- If you love Bushcraft , Woodcraft and carving then this is the project for you. When using this notched frame design it can be used for any camp furniture. A bed, table chair, stool or even large scale it can be a frame for a shelter.
Great demo of some very useful concepts. Camp furniture can be time consuming to make but is sooooo nice to have once it is done.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it Lonnie!
Hey lonnie! fellow Alaskan here, i love your content, much appriciated! keep up the good work.
Most people do bushcraft for survival but you do it for camping. Thats why youre the best.
Absolutely brother. I do it because I love machetes, saws, cutting carving and chopping.
camping is supposed to be fun and comfortable
What Dave says at the beginning is what makes his channel so great. *He loves what he does. * And it is that love that comes over in his videos and makes them so addictive.
I might never get round to following many of Dave's ideas, but just watching him demonstrate them himself is encouraging for facing other challenges in life.
Thank you my friend! I do love doing this stuff!
I'm a carpenter by trade and I still learn so much from you, thank you for sharing your knowledge of bushcraft. Never forget how amazing you are and only the best of luck in all things.
Thank you Charles and that's fantastic to hear that my friend!
Old video, but I'm looking around for table and chair options to build at my camp....and I've decided to copy yours because no cordage and its very bushcrafty. Awesome. Thanks for sharing, keep up the good work!
Fantastic to hear that Brother! Anything with joints instead of cordage is extremely bushcrafty! Thanks for watching man
That looked so fun...up until the slicing of the thumb! It happens to the best of us. It is so true, no matter how good you are you will suffer a cut at some point. And when it happens after years of experience you realize how dumb you were and learn another lesson, to remember knife safety and to slow down. Thanks for showing your mistakes and not editing them out. It helps those that are learning to realize that everyone makes mistakes but to not give up and keep practicing.
Its always fun and games until someone bleeds. Lol. And youre right, anyone can get cut. Especially if in a hurry. I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for watching
Never boring, thanks for sharing. I learn from every video you do. Thanks David.
Thanks! And its always great to hear that my friend.
Ouch, that had to hurt. Everyone come on and give Dave a bloody thumbs up. Thanks for the insight on wilderness furniture. Keep on bushcrafting and watch the thumbs. God bless.
Oh yes, man did it ever hurt! I'm glad you liked it, thanks for watching and may God bless you too James
Most informative channel on youtube!
Thanks!
Agreed. Now as far as winter survival goes Survival Russia takes home the gold medal.
Great video! My grandma had that type of wood furniture on her old homestead. Gonna make a table this weekend 👍.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. That's so cool your Grandma had this style of furniture!
Careful, that 'chet looks sharp...oops.
You are so right, an accident can happen to anyone at any time, that is why having a first aid kit is so important.
Good video Dave, thanks for the post.
Funny thing, I keep it razor sharp so I won't get cut! I'm happy you liked it, thanks for watching
I really needed this video again. I've been studying about woodworking and building my tool collection, and this week I've focused on videos about making dovetails. When I noticed one of the half dovetails on the end of a piece of wood, I thought, "Hey, can't I baton that?" I guess not, but that's when I decided to find this video. And I'm tired of measuring wood. I knew you wouldn't make me do that. lol
This is the right place for learning! Lots of good ideas for manual woodworking here on CZcams
You know it's a good day when there's a new video from Reallbigmonkey1, thanks David.
Always great to hear that!
Agreed! 👍🏽👍🏽
DAM RIGHT BROTHER. ALWAYS LOOKING FORWARD TO SEE HIM.
Ouch !! Nice bandage !! Awesome furniture building idea !! Thanks !!
It actually send a pain up my arm! Thanks for watching Pam
Get it checked then. That is not a good sign and look to see if you have a stripe going up your forearm because that's blood poisoning! You probably know that though.
I'm always very safe with my cutting tools... last weekend I cut my thumb trying to open a beef jerky package.... it was a good reminder of the power of uncle Mike's beef jerky
Totally worth it in the end
Ah man, thats some powerful stuff!
Now that chair is epic! Thanks for showing us comon folks.
I'm glad you liked it and thanks for watching brother!
This was probably the BEST Bushcraft Video i have seen in the past 2 Years on CZcams.
Thank you and i hope your Thump is getting better soon.
Greetings from Germany 😊
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it that much! As far A's I know I think this is the only video on this frame style. Thanks for watching!
that was awesome dude. thank you for showing this to us. I will definitely make some of these to go around my fire pit out back. this is truly awesome!
