Hello Peter, there are no comments on your website so just a big thank you. It's technical and inspirational. Keep up :)

@Peter Verdone Loved the lecture! I'm a young builder and I love to listen to people who have done this stuff for years. And although I never agree with all of their opinions, I always find something new to take note of. I think there is still a lot to experiment and figure out in bike geometry, especially with cargo bikes, the field which I am most interested in. Colin Woof is the first person I've seen to try a 90 degree headtube angle with a reverse rake fork, basically achieving the caster effect without any wheel flop. And everybody told him how dangerous it would be, but he built it and says it's riding better than anything else. I admire the people who are bold enough to challenge the industry's marketing driven standards.

    Loved it!
Had heard from Peter in the past as I also skateboard (still do). But I also raced BMX in the 80's and MTB'd in the 90's and what he's saying I fully agree, always thought of many of the points he makes. Glad I found someone that thinks like me but has had a chance to play and experiment with building the stuff I only dreamed of :)

I've spotted a couple of gravel/touring cyclists who use their stems backwards to shorten their reach for drop bars... but for aggressive mountain biking where a riders' mass is stretched out on the bike and often pressed forward on the bars, isn't it proven to be more stable when that force is applied to the upper steering zone? Even if it's only by a few mm. I've recently switched to bars with 15 degree back sweep on a 26mm stem as a small experiment, and I can't say I'd want to shift my hand position any further back when riding through the rough stuff!
I've never thought to try my stem backwards. I can only imagine that it would feel stable on a frame where my pedals are way out in front of me and I'm leaning waaaay back on descents.

You would have to build a frame around it. Simply changing stems is not the same concept.

You know the bicycle industry is getting thirsty when they invite the guy who's never had a bike ridden by anyone but himself give you a "lecture" on design.

I'll be sure to communicate your concerns to all of the professional framebuilders that I've designed parts for and advised on modern bike design.

@@pverdone no problem, more than happy to point out all the self important egos in the “professional” frame building world. Including those that exalt themselves to some sort of appointed authority because “I built a thing once, the top tube broke while I was riding down a dirt path, but I’m a professional you know!”

Hey Peter, do you offer some counterpart to your potential tester ?
Because what young generations are good at to, beside taking selfie and eating avocado toast, is not willing to be exploited as their parent where .
Every job deserve a counterpart. Even the coolest one's.
