I like that you just take it ALL apart. It can take years for some mechanics to realize that trying to quickly do the job, without taking other things apart and getting them out of the way can result in MORE time spent doing the job, as well as other parts being broken along the way. Much of the time, it is cheaper, faster and easier to do it the way you did this.
Just did a passenger side valve cover gasket on a friends Jeep Liberty after watching this video. Super helpful to see this process in advance, along with all the little things to watch out for. Saved me a lot of struggling to figure it out. Preliminary info suggests that we fixed it. Strong oil smell appears to be gone! Thanks!!!
Make sure to check your left and right crank case breather hoses (Mopar Breather Hose; Right and left). They both connect to the top of the head by the firewall on each side. The hoses crack and will leak oil out on to the exhaust causing the jeep to smell and smoke just like the valve cover gaskets are leaking. You can check them by simply remove each and see if they are cracked and oily. No tools needed.
I thought the first video was really good. This one is even better. My '04 has a slight leak, so I'll do it soon now that it's warming up. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Well done very informative and clear,in some cases releasing the power steering unit will ease removal and install of valve cover on drivers side,I would also note to remove coolent from rad.for passenger side removal of heater hoses or get a big pan ready, keep up the good work............jimmy
Finally found a clear video. Going to try and take mine out tomorrow. I hope its this easy. There's so much oil built up in mine. I might need new wires and what not. Also the back part of the t hose I have that goes towards the car came off. I think it goes to the pcv valve?
Was there any coolant coming out from the bottom hoses? Mine was shooting out and I was smart enough to put them back on before I lost too much cooling fluid
I've got a PCV valve coming in the mail and I'm really worried that hose is gonna crack on me when I replace it. I hope a hair dryer will warm it up enough
How do you release the 3 connectors that go to the 3 black connectors with a red release and are blue at the bottom below the connectors at 12:13? I changed the drivers side and broke a connector because I couldn't figure out how to release it.
You have two options, either slide them on and secure with a zip tie, or you can purchase a replacement which will need to be soldered or spliced in place of the old ones.
The jeep I'm working on has 2 PCV valves on the final hose spiderweb you put back together. The valves sit right after the boots on the end. Are these essential? The replacement part I got does not have the valves on it but it lines up and fits perfectly.
The two connections on the rear of the heads are the breathers. Some 3.7's use one breather on the passenger side and have the pcv on the driver's side rear of the head (as my dakota does and I believe post 2005 3.7's). Mine used to have the same routing as this video does, but during the winter season I was having bad emulsification issues (basically the oil vapor would condense and turn into a thick yellow slime. Same as what a blown head gasket would look like). Found a tsb on it and ordered the revision. Cheers.
@@stang2v442 Yeah my 07 Jeep Liberty has the PCV on the driver's side like you mentioned. Don't know if it's supposed to be better, but it is a BITCH replacing it. Tight space and had to use a plumber's wrench to SLOWLY screw that piece into the engine head.
I'm about to do mine I was worried it would be too difficult. I had a mechanic quote me 1500 (That's what I paid for the car) to replace :(((( So I am doing it myself. I need to get a new car but hopefully this repair will get me through the summer.
I'm working on an 08 Commander, same engine, and almost same configuration. Having huge trouble removing cover with ac hoses running along top of cover. I've moved compressor over to empty air cleaner box to get out of way. Problem is ac lines mount to hi low switch mounted on firewall directly above valve cover. Can I simply disconnect ac lines? Update: well I did disconnect. But no worry. Simply reconnect the did a self recharge to refill system. Very easy. Hardest part was breaking MAF sensor off (old and cracked) Having to remove intake manifold, I had to drop engine 6" by removing passenger side motor mount bolt. Seriously MBenz.. Who designs these engine?
This is in the same vein of what I was looking for. I'm needing a valve cover gasket replacement, and my mechanic said he'd have to disconnect my ac. Having gotten used to having ac, I'm protective of it, ha.
My wifes is so caked up with oil and dirt, i assume its the valve cover (v6). Any other possible issues related to that area of concern (passenger side front valve cover area near the oil fill up tube)
The oil fill tube gasket and pcv valve are two other possibilities that come immediately to mind. I've seen the valve cover more commonly leak in the rear.
13:13 My 2007 Jeep Liberty 3.7 doesn't have the PCV on the side of that plastic oil container. On my Jeep the PCV valve it's a plastic-metal bolt piece that is located on the driver's side near the top and it is a BITCH to remove and even bigger bitch to replace back in. I don't know why they did it differently for the last year of the Jeep KJ
I hope you didnt use that "scotch brite" pad on a air powered tool on that motor, the gasket and disc material if it gets into the oil system of the motor will wipe out the main and/or rod bearings, seen it before a couple times.
You can get those broke down plastic houses in cars junk for free. Those houses are very easy to broke, are not to good for hot engine. Do not worry with those.
Why wouldn't you rinse off or degrease the valve cover before reinstalling them??? As a precaution of not getting any dirt or anything else that may fall into engine?? SMH good video though.

Great advice!! I need to do this asap on this same Jeep. Thanks for watching
Awesome video, I plan to replace it tomorrow. I had my reservations about doing this side. You built my confidence 100%. Thank you
You're welcome! Good luck. Thanks for watching
How did it go for you? What wrench did you use to get that Lowe back bolt out?
Thanks Blake great video !!! I like how you explain step by step.

You gotta love all the brittle, baked plastic.
Very well done.
Very complete

Make sure when reinstalling water reservoir slide the bottom onto the bracket on the fire wall then the two 10mm nuts.
Great video!!!

Yeah i just magically lost all compression on #2...pretty sure i threw a rocker or something so this is mos def in my future.
I've got a PCV valve coming in the mail and I'm really worried that hose is gonna crack on me when I replace it. I hope a hair dryer will warm it up enough
How thigh must be the bolts? Lbs valve cover bolts. Thank
Once you get the valve cover off, how do you know if you threw a rod or something? I have a nickel size hole in mine. Not sure how that happened 🤔
Would this be the same procedure for the 2010 3.7 dodge nitro?
Is your mechanic business on the western side of iowa ?
Another good DIY vid.
I had a 2 inch hole in my driver side valve cover. Fixed it with epoxy and cardboard

Would you come over and do mine? I think I think i have a rocker arm loose.

As long as you can maintain one valve I would think you're ok. Eliminating PVC altogether is generally not a good idea. Thanks for watching!

That’s ridiculous, I just had this replaced at a shop for $190
@@cooo1hi566 Mo other valve cover is now leaking and A friend has offered to do it for $50 The one I replaced went smooth.
How you removed the back lower bolt of the cover I had very hard time try to take it off can go thru any socket
From memory I used a swivel or a swivel socket on an extension.
When changing the value cover gasket is there any other gaskets sets needed ?
No. Only valve cover
How much labor
How much money for this work we should pay
What do I do when the plastic bottoms of the injectors fall in it when pulling out Dont have any. Please help bro

My valve cover cracked at the rear lower side .

Its a Jeep thing
What are the tourqe specs for the valve covers?
I'm not certain but I'm guessing 89 inch pounds
105 inch lbs
I lost a lot of coolant onto my driveway when I pulled the two hoses. Wish you had mentioned that before I made a complete mess.

I hadn't considered that, but no I didn't use it because in my experience, it removes material. Id like to find a roloc attachment safe for aluminum.

And then dump all the dirt into the engine from the wiring ,, break everything you touch ,, hmm great job..