I'm glad you liked it John and its great youre gonna make one! Thanks for watching
I'm rewatching this from a while back. Still love it. Thanks Dave!
Thank you Joel!
Thank you for all you do!
Oh my - a great video less the blood and gore !! LOL
Now we have Dave's Bushcraft "Lincoln Logs" - I love it
Tx Dave
LOL I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for watching Dr. Ron!
I aint lying Id put that in my ole home place! If a fellow or fellowette took their time, they could make some beautiful furniture like this. Thanks for the video man, sorry about the cut, but like you said, those things will happen if you mess with it long enough. Thumbs up Brother Dave!~John
Thanks brother John! Man if well built, this can actually look like custom furniture. Sad to say, I'm getting used to being cut! If I remember right you live in Florida? I hope you're in a safe place away from Irma
Reallybigmonkey1 Yes Sir. And this is the first time in 27 years that I want be out in the middle of it. I get to sit this one out. Thanks Brother.
Excellent channel and excellent video !
This one is going on my list as a futur project for the semi permanent shelter... thank you very much for the perfectly clear and entertaining instructions !!!
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it that much Andre! Thanks for watching
Another good one,way better than Ikea!
Thanks Dave.
LOL, thanks Cal!
One and a half thumbs up.... oh wait, I found the leftover... Two thumbs up!!! :D You're the man. Great video. Thanks! +Like
LOL! Thanks!
Hi, you are a great person. Full positive energy. All the best ;) I apologize for my English
Thank you Josef!
LOL we were planing on making some stuff tomorrow. Thanks for your advice I posted his video from last week.
Now you have some more plans for projects!
I bugged out to wait out Irma. If I don't have a home to return to, those woodcraft skills could come in handy.
Another fine video, Dave! Thanks for sharing!
Hope for the best and prepare for the worst. I do hope you have a home to return to. I'm glad you liked it and Thanks for watching
Reallybigmonkey1 ; Thanks man!
Dave you have the most amicable personality. Keep up the good work brother.
Thanks! Lots more to come
Yo, thanks for the film. It's nice bro, I'm here drawing pictures of ideas and thoughts and I got company from a dude across the planet that does the same type of things.
Keep em coming....!!!
You are very welcome brother. Now you have more project to jot down and try!
Very cool Project! This is a fantastic technique. Thanks a lot for showing. Greets from the Pocket Knife Felix
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it that much!
This video has over a thousand views it is 4 years or more old,I’ve watched it 4 to 5 times it is great! I have it saved and want to make me a bed some day out of it. Thanks for this video!
Fantastic to hear that my friend! Make one any chance you can
Yaaaaayyyyyy! A new Dave in the Woods video!!
Aint that neat?
Hey Dave! Great to see you again! Loved this video. Thanks for the great ideas! That saw eats through some wood, Silky gumboy?
Hello David! I'm glad you liked it. Brother that Silky is like a hand powered chainsaw!
Silky Gomboy 270 coarse blade. Fine blade is for hard wood. I found that out the hard way. Fine blade takes forever on soft wood.✏📏🔨😊⚓🇺🇸
Brilliant frame design and another great vid! Thanks!!
Shame about your finger though. Keep it dry and clean!
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it that much
Thank you for teaching us how to make furniture. Sorry you cut your thumb. I may never have need of it but at least I know how to do it now. You are an excellent teacher. Every step of the way you made it plain as day. God bless your heart.
you are very welcome Patricia and I'm glad you liked it. I rarely get cut, funny how when I do its on camera! Thanks for watching
What a trouper! An injury didn’t stop you from finishing your video! Bravo!
I had to finish! Thanks for watching Marci
@@Reallybigmonkey1 Always!
some nice connection's you showed Dave
well detailed filmed
just one thing that red clowns nose ,is not for on your thumb lol
atb
steve
Thanks Steve! LOL, man thats all the tape I had. A band aid wont work when trying to build stuff.
ah man : I wish you had put a different colour dressing on your thumb,
every time I looked at it my man parts clenched.. lol.. great video Dave, you take care brother...
LOL, sorry about that. That red tape was all I had. It would have been impossible to do all this wood working with just a band aid! I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for watching
dsldg2, You poor thing!
Reallybigmonkey1, next time tell us that's red tape! It was 5 minutes before I figured that it was tape and not blood soaked bandages. xoxo from Arizona
I'm glad that I saw this video so late. At least I know that Dave has recovered from injury 👍and made many great videos since the accident.
