Niko and his long hair remind me of a 70’s gearhead. I hope that’s a compliment. Look who his uncle is?
Good evening, all!!!! NOTHING beats good ol’ hands-on experience, and Niko is getting his from the BEST, uncle Nick. Good to see the younger being willing to learn from the elder!!! Great show as always: fantastic week to y’all!!!! 😊
Good to see you teaching this young man!
Niko and the rest of the world understand that the drip would hit the pan if you waited long enough for one to fall. He was checking to see if it was micro-weeping BEFORE a drop came down.
👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾✌.....AGAIN....
Another 440 saved!! Keep them coming.
This is the industrial art that high school auto shop at its best hit 5% of.
i love how you are teaching Nicko! so reminds me of my dad teaching me so many things. a beautiful thing !
That 6 pack opening up sounds amazing.
It is making very good HP and it is always to see Nicco working with his uncle Nick + Chevy straight 6 George 👍👍
Old Nasty Shoe🇺🇸
The exhaust studs and twelve point nuts work for me nice to see a young man interested in learning 👍 good job Nick and Nicko!
Those rockers being full roller are a huge problem on bbm. The rocker load is displaced only on two or three of the rollers at all times and the oil that leaks past the rocker lowers oil psi considerably. I always use bronze bushed rockers, ensures a nice oil film wedge. Those look like 440source rockers...chinaJunk
Nice to see the young man learning from many years of Nick's mechanical experience 👍 Au
Thanks 👍
There are a lot of great motors out there but you can’t beat a 440-6. That overhead view with the secondaries that open up, it’s the stuff of dreams.
I love the sound of a well tuned engine
It’s great to see the master Chef teaching the protege. Keep it up Niko! You will treasure these teachings more and more as you go along. Cheers!
The master, himself.. thanks, Nick & team!
Tell Vascili I said *HEY* !!
The new dad! We hope he is getting some sleep.
@@NicksGarage congratulations Christina and Vasily.👶
At the start of this video I was thinking Nick was not very hopeful for this 440. But it turned out really well.. Thanks to Nick's perseverance and patience. Great job,Nick and Niko !
Nico, listen to those who have been there and done that. Absorb the info like a sponge no matter how trivial it might seem. Watch procedure and ask questions about why it's done that way and don't assume. Always hang out with those who are smarter than you and you will go far. My father always said that when I grew up I should be at least twice as knowledgeable as he if he did his job as a father... learn what he knew and what I have learned over the years and teach it to the next generation
Young Niko learning a skill that will serve him well on his li’l Midge’…
I hope Nico follows in Nicks shoes. But first,he has to master the term, "Here we go!"
I live in Bakersfield California 1975 and older you don't have to worry about it but 1976 and newer you do Nick
Hey Nick,
Tim here, i'm a Poncho nut, but love ICE's PERIOD!!!....the torque curve looked AWESOME!!....the nicer/flatter the torque curve is, with not alot of drop off, speaks to the engines V.E.......so, you built a VERY stout 440 for ur customer, and its VE is AWESOME!!...NICE JOB sir!!!.....sounded wonderful!!!
Great job Nick, that's a really healthy 440, great build
That is a very strong 440 “street “ engine. There’s nothing like a good 440 at full song.
Great Job Fellas....Love seeing Uncle showing Nephew the ropes.
Niko, is a really observant, young fellow! I, wasn't aware exhaust manifold/header bolts went into water jackets, on a 440.
Wow… with that torque I hope Todd has extra tires. The cam is sweet, got that deep throaty sound. 440 perfection by the Master Nick. 😃
Terrific job Nick. I like how your tutoring Nicko in the fine points of your experience.
Great episode! Niko is learning so much.
This is the best six pack 440 build yet.😊
Thanks for watching.
Solid Roller cam is the magic ingredient in this one.
@Torquemonster440
Somebody else ported head and installed big valves Nick refreshed everything and yes a great roller cam. I wish Nick would've said the make and profile.
Great running 440 six pack!! Nice job Nick!
Awesome show good running engine also it's awesome to see the next generation helping and learning
Nick, I built a 75 440 motorhome engine for my 86 Dodge Ramcharger 4x4. Had pretty good leak at the rear, would leak about 3 tablespoons on the garage floor after a drive. I decided to drive it a while before yanking it out to fix that. Well, at 378 miles the Comp Cam ate 2 lifters and lobes. When I pulled the engine, I found the leak at the rear, it was the cam welch plug, a puddle there and all down the rear of the block. Anyway, rebuilt the darn thing with a Crower cam and Johnson lifters and a new cam plug with silicone inside and out. No more leaks. same rear seal. So far so good. It`s a low compression 8:1 engine, but has all the torque I wanted. I wanted to be able to run the worst gas I would ever run into.
Tune, adjust, test. Now it's train the younger tech. This type of mentoring is just what Niko needs. Years of experience passed on to Niko. NICE!
DYNO TESTING! GREAT VIDEO!
😊❤️😀😮 Nice Job Necko and Nick Sounds Really Good 😊
Nick that 440 sounds GREAT.........Fantastic Job!
He's so lucky to have the best teacher!!! Wish I had an uncle Nick!!!!
Run 440! Love hearing the 6 barrel sing!! Mr Nick, passing on his knowledge to Nikko!!
