I did a Centroid CNC conversion on a small milling machine about 10 years ago. At the time, I selected a Hitachi SJ200 drive to power the spindle motor from my 240v single phase power source (no 3 phase available). I have never been able to get the Dynamic Braking to function correctly, largely because I'm pretty sure I don't have parameters set correctly. Hitachi does NOT make it easy to understand how to determine and set those parameters. It is for that reason I am going to spend the money to replace that drive with an Automation Direct GS20 series VFD. (I will be able to re-use the Hitachi on a band saw I acquired, although it will be overkill for that application)
These videos, and Automation Direct's reputation for technical support is THE reason I am going with the GS20.

Thanks for the feedback! DC Braking is on the list, and your request just bumped it up a few slots!
Meanwhile, Parameters 7.01 thru 7.04 control DC braking.

Can you telll me ,dc beaking error occurs in a vfd.the settinf is DC brake at frequency under 0.5Hz...how to prevent that error

    • @automationdirect

Are you trying to use the DC Brake to stop the motor? DC braking should only be used to hold the motor still after it has stopped moving, it should not be used to stop the motor. Dynamic Braking (sometimes called "regen braking") is for quickly stopping a motor with a lot of inertia.
If DC Braking is getting in the way, look at parameters P07.01 through P07.04 (Assuming you are using a GS20(X) drive) and adjust accordingly.

At 4:05 in the tutorial, I see a DC braking video mentioned, however I can't seem to track it down in the playlist. Where can I find information on the DC braking setup for this drive?

Hi Chris, It's on our "To Do" list, but haven't gotten to it yet. Your feedback will help push it up the priority list. Thanks!
Meanwhile, search the user manual for "DC Brake" - You will see all the pertinent parameters. User Manual is here: cdn.automationdirect.com/static/manuals/gs20m/gs20m.pdf