"Remember safety first 👍"
(I wish I could change the colour of the thumb on the emoji)
Lol, emoji thumb is yellow. Thanks for watching
Excellent job, very cool project! Thank you Dave, & Nick!
Thanks Ronald, I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for watching
well , I hate you cut your thumb , sheesh , it was a bad slice no doubt , , yeah , , that hurt , prolly needed a stitch or two , but you toughed it out , , so I thank you for the excellent video :-)
Man I hated it too. It really hurt! Not stitches, it finally healed ok.
I was thinking that maybe the sap from the branches is getting built up in the sheath. Just a thought.
PS I hope those people down in Florida watched your swamp tips :) My Mom is there so I really wish everyone the best of luck with this.
well , the bad thing about cutting a finger is that every time you put your hand in your pocket it tends to bust it back open , sheesh , hurts like hell and takes forever to heal.
wnchillbilly1 ain’t that the truth!
Around 18 min in ... I was concerned we'd see the foot get it next! Just found your channel - that laugh is contagious! Love your content! 👍😃👍
That is so freaking awesome thanks for sharing.
Thanks!
Another AWESOME video, thank you Dave .I can't wait to try this.
I'm happy you liked it John!
Absolutely love your videos!! Can't wait to watch this tonight!
Thanks, I'm glad you like em Tony!
FIRST!!! WEIGHT, WEIGHT, WEIGHT.............I KNOW. PEOPLE ALWAYS TALK ABOUT BEING "LIGHT" WITH THEIR GEAR, BUT, I LEARNED 50 YEARS AGO THE IMPORTANCE OF "TOOLS" IN THE FIELD AND THAT'S WHY I CARRY THEM. THE WEIGHT OF MY PACK AND ASSOCIATED GEAR? 40 POUNDS WITHOUT A RIFLE, 47 POUNDS WITH MY RIFLE. THINK LIKE A PIONEER!
Yep, Carry tools. Its amazing what you can built with an axe or machete, knife and saw.
I agree I'm always tool heavy
Richard Stone That’s pretty heavy.
ric cartwright Git yerself a carpenter’s toolbelt and shove all the heavy stuff in it to lighten your pack. Works great. Plus you can ‘dump’ the whole toolset in one shot if need be. I hang mine on a tree when camp time comes. Easy on, easy off and makes the heavy weight modular.
Hey Everybody!! :)
see ya in the next one!
Hi!
Thanks for another great lesson David.
Thanks for watching Roger
Best outdoor channel no debate
Thank you my friend!
dave, are those snake gaiters that you have on?
Those are full on Rocky snake boots.
ooo those rocky snakes are worse than snow snakes... (';o) I assume the snakes are bad up there
Reallybigmonkey1, have you ever had snakes strike your boots? Do those snakes climb trees? xoxo from Arizona.
Love the honesty you show in every one of your videos. I know CZcams has changed a lot things so if you don't get to respond, don't worry. We know you appreciate your fans. God bless and keep you. Hope your boo, boo healed and that you took care of that sheath issue.
Thanks, I'm glad you like the way I do the videos. The thumb is doing much much better. Thanks for watching
Cool demo and that's a good reason to carry a good first aid kit and take a first aid class be prepared that is the old Boy Scout from 50 years ago good video as always
I'm glad you liked it and I agree 100%!
WOW! How good is that. Your the man RB, working through that pain mate. Commitment there. Thank you.
LOL, thanks Stevie. I was gonna finish the video no matter what!
Thank you for sharing your passion with us! You are a blessing!
You are very welcome and thanks for watching James
Like the table's !" Their art,.beautiful..." nice to see your creative juices flowing,too...inspiring !" Thank you,and I miss the sound of your voice,.the way you talk."real !" Please,be careful. Ouch !" God,bless you and keep you an your family safe." LOL..."👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. Im usually very careful AFTER I get cut. LOL. Thanks for watching and may God bless you too!
Excellent video Brother! Very well demonstrated. Damn man, that's a hell of a cut. I always say, it's not a broke in blade until you cut yourself with it at least once.
Great video Dave!
Thanks brother, I'm glad you liked it. Luckily or possibly unluckily only half my blades are broken in!
What a trooper...cuts himself and keeps on going...nice 👍🏻
It happened, it stayed in the video.
Hey Dave, cant wait to try that.. wouldnt mind using the table on my patio.. i pray you and your family and home are safe from Irma.. agree with man below.. its always a good day when you have a new video from Dave!!!
