Yes, we have a similar dessert Muah Chee in Chinese also known as Mochi in Japanese. Ingredients differ, we can either stuff it or coat it as above. Instead of corn flour, we use glutinous rice flour or sweet rice flour as known in US. Coating or stuffing can be black or white sesame seed powder or peanut powder.

I do have a similar one in my country, Spain, it's called leche frita, just subtitute the coffee with milk, fry the cubes afterwards and toss them over cinnamon sugar 🥰

It looks so good. This would be great dipped in chocolate to make a bon bon or truffle center. I put rum extract in my coffee when making Tiramisu. Adding vanilla or rum extract might make a yummy variation.

Since I recently started cooking more than the regular things I’ve been cooking over and over for years, and while I’ve had the standard salt, pepper, garlic powder, I’ve been adding to my staples with each shopping trip. Yesterday I grabbed a jar of instant coffee figuring sooner or later some decadent recipe would call for it. Today this showed up in my notifications. Guess what I’m gonna do?

Where I live in Michigan, USA, we have a sweet called 'fudge" that can be made in any flavor you can think of. It gets very firm when chilled and is to eat with any sugar, chocolate or flavor topping. It is even put into ice cream. But now you have made me crave the coffee or mocha flavor! Thank you for the inspiration.

There's another similar dessert from the Chinese cuisine. We do it in the same way but the ingredient is slightly different. Lotus root powder is being used instead of corn starch. The texture of lotus root powder dessert is very soft & chewy, quite like glutinous rice flour. The only difference is after the dessert is completely cool at room temperature, you can feel the cooler sensation from this dessert when it's cooled in the fridge. So it's very suitable for a hot summer day. If you have a chance to get this lotus root powder, try to make it and you'll know. The ratio of this powder is usually 1: 6 - 1:9 ( 1 part powder 6-9 part liquid), it depends how jiggling you want it. Have fun to make during the summer months!

I made it. Couldn't dissolve the corn starch with that quantity of water, and added more. The result was it was so leaky that wasn't firm at all, even keeping it in the fridge. Nex time, I'll put half of the milk together with the sugar and add it to the water to solve the corn starch

so its a thick custard loaf :P
if you keep it in the semi thick stage while adding more butter it can whip up nicely for a cake filling
also im not a big fan of granulated sugar as a coating and i recon powdered would just get absorbed so maybe some finely copped hazenuts or maybe even a middle of layer flavor like cream or toffe... so many ideas so little time :P
or use relly strong coffe and make little esspresso bites to give an energy boost :P
