Wendy O. Williams = Real Deal. Her insights, observations, & wisdom about society (connected or disconnected, fails or triumphs etc) are still valid today. She is missed.

I love Tom..He gave every underground act do his show without judgement. He was just the fucking coolest guy. Gave everyone a fair chance.
He was a true original right up there with Johnny Carson. Some of the current late show hosts don't really seem to have that wow factor like Tom Snyder.

Really. I didn't hear him ask a single intelligent question. Was he completely unaware of what Pete Townshend was doing in 1965? Obviously. He was pig ignorant. And if he hadn't had the new wave of groups on the show then someone else would have replaced him.. *should* have replaced him. He asks the same tired old question about "becoming the establishment" that he asked all the other bands on the programme. He didn't have an insight into rock n roll culture at all. It could've been Elvis 1956 and Snyder would have trotted out the same cliches.
It was worth staying up late to watch Tom Snyder. He had all kinds of guests, musicians, politicians and entertainers. Wendy was a fascinating person.

I agree, Tom was cool to Wendy and didn't use her as a side show for their talk show ratings. She actually stood for something and what she did was her art, and she was damn good at doing what she did.
I've seen her on other talk shows like Sally Jessie and I think it was some "View" type of show where they only had her on to attack her, and that was total bullshit.

I still think it's strange that she did that when she loved so many different things. It wasn't only music. She loved animals. She had a cause or two she stood up for and against. She lived a vegan lifestyle, or way of life. She worked out intensely. She didn't smoke or drink or do drugs. She wasn't poor. Nothing adds up at all. She goes out into some wooded area on her property and feeds the squirrels and bang ?.
Saw this band live in a local club back in the day. It was awesome.
I really and truly miss her. She was a real force to be reckoned with, and just a total sweetheart.

Yes, my friend, you are right.... I was 16 years old back in 1980, Wendy & The Plasmatics, were the most extreme manifestation in music. There was no Metallica, Trash, Speed or Black metal....All of that bands owe respect and recognition to her, I never read about mention Wendy as a pioneer.

The way Tom Synder was speaking to Wendy, "Quiet it down just a little bit..." reminded me of my high school guidance counselor in the 1970s who wanted me to "quiet it down just a little bit" and not wear my leather jacket with pins on it to school (in order to get along better with the other kids). Uh ... NO!
Wendy O. Williams was a first-hand role model for me back then (and a very nice person, I got to meet her a few times and she loved her fans!) I'm incredibly blessed to have discovered The Plasmatics at a young age. One of the shows I went to wearing a Catholic uniform, like Wendy did. ... It would be super fun if she were around today, perhaps destroying smart phones. Ha! RIP to an original, way ahead of her time.

I saw the Plasmatics once with my brother at the Uptown Theatre in Kansas City, Missouri. It was a great show, but I remember my ears ringing for 45 minutes after the show was over.

Yeah for me it was the Descendants everything sucks album warped tour. I was standing right in front of the amp like a stupid kid.

45 minutes? My ears were ringing for a week straight after seeing Motörhead for the first time. That was where my tinnitus started.
Oh man, I remember staying up late to watch this in my youth and I was stunning! No one was even close to this band in terms of intensity. You just sat there with your jaw open going, "no fucking way!"
I absolutely loved the Plasmatics, and saw them twice, but the truth is that were a lot of bands back then that were not only just as intense, but a few that were even more intense. One of those bands dates all the way back to the late 60’s (The Stooges). Anyway at this time, punk had been going strong for about 5 years, and the bands just kept upping the ante with their energy levels and intensity. This was ‘81. I saw more hardcore shows than I could count that year, and though most of those bands didn’t engage in all the shock tactics that the Plasmatics did, they were definitely at the very least just as intense, if not more. Some of those gigs erupted into full blown riots, and spilled out of the venues and on to the street. *THOSE* were intense.
You can almost hear the director in the control room screaming, 'Camera 2, pan out! Quick, quick!'
I was in Jr. High when this was on. My parents couldn't understand it, and to be honest about the punkest I got was the Ramones, but I respected Wendy as a human (A damn smart one at that) and I loved Snyder's show, even at 13.
That's one show they'll never forget. Must have been awesome to be in that audience!

I admit I know very little of the Plasmatics. Always has the impression Wendy was this screwed up strung out figure. Shes very articulate actually and has this positive vibe to her. I get the idea now that she was trying to deconstruct not to destroy but to create a change. In my book that gives their music more purpose.
Its funny, back then this group was considered radical and crazy. And to some not in a good way. Yet compared to the inane inarticulate fairly ignorant displays now, she seems very intelligent. Seems weve deconstructed but not changed for the better. Sorry Wendy.

Tom does have a point though, this kind of mentality influenced me to smash some things up when I was drunk and ended up punching a window and severing all the tendons in my right wrist and had to get plastic surgery to reattach them, my hand will never be the same again, lucky I can still play guitar. It's still something i believe in as crazy as it is.
I don’t know for certain, but Wendy seems like she would have made a great neighbor. She’d keep to herself for the most part, spending her days tending to her garden, but you could sit in the backyard together on a summer night and exchange bread recipes. She seemed sweet, smart and too advanced for this world.