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. Build one when you have time. It's the most fun woods project I know. The storm will be tropical force when it hits here Tuesday
Rather than binge watch Netflix, I decided to pull up your videos to get me through hurricane Irma. Your contributions to the craft are pure awesome, and I feel like a sponge soaking up all you put out. Gotta look up that folding saw. I keep a "come home" bag for house gutting after a storm, like I had to do after Katrina, and that saw would have helped a lot. Thanks Dave!
Fantastic to hear you like the videos that much! I hope Irma wasn't too rough on you. She's bringing rain and high winds to me now. That saw is a Silky Gomeboy 210
I'm actually on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, well out of range, but keeping tabs on the storm for family, friends, and work purposes. Hope she passes quickly for you, and that you don't have to deal with any flooding. I'm goning to look up the saw, so thanks for the tip! It looks like just the right size and good quality.
OK, I was at first thinking that this was like a 6 story outhouse... But the whole concept is really cool. I was thinking that with some power tools, and store bought wood DUDE! Impressive!!
Thanks Curt!
Thank you for sharing. Interesting video. Love rustic furniture. My Dad used to make garden benches and tables when I was a boy. Took me back 50 years. Now 68. Thanks for good memories. Look forward to next video.
You are very welcome and I'm glad you liked it. Very cool it brought back memories of your dad. Once our loved ones are gone all we have are memories.
Safety third. It happens but you were resilient and pushed through to make the video and did a great job.
Lol, I'm glad you liked it Richard
Love choppin' and cravin'. Beautiful
Fantastic to hear that my friend!
Brilliant idea. Makes for a good modular system as well. Make a whole bunch of them and then combine them in whatever configurations are needed. Mecano style. Cheers Dave.
Thanks Allan, I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for watching
Perfect furniture for a kids play house. Thanks for sharing with us.
Oh yes, kids love this kinda stuff! Thanks for watching Lu-Lu
I love your skills and your accent. Hey, I’m a yankee but was actually born in Texas. One day(s) I’d be happily obliged to spend some time in the woods with you.
Thanks Jon! Believe it or not, my dad was born on Long Island New York!
HI DAVE, I HAVE BEEN WATCHING YOUR VIDS FOR A SPELL AND I HAVE FINALLY FIGURED HOW TO GET TO SOME OF THE FIRST ONES. THEY ARE CHARMING.
Sounds great Pam! Theres a lot of good stuff covered in the older ones.
Thank you Dave! Finally had time to watch this.
Thanks for watching my friend!
I love your videos on this stuff. I am planning on buying some land just so I can go out and make this for myself along with a cabin. You rock!
Thanks Deborah and that sounds great!
😳😱 definitely one of your more, ah exciting videos. Glad your thumb healed. Whew! I sliced my palm the other day with one of the kitchen cleavers I was cleaning after using it to chop up wax for the mushroom logs. Not as bad as your thumb!
What an amazing chair project, I’m going to give this a go. Worth the time for sure, and you know what they say, a chair is only as good as the seat that’s in it. 😁
Thanks! Oh, hate to hear about your hand. Cuts are all a part of being a blade user! I'm glad you liked my chair
Bushcraft is a wider spectrum of things these days i think myself its a awesome thing to know.
Oh yes, it is a very wide set of skills that can come in handy at any time
Thumbs up on video no punt intended. Another great video
LOL, thanks for the thumbs up!
Living vicariously through you! One awesome dude!
Thanks Karen!
For a long-term absolutely keep the Mind Body and hands occupied. very cool man!
Very well said!
Dave, you are one tenacious teacher. This made me think of high school wood shop as a kid. The teacher insisted on everything going together with locking or binding joints. There wasn't a nail or screw in the entire shop. Coincidentally, he cut a finger off, so I'd say you are ahead of him after cutting your thumb, you still have it! Looks handy for hitch hiking too, or passing verdict on gladiator fights. I hope the storms miss you and your family and nobody has to suffer damage, loss or injury.
Thanks Sean. Man he sounds like my kinda woodworker! Irma will be a tropical storm when it hits my area so I'm hoping for minimal damages
Really nice table. Hope your thumb heals up soon. But a really good test of the table would be a table dance. LOL. Turn on the ladies. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. LOL, good thing I don't know how to dance.
