electro-armonix and Ibanez. All with a low price.

      Behringer actually makes parts used in other pedals, so it’s very easy for them to use chipsets popularized by Boss.... lol

    Great comparison. You really can't go wrong with any of these, even as a person that's not crazy about vibrato.
    Best part hands down, though? The Zelda 2:Adventures of Link reference at 3:13. I think of that music every time I hear a Vibrato pedal.

      Favorite game I ever played! :) Spent my entire childhood trying to beat it, never did on the original system. Only could when emulators came out and you could save your game whenever you wanted. That's what I always think of as well when I hear vibrato. Come to think of it.. never beat Zelda I either

      Same here- scrolled down to comment this! I was stuck on the same place in Zelda 2 for years, until a friend FINALLY told me what I should do next. It wasn't the best for playability, but the theme was great and soundtrack...unbeatable. It is my inspiration for wanting a vibrato pedal. Thanks for using the temple theme: it spookily appeared just as I wished someone would use it in this demo.... :O

      I got rid of the Diamond way before I was interested in the Magnatone Vibrato sound, so I can't sit them side by side. Diamond with no dry signal blended is darker though, none of the magnatone vibes I've played are that dark. So I don't think it's possible.

      That diamond sounds beautiful. The TC one sounds quite nice too. Behringer is identical to the boss. The boss will keep its value though and will essentially last for decades. The Behringer might not.

    Behringer is a no brainer for the price and because it actually sounds as good as the Boss...the Tc is ugly and weird knob range, the Diamond has weird artifacts in the sound and is expensive.

  • @AndyAcker

    I think this vid highlights for me how the Boss vb-2 is simply fantastic. I liked it better than the Behringer clone in this demo. And 3:12 Zelda 2...perfect choice.

  • @christopherrusch
    @christopherrusch Před 5 lety

    Doesn’t the Jazz switch for the diamond make the tone darker? So by having the switch up you’re consciously make the tone darker

    • @TriPedalReviews
      @TriPedalReviews  Před 5 lety

      You would think that's how it works, other way around. ~11:19 in the demo shows flipping the jazz switch and the difference it makes. Down is darker, up is brighter. The depth switch also operates opposite of what you think it would as well.

  • @CorbCorbin
    @CorbCorbin Před 6 lety +4

    What I got from this comparison was that Diamond makes awesome, if not a bit overpriced pedals. And, the Behringer can get you close to the Boss and TC for $30. The Boss and TC have sounds the Behringer can't make, but you have to think, "what am I wanting Vibrato pedal for."
