    I've owned and loved a R1100RS, a K1200RS, and am now on my 2nd R1250RS. Outstanding bikes; glad to see BMW finally giving more out to reviewers to get the word out. Best damn BMW nobody has heard of.

      @@motomogul They're hard to find new on a sales floor anywhere in max trim. I looked for months, then decided to order one. Dealer lied about delivery date, I quit waiting and found a barely used one in Florida. Bought it over the phone and had it shipped to me. Totalled it 3 weeks later and immediately found another one in similar condition in Arizona. This time I flew out there and rode it back to Milwaukee.
      Two weeks later I was at the dealer picking up some bits and bobs, and the bike I had ordered in February had finally arrived -- in September. It sold the very next day, over the phone from a guy from Indiana who saw it online. Those who are into this kind of bike I think know how really well BMW have done with this bike. Over 90 years of perfecting an engine design on a platform that created a whole new market segment that's been in production for 47 years.
      Could use a better-designed front end that produces less wind buffeting. Worst of all the RSes I've owned; I don't know anyone who keeps the stock windshield because of it. But otherwise? ... [chef's kiss]

    "If you are not going to offroad your GS, buy this", and I did...via an RNineT and F750GS prior to that. I went to the dealership to buy some oil and I saw the RS last August, swung a leg over and....the rest is history! It is a beautiful bike, I've had several people comment on its looks when I fill up with gas (petrol). The only thing not available last year was the ECO mode and seat heating, I have all the other nice tech bits you mention. I did add bar risers and a larger screen for touring because I'm 168 cm tall and the stock screen made my tinnitus roar, but all summer the short screen is back on its lowest screw attachments - gives a delightful naked bike feel (with ear plugs). A thrilling machine and I loved your review and positive feedback on the unassuming, often overlooked bike of the BMW lineup.

    I bought the RS because of 1) looks 2) low down COG 3) Not doing off-road on a 250kg bike 3) handling 4) I can get my feet down. I love it. I've swapped the bars for Wunderlich, put an MRA Vario screen on, and bare-end mirrors. It's the best bike I've ever had.

    I was very happy to find one second hand last year with 4000 mi on it. I love it. I did just order some helibars for it, but the reach is not bad without them either. If I didn’t have shoulder surgery, I might not have changed it. I’ve put 5000 of my own miles on mine, and upgraded the tires to road 6gt’s. Super great bike, probably my last one.

    While a snowstorm has been howling outside my window, I have really enjoyed your easy commentary that didn't try to bury me with details. I also liked reading your TFT as you moved along. After 3 RSs beginning in 1988 (2 Ks and 1 R and 100k+ miles), I've been off-roading for the last 7 years (48k miles with a DL650XT. I was good enough, I suppose, but I freely admit preferring a sport touring experience. So last Oct, I picked up a '21 1250RS. Now I truly feel at home and am super impressed with all it has to offer this 78-year-old.! Kinda like having a FWB with "the milf of sport-tourers!" Thanks again.

    Deserving praise for the RS. You comments are spot on. I can understand the visceral appeal of the GS for some, but as a pure on-road machine the RS is superb. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I often wonder how many GS's actually go seriously off road anyway.

      @ericrichards6252 Před rokem

      Not many go off road, mate. Don’t believe the sales brochures about going through swollen rivers or summiting Everest on one. These guys are pro-racers, X-Dakar etc. 99% of riders end up in ditches or in ravines - too big and heavy. On saying that, I’ve got a GS12 and love it 😊

    • @Bazza47
      @Bazza47 Před rokem

      The GS is better for a pillion and has better wind protection and I have found the 3 I've had to be very comfortable. However.... I'm getting on a bit and only 5'7" so have test ridden the 1250R and 1250RS, both of which are far easier to handle at low speeds than the GS. I'm surprised the salesman let you out of the showroom 😂 I got a cost to change trading in my 2020 low milage 1250 GS TE Exclusive against a new 1250RS SE sport with the tubular bars, luggage rack and heated grips and was pleasantly surprised at the figures as the cost of a new GS TE is now considerably more than the RS so residuals for used GS's reflect this. So if you can do without the acro, klewless ride and tyre pressure monitoring you might be pleasantly surprised/tempted/thinking what you're going to tell SWMBO. I find it's easier to receive forgiveness than get permission.......

