    Didn't work for me. I tried this on Nikon Z and Sony A mount and the Lens/flange distance mounted on the cap is wrong for both systems. Only blurry images. I can set the whole assembly on the front of the Nikon Z cap and its nearly there with some slight tweaking of distance. I've only ever seen this done with Sony E mount systems, so perhaps that's the only one with the proper lens to sensor distance with the cap mount. Oh well, it was fun to try anyway

      @@RCodyWanner I tried it today with a Canon SL3, the distance is not good for infinity focus. It works as a macro lens because the focus is really close, but I can't get the lens closer to the sensor without risking damaging the camera itself, so there's no way to focus on the distance

    Hello! recently i saw a version where the lens is glued on top of the lens cap and instead of a large hole, a smaller hole is drilled on the lens cap. I was wondering if you would know what would the benefit be of having a top mounted lens as compared to what you did in this video. My intuition is that the smaller hole would work akin to a pin hole camera? thus maybe better focus? not entirely sure.

    • @RCodyWanner
      @RCodyWanner  Před 6 měsíci

      i tried that first actually, it was less focused for me, but that could have been because the hole wasn't as smooth as it should have been -- i do think that the hole i drilled here could have been smaller -- but yeah not super sure what the different effects would be

      I’m not sure if it will work quite the same - the lens will likely have to be even closer to the sensor - but I could be wrong! And also you could do that with spacers (or washers, like at the end of this vid) I only have known this to work on mirrorless full frame.
      Please make a vid and show us if you try it!

      @@RCodyWanner i just finished my first prototype with the fuji disposable lense for my sony a6400 (kinda rushed)
      found out that:
      instead of gluing the lense from the inside i ended up putting it on the outside to get a better focus. the lense has the nice retro grainy look, haven't tried it outside in the sun light yet but indoors with the flash the pictures come out just like how a film picture would.
      i think the next prototype i can drill a smaller hole fitted for the back of the lense to make it look more aesthetically pleasing
      great video thanks for the cool diy and inspiration!

      @@RCodyWanner more of a mix of young Roger Craig Smith from the games before he did batman and I guess the movie.
