Look, for how many times Obi-Wan pulls out a Cerveza Cristal, I'm siding with Uncle Owen on this one. Obi-Wan is clearly an alcoholic, he's a bad influence on Luke, and he would probably lose to Darth Vader in a lightsaber duel because he'd be too drunk to focus on the fight...
As a Chilean that grew up with this, I can confirm that I develop alcoholism because of this ad.

Viva Chile mierda. Note, It wasn't the first time Star Wars was broadcast in Chile. This was during the 2004 rerelease. Anyways fun memories of my childhood.
Came to say this, I grew up watching Star wars in the 80's, so it's not really the first time it was shown on public tv

I am from Chile and remember watching these versions on TV. There are others I have not seen yet. For instance in ROTJ, the rebels are in Endor and Han says “shh someone’s coming” and then a guy shows up walking in a forest (very similar to Endor) drinking cerveza cristal. I loved it as a kid although the ads were so well integrated to the movie and moments that you always got caught with your guard down because audiences were also very immerse in the movie. Damn I wished I would have taped the movies on VHS. But we didn’t know we would get this fun ads and ofc many of us had the DVDs already. Who knows, perhaps after realizing the online buzz those version would release again?

Absolutely real. I am from Chile and I can confirm it. Of course, it was not the first time we saw the original Trilogy on TV, it was the first time we saw the special edition on TV. There is a curious story from when they premiered "Return of the Jedi" in the 80s on TV. The broadcast was interrupted by the news about an attack against Augusto Pinochet by an armed group that was against the dictatorship. What a coincidence.

This has been a weird year to be chilean. First Christell's "Dubidubidu" song went viral in Japan as the chipi chipi cat meme. Then came a 31 Minutos resurgence around LATAM that was picked by english speakers. History Matters did a "why Chile is long" video and HoI4 is giving Chile an update. And now those old Star Wars TVN comercials are viral.
Chilean culture is being expose to the world and i don't think the world is ready....there is a reason why you need to cross mountains, deserts and the sea to enter Chile...

I am chliean and I watched these commercials during the Star Wars movies transmissions in 2003, and I must say that I really loved them, but I have to clarify that wasn't the first time that these movies were broadcasted in our country, actually, these movies has been broadcasted in our Television since the 80s (by the way, as I can remember, I think that was the first time Episode 1 was broadcasted on the chilean Television, so that movie in particular was possibly the only new one for our Television by then).
This was not the first broadcast of the original trilogy in Chile. The films were already on TV since the 80s.
Btw, i never saw the Star Wars spots but i remember ones for ET with a cellphone company lol

It was not the first time, the trilogy had already been broadcast before, my mother was a fan in the 80s just from seeing it on public TV (TVN), with the prequels there was a new wave of SW in the country and this advertisement came out, If I'm not mistaken I remember that Canal 13 showed a movie from the saga every summer sunday in those years (2001-2006) it was a tradition, they went from The Phantom Menace to A New Hope directly, very confused 🤣 until they broadcasting the entire saga.
I was 7-8 years old without access to Internet or TV Cable, discovered Star Wars thanks to this and the DVDs that my mother rented 😊

This wasn't the first time on TV! My dad actually watch the original on the movie theaters. This was the first broadcast OF THE SPECIAL EDITION on public TV, but the movies were being rediscovered when Episodes 1 and 2 came and local broadcasting started pushing the movies again. Good old days of Chilean TV!!
My preferred special edition is the beer edition

This is probably the best and right time to be a Star Wars fan, the community is now embracing these ads (even as canon), we're now united by this, I'm sure many SW fans are going to drink Cerveza Cristal from now on. I feel happy because of this, makes me wanna rewatch the films with a Cerveza Cristal in my hand (even if I've never drink in my life, but I would do an exception).
Genuinely want to watch the full version, would be so fun anticipating when and how all the breaks would happen 😂
I'm from Chile, I was 14 back then and me and my mom was watching the movies. We laughed out loud with those small advertising and she still remembers those clever and funny commercial with that catchy and kind a cool rock song "Cerveza Cristal"

I just want to clarify that 2003 wasn't the 1st time the original trilogy was shown on TV here in Chile, we have a regular delay of 3 years for air channels but by early nineties everyone had cable TV so the movies were shown almost at the same time than in the US cable networks.
I did indeed saw the original trilogy on tv several times in the eighties.

Let me tell you that I was a witness to that, because I never missed watching the saga on open television. It was incredible to see when the beers appeared in the movie. And it wasn't just once but several times as you yourself said. The first time Star Wars was seen in Chile on television was in the 80's, everyone here remembers when in 1986 half of Chile was watching Return of the Jedi and in the middle of the movie, they played a breaking news story on television. that there had been an attack against Pinochet. I remember seeing these on TV when I was 10. Totally unexpected, these ads came out of nowhere but were a good laugh nontheless. I also remember ads for E.T, not for Cerveza Cristal of course but for a Phone operator called Smartcom, which no longer exists. Good memories hahahaha.

I'm from Chile and i remember watching Star Wars for the first time ever with this commercial and until today i thought it was a Mandela effect because my father told me that he didn't remember that kind of commercial, and that's not all i remember more of them. One in particular, in the 3rd movie when Leia was in Endor before meeting the Ewoks and she said, silence someone is coming and then appear 2 guys with beers

This reminds me of a very impressive Star Wars fan film from the 2000s where a Sith and a bunch of bounty hunters are after the "Essence of the Force" in a secret location. A Jedi guarding the area stops them. After a long and arduous battle, the villains are on the ground, the Essence just out of grasp. The Jedi goes to it, picks it up, and...It's a Mountain Dew can. This was a Mountain Dew commercial.

I'm chilean, those ads where like kind of a (pleasant) jumpscare when i was a kid. I must say, there is one of those ads "missing" (can't find it on yt), is the one where han solo is frozen on carbonite and when they eject him, instead is a CERVEZA CRISTAL

FIRST broadcast of the OT in Chilean television was in 1986 not 2003!!! And it was yearly for over a decade.
The 2003 was the Special Edition re run and at the time Phantom Menace was also broadcasted.
Many Chileans saw parallelism between the Empire and the dictatorship that ruled the country from ‘73 and throughout the 80’s, so it has a special importance and impact on Chilean people.

It was not the first airing of Star Wars trilogy on chilean tv but it was the first time Canal 13 did it because the Star Wars TV boradcast rights belonged firstly to another channel called TVN.

Just to be precise, "airing in Chile for the first time..." is not accurate. The original trilogy was aired annually from 1986 onwards on the public TV channel (currently named TVN).
This needs to be done for the prequel trilogy.

no, is not the first time the original trilogy was on air in chilean tv (in facts the TOR was on chilean tv 4 times every year in the 80s and 90s). my first time was in a 12¨ black and white tv with just 5 years old
in 2003 is was the first time for the 1997 special edition.
but was in prime time tv sunday night, so was many people watching tv.
and in facts, the publicity agency win the international publicity award in cannes for that.
the star wars fans hate more the changes (like the new final music after endor battle) than the cristal beer publicity.