  • @MickBla
    @MickBla Před rokem +1

    Hi! Very nice review 👌🏻 I do own the RS (albeit the R1200RS SE version). Also in love with it! Just one point to mention in sort of GS's defence... GS due to its industrial (tank like) design is not going to suffer much in case of accidental drops / falls. We did some touring last year and the friend of mine dropped his GS on Stelvio (with all the luggage, etc...). The boxes took the impact so well, that the damage wasn't even visible. Now, I was contemplating how my plastic RS luggage would cope with it... and I'm sure the problem would have been bigger. Also the side stand... RS sits very upright on the side stand and on a few occasions it was seriously difficult to comfortably leave the bike parked on the trip ( known fault) - no such issue for my RS colleagues. The wind noise (plenty of different screens/deflectors available). Neck pain ... bar reisers to the rescue 😂. One question... the Ram mount you've used on the handlebar... what is it? Do you think it can be attached to the RS mirror extension? Thanks, and all the best 👍🏻

    An excellent enthusiastic review of the RS, the only bug bare I find is how much more expensive these bikes are by the time you spec them up with all the trimmings. Still the same can be said of most manufacturers these days. It is a lovely looking bike and looks as though it handles effortlessly but not one I would ever see myself owning. The Rocket gets its annual service next Saturday and a quick shifter fitted, that should make it even more fun if that's possible 😀

      BMW definitely do this as a tactic. The price of the base model is reasonable, but the test bike you'll ride will be totally spec'd up (with their different 'packs') Don't think that BMW build quality is the best...it isn't...I've owned lots of BMW's (6) and their build quality has declined. I had a new RT, and a new GS and both had serious problems. The dealer and BMW argued over who was going to sort it. Front wheel bearings gone at 7,000 miles! I got fed up and now ride a 1995 K1100LT which is faultless.
      I want this 1250RS but for that price I want excellent build quality, reliability and great dealer and brand service. My R1100S ranks as in my top 10 of my 78 bikes.

    It’s a beautiful bike. With a charm that the GS can’t achieve but the seat on the GS is larger and for the pillion more comfortable also. The suspension I believe is a more forgiving feature on the Gs even on road (once that the RS can’t go off-road anyway) and the maneuvering in low speeds, the angle of turn is different too, I think easier on the GS despite the height of the bike. The wind protection is better also on the GS but on the RS you’re not in the same body position, we’re a little more leaned over the front and on the bars, maybe the protection effect from the wind is similar. The more aerodynamic shape of the RS will play a part in that chapter of riding experience too. There’s only one way to know which bike would suit you better:- owning both for a while and verify where you feel happier riding 👌🏻

I had an R1200R a few years ago, also excellent but not as comfy as the GS. Ok, there's a lot of them around and my mates take the piss, but I can keep up with anyone and there's a reason why there are so many around. I'm pretty sure you'll love it.

    After 7 years on 1200/1250 GS'I'm about to get my RS SE next week. It has most of the things you need over the standard RS (Dynamic and Touring packs included, but not the Comfort pack so no keyless, TPMS, heated grips or chrome silencer) but you can add those separately if you want them. I was VERY surprised just how little it cost me to change from my low mileage 2020 1250GS. Main reasons for change were I no longer carry a pillion, never go offroad and being undertall and getting on a bit the GS is getting a bit of a handful, plus being an undertall umpah lumpah it's a lot easier to ride at low speeds/filtering etc. I will miss the wind protection of the GS but for £150ish the MRA Vario screen will sort that. I'm having the tubular bars with the low seat too as being short I found the reach to the bars just a tad too far and at 820mm the standard seat although ok left me feeling like I was sat on rather than in the bike. So although not GS comfy it should be a nice bike and at around 5k cheaper than an equivelent replacement for my GS it seems a bit of an overlooked bargain and if I have to do a few more mods then the "bargain" price will still leave me with loads of wonga left. I did like the Akrapovich but not the £910 price! I did go for the heated grips, but not the seat as I already have a heated vest. You should really ask your friendly dealer about the cost to change😂 and in the sports colours ❤

      If you stick to driving mainly on the roads and not so much off roads, the RS will be much more efficient and agile compared to the GS.

