I actually saw Larry Bird play live in person several times. When he would make an astonishing pass, the entire crowd would give a collective gasp of amazement. He was THAT good bro.
he said Larry Bird has got to lead the league in assists lying on the floor!
The tap pass is magical but the granny toss over the head is hilarious! How he made them is a mystery!
Keep in mind, Bird was a small forward, but had the passing skills of a point guard. Larry's career scoring average would have been far greater, but he was generous with the ball. Bird always wanted his teammates to score points, too. Bird was not interested in his own scoring stat. He was a team player. Shared the limelight.
Congrats to the 2023-24 Celtics! Number 18!
Larry Bird was a great passer. He made hard passes look easy. Magic made easy passes look hard with finesse. I think Magic had the edge on passing but only by a very little bit.
yes and no. Magic controlled the ball. Bird did not.. a lot of birds passes came on quick tap passes after coming off a screen. different types of passers. but numbers wise obviously Magic.
@@soramirez5473 he did make a lot of tap passes but other than that he made every kind of pass you could make bounce passes behind the back, long full court passes, over thread passes. That's part of what made him exciting to watch. You are right about magic having the ball. They played their positions which were different.
@@user-uw7yb3vc5v i didnt say bird DIDNT do OTHER passes. my point was that Bird's passes usaully came off of quick moves and decisions. as opposed to Magic dribbling the length of the court at full speed controlling the rock.
@@soramirez5473 true that's why I put magic over bird as far as passing . Loved watching both of them. They were such great players. All time greats of the game.
@@user-uw7yb3vc5v I agree but since i value off ball movement, I prefer larry. in my all time lineup
Curry (not magic)
JOrdan
Bird
KG and Shaq.. all off ball, no ball stoppers except for mayb jordan..
but my top five GREATEST players
Jordan/bird THEN Magic and Kareeem.. then Kobe or Lebron or shaq or whatever.. dujcan.
He was great at everything except maybe dribbling. Passing rebounding, play making, scoring. He just knew where everyone was on the floor and like you said he out hustled his opponents.
dribbling means you stop the ball. unless you a pg, and even then, over dribbling is a cancer to the team. quick crisp passes will beat a guy dribbling the ball 10 seconds of the shot clock any day.
and im a pg that dribbles a lot lol.. im not very good at off ball movement. i feel more comfortable controlling the ball, breaking down the defense and setting others up or scoring my self off of iso situations, than cutting, catching the pass and finishing... not very effecient, but im a playground baller.