Aaaand relax :) not much more pleasing to see after a hard day of web geekery work than to find Dave has uploaded a vid. Happy Weekend Sir & thanks for the bushcarpentry knowledge ;)
I'm happy you found it relaxing. Not much beats unwinding in the woods
i liked your video because you showed anyone can hurt themselves with sharp tools
Thanks. Absolutely, any one can get cut at any time
Thanks Dave !! Another great video !!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing, I hope you heal fast. You looked a bit shaken by it. It happens to the best of us. Just have to sit down catch your breath and deal with it. I love the project. I'm going to try it out myself. all the best. Dave.
I'm always happy to share. I guess more shocked than anything. The three deepest cuts I've ever experienced came from unsheathing blades, not from using them. Give this frame a go. You will love it
Wow, that was an awesome chair or table. Thanks for the video. Hope your thumb healed up.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it Michael! The thumb healed up well
Another great video. One of my favourites. Lee of the U.K.
Thanks Lee, I'm glad you liked it that much. Thanks for watching
Very nice video on furniture making my brother!
This notch has really lot of applications and it also looks pretty nice!
Thank you for sharing!
Stay safe and have fun!
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it. Yep, this notch has a lot of uses and it makes on incredible cordage free shelter frame! Thanks for watching brother
How cool is that!!! Thanks Dave!!!
Thanks Kelly!
Another great production Dave.
Thank you my friend!
Unique bushcraft video at always!!!
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it
Gezz Dave I was shocked to see your thumb , But you did surprise us the way you showed your thumb, and I'm a nurse.
Oh believe me, that incident shocked me too!
For you carving where your knife would get into the ground, you could split a short, wide half round from a bigger diameter downed log and press the rounded side down into the duff/ground and have a nice flat surface to rest your work so you keep the knife blade out of the dirt or possible rocks. Hope that makes sense. That’s a great piece of furniture you made. Professor Dave scores another win!
That's a good idea McCoy! I'm glad you liked it and thanks for watching
Well-done Dave. Nice work and nice technique. Hope you have a speedy recovery.
Thanks Jim!
I use a knife machete and pocket saw thx for the bush craft work
Honestly survival is all about feeling comfortable where you are a goodnight sleep is key for any human if i was stuck on island for years i like to have a chair, bed table to relaz with
Some argue and say it's too much work but I agree with you. Make it as comfortable as possible and get good sleep
Good Vid Dave! Thank you for sharing!
I'm happy you liked it, thanks for watching my friend
Great job David! Take care of that cut.
Thanks brother!
Hello David, you know, boo boo`s occur. I cut my finger when I was sharpening my mower blades one time and I hit a major artery. It just would not stop spurting blood. I wrapped my whole finger with electricians tape, hauled my butt over to the emergency clinic to see about it. I sat there, waiting for some attention, and the bleeding stopped. I got up and went home and saved myself about $300. Electricians tape is the bestest band aid there is. Your red tape was probably real close. Thanks for the video. I have a stand of aspen on my property. That wood is very attractive when you split it. I am going to look into making a four poster bed frame out of that wood. Your technique gives me some real inspiration. Be well. Joe
Hello Joe! Ah man thats a bad cut! The Aspen sounds great! If you want to make it really nice, saw all the joints then carve the inserts larger and hand match each one. If the wood is slightly green you can beat it together and when it dries it will never come apart! I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for watching.
I love the woodcraft, this way you can make long term bush furniture ! Thanks David.
The real beauty of it is if you have a permanent shelter you can fill it with furniture based on just this frame. Thanks for watching Brother
Great video as always. Thank you for sharing with us.
Thanks Roland! I'm glad you liked it
I just like thank you you make me smile. you can make any day a good day
Thanks Jackie!
you reinvented Lincoln logs ,,lol.
good video dave .
..bill
Lincoln logs for adults! LOL. Thanks for watching Billy.
Another great video Dave I'd like to go camping someday and learn your tricks!
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it Carl! Brother I have all kinds of cool tricks. Thanks for watching.
Great video I love the idea of those frames. Would of watched it earlier, but Irma came for a visit and had to have everything organized. I think hurricane Irma is suppose to be coming your way. Be safe.
Thanks Nancy, I'm glad you liked it. Irma has come and gone and we are still in one piece! Thanks for watching
Thank you Sir I enjoyed every minute of it. Hope that thumb healed up nicely
I'm glad you liked it Joe! It too awhile but it healed up well!
Very cool Dave. Those connections are great no nails or glue needed. ATB Opal
Thanks Opal, I'm happy you liked it