I looked at the Suzuki GSX1000GT and a few other bikes but nothing could temp me to swap … I’d always fancied the RS , couldn’t see the point in a GS … but then I thought ‘put handle bar risers on a RS’ … so that’s what I did and no regrets whatsoever … comfortable , more than enough power in reality , power shift gears .. Motorrad satnav .. yes it’s a twin ( I bought a new Suzuki TL1000R years ago and learnt to ride a twin as opposed to a four ) but it’s actually rather smooth and I enjoy it .. I know people say it has lots of torque but the K1200S wasn’t exactly something you ever asked for more of that and I can’t say I really notice any difference apart from the RS behaves itself whilst the K was forever heading for 3 digit numbers on how fast constable dial … all in all this is my forever bike and I smile at all the GS riders going the long way round to Tescos who bought the wrong bike 😂

    I got one 12 months ago. Since having it I hardly ride my 2022 S1000r which is actually a superb road bike. The R 1250 RS may not be as quick but the boxer engine has more punch and the RS is so much more comfortable which is very handy on some of the terrible roads near my home. It also seems to be more of a premium product than the s1000r. It's beautifully made. It has 2 problems. A horrible exhaust and a windscreen that dumps air on your chest in the low setting and blasts your helmet and is extremely noisy in the high setting. I fixed the exhaust by getting a Fuel muffler that just sounds fantastic and seems to be extremely well made. All at a fraction of the price of an Akrapovic which I don't think sounds as good. The windscreen problem has been helped by the use of a wind deflector.

      I own a R1250R and testrode it and a R1250RS multiple times back-to-back before buying the R. I found the ergonomics on the RS a bit too aggressive (compared to the R, which has just a slight forward lean). The wheelbase (and rake) on the RS is also a bit longer, which combined with the ergos, results in a heavier, less nimble feel, especially in corners…takes more input. Those are the primary two reasons why I chose the R over the RS, even though I originally went into the dealership to try/buy the RS. Me: 6’1”, 34” inseam.

  • @feloniousmonk3049
    @feloniousmonk3049 Před 7 měsíci

    I would have bought a RS, but at 6'5" tall with a 36" inseam, the seat to foot pegs was too small for me, as well as too bent over like a sport bike, I'd need 4 " risers with at least 2 " of pullback, to help out my lower back. The anti dive on the telelever forks is also superior to the forks on this RS, as well as the suspension more plush, smoother, on bumpy roads. Proud owner of a US model 1250 GS Trophy 2 weeks now. Do NOT ever test ride a BMW if you don't have money in hand. Not good for the finances!

    • @motomogul
      @motomogul  Před 7 měsíci

      I agree, for someone of your height the RS would seem really small. I think the telelever suspension isn’t really necessary for a sports tourer having shorter travel through the forks and stiffer suspension anyway the dive wasn’t a worry for me. Glad you’re loving the Trophy. The GS in all its forms is a supreme ride, I tried to resist buying mine but in the end my head and eventually my heart were in full agreement. I’m yet to ride another machine that ticks enough boxes to take over from my GS. 👍

    • @motomogul
      @motomogul  Před 11 měsíci

      I’m pretty sure the SE stands for Special Equipment. The bike I rode was the demo model from the franchise so had a decent spec level. I think it’s just a UK thing, adding the letters to the end of the description gives you bragging rights to your mates as the dealership adds equipment to the bike so it’s a standard for that designation. They do the same thing with cars. The Germans just buy the bikes/cars and add what they want to spec their bikes without having the designation letters. Hope this helps? Either was it’s a superb machine, hope you enjoy it 👍
