    I really enjoy your videos, I have learned a lot. My friend has a Timberjack skidder with a 353, he was coming out of the woods two winters ago and the skidder lost power and quit. He wrapped it up for the winter and finally got back to it. We discovered the emergency stop was tripped,closing off air to the blower and the inlet fuel line to the injectors was blown off. We drained the fuel tank, put in clean fuel , cleaned emergency shut off, put fuel line back on, checked the fuel filter and got fuel up to injectors by turning engine over and bleeding air. We could not get one injector air free, air just kept pissing out. So after many tries, new batteries, good connections, recharging batteries, bleeding air, a little ether, it still just spins over and won't start. (Air in injector closest to skidder operator.) Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    • @detroitgarage9430
      @detroitgarage9430  Před 2 lety +3

      You don't really need to bleed Detroit injectors, but instead make sure both the primary and secondary filters are full of fuel and fuel is getting to the filters. Sometimes it take a little work to get the fuel pump primed, but once it is then the engine will start. It will run rough for a minute or so until the air is out of the system. Again confirm the emergency stop is in the open position and the fuel lever is in the run position. One last thing, confirm the rack is free before starting.:) I hope this helps.

    Good day..I have a 353t turbo engine which is slow accelerate when pedal is depress. I found the fuel rod to injector rack attachment point is out of alignment. Have to force the rod in place to insert the pin. I suspect a bend fuel rod. Question to you is it ok for me to reform the rod to remove that force?

    • @detroitgarage9430
      @detroitgarage9430  Před 2 lety +2

      Yes, I have run into the same problem and repaired the rod so it works correctly. In these cases it's best to run the rack again so it's adjusted properly. Thanks for watching.:)

    What would you recommend as the best injector for a 4-53t marine engine? Looking to get more than 170hp outta them, but without sacrificing reliability. thank you for sharing your knowledge!!

    • @detroitgarage9430
      @detroitgarage9430  Před 2 lety +2

      The largest injector I can find for the 53 series is the 5840 that delivers 85-90 cc/1000. A common injector that a lot of 4-53T guys run are the 9A90's and they deliver the same as the 5840. With keel cooling and water jacket intercooling that should give you about 250HP. I'm running 7A77's @ 74-79 CC/1000 and am around 210HP with intercooling.

    • @dannyjones3840
      @dannyjones3840 Před 2 lety

      @@detroitgarage9430 thank you for the advice. How well will it hold up to 9a90's? I don't want to burn em up, but I do want to get more out of them. They do have intercoolers

    • @detroitgarage9430
      @detroitgarage9430  Před 2 lety +1

      @@dannyjones3840 I haven't tried the 9A90's, but from the guys I know running them they're fine. I can say for a fact the 7A77's are smoke free and max egt's are 850. I have a set of 9B90's but haven't installed them yet.

      Will do!
      I actually bought my still-unused sonic cleaner to use on my new resin-based 3D printer (which is also unused). From what I understand, the 3D resin prints are considered Hazmat so they wear gloves and wash off their parts with isopropyl alcohol. Some clever folks in the 3D printer community discovered that they could conserve their expensive alcohol by putting their parts inside zip-lock bags with a small quantity of alcohol while using ordinary tap water (outside of the bag) to fill the rest of the sonic cleaner. I figure it's probably safer too, rather than agitating already aerated flammable solvents.
      I'm going to try the same thing with my injectors with an appropriate solvent after I verify that it won't dissolve the ziplock bag. The best part is that my solvent won't be diluted by the water so it shouldn't require much. The bags will pay for themselves in unused hand soap.

    • @detroitgarage9430

    • @detroitgarage9430
      @detroitgarage9430  Před rokem

      Common rail injectors run at far tighter tolerances and higher pressures than the old Detroits. You could try Kroil or Archoil AR6200, but they'll probably have to be replaced.