Doing this as long as this man obviously has been and still seeing his enthusiasm shows how much he loves what he does. Im sure the $$ doesn't hurt either
You said it Nick.....a 44O six pack that has the idle I love.....Just right!!!!!
*Nick!*
Very impressed with the young man.
Learn all you can, Nico. You are the future of that shop!
Hey Nick, I always put the PCV in the right rear valve cover like they came from
Ma Mopar originally - the breather goes in left front. They knew what they were doing. 🙂
- Ed on the Ridge
Thanks Ed. You know a good character when you see one. Niko is a fine young man and we wish him the best, no matter what path he chooses.
I know. These valve covers are with 2 breathers.
@@nickpanaritis4122 Ah, you might want to get one of those adapters for the PCV then. 🙂
@@NicksGarage Oh dear, apologies for misspelling Niko's name!
job well done
Teacher and student. I like to use a down and dirty picture of two surfaces with a gap between them to show the student how to properly check feeler gauge clearances. A picture is worth 1000 words. Sometimes as in this video, it’s very tough because of the headers that are hot and the angle the feeler gauge needs to be in. The drag between the two surfaces can be affected by a bend in the feeler gauge, that’s why you see Nic moving the gauge back-and-forth to get the perfect 90° angle between the two surfaces.
Just my humble observation. NWR
Great fix on the motor Nick 👍🏻🇦🇺she a beauty now .
Nick , those rocker arms look like cheapo chinesium with the needle bearings. Sometimes the shafts and rockers aren't sized properly to each other, causing them both to wear prematurely. Sometimes the needle bearings just fall apart with higher spring pressures. I'm sure you already know this. I prefer the bronze bushed rockers instead of needle bearings. Nice build beautiful engine!
Solids on a street motor 😬😬
Very cool ur nephew takes part in ur passion Nick, take care
Nikko, he is your Nephew Nick.? I remember the young boy helped you tear down a motor about a year ago, but I do not remember his relation to you. He impresses me with his willingness to jump in there with you Nick, I like to see a young man wanting to learn these muscle cars.
Patience along with guidance from the master of Mopars.
That's right.
Yeah Nick, You ARE the 'GURU' of your profession!!
You may have a bad valve spring or cam lobe on one of the front cylinders. If you notice on your pulls, it will spit fuel out of the front carb at lower RPM. It is pushing air back into the intake manifold and out the carb.
Now thats a spicy motor,Nick and the team are the best for the job.some ones going to be soooo!!!!! happy with this one 🎉🎉🎉🎉
My friend's Dad would Rev his 440 too 7K on Race Fuel!! It was in a 70' Scamp, Would run 12.50's back in the Mid-Late 90's! We would drive it too and back from the Track in Milan Michigan!! I had a Stockish 87' Mustang GT at 17yrs Old, that I could get 14.0's 😮
Saw a 75 vw in san francisco with a 440, with stock wheels, with the vw stock motor still in the back!
Wow!
Hippie 🤣
I have a 72 square back with a 4.4 Leyland V8 . Australian version of a Rover BOP engine .
That was a good catch from Niko about the water leak
Awesome! Good to see your Nephew learning.
Just goes to show you , trouble with your engine, Don’t beat it with a stick, Take it to NICK. 😎👍👍
George, loved the engine lighting effects in the opening.
Great job as always Nick!!!
That started up like a brand new engine!!! And when you revved it up, man that sounds incredible in my headphones!!! Yeah, that's some rolling thunder all right!!!
You must be so proud of Nico too😊 he's a chip off the old family block!!!🥰
That shows through his willingness to learn that the business in the future is in good hands.
God bless you all!!!
"One final test!"
Heard that before! 🤭
I like the way nicos hanging out nodding his head yep! Yep! Like Dave off of storage wars YEP!!!!!!! hahahahahaha 😄 😁 😅 😂 😄 😁 😅 p.s have to get him one I'd the ball caps he sold said YEP!! on it lol!!!
I wish I had a uncle Nick to teach me when I was younger learning from the master
We all need a little Nick in our lives! haha.
46:42 Speaking of the poor breather cap on the passenger side I remember using the mopar breather cap that has a opening for a rubber hose that you can connect a hose to a one way valve welded to the exhaust pipe to suck the oil vapor into the exhaust and burn it out and vents the crankcase an old racer’s trick I learned from a old muffler shop so I would have one on each valve cover for each side. Worked great.
Dr. nick, YES!, when the 6 pac opens up , and you hear that wah wahhhhh, just awesome, cheers.
Wah-whaaaah! Yes!
Run 440! Gotta love these RB’s!
I think that you need to get rid of the breather on the drivers side. As it is now, the pcv is only venting the driver side valve cover. If you close off the drivers side breather, the pcv will drawn air in from the passenger side ventilating the whole crankcase.
Pcv puts the crank case under vacuum that's why air goes in one side out the other
''Disco, Disco Block", Tks George!!
lol
Nick you the best because you did your best and made that 440 better than it was, wow! Another awesome show thanks Nick, George & Niko till next time stay well.
Thanks again Blinkie.
When adjusting valves back in the day, I really appreciated the design of the 273 adjustable rockers (probably circa '64-'66) which used a single "jam" style adjuster that did not utilize the separate locking nut. Really easy just to turn the screw either clockwise or counter-clockwise with one hand.
Mopar designed a build for Street strip cars using ported 906 heads with 2.18’s and 1.84’s using Mopar’s porting templates, and paying attention to detail on everything. It was a 9.5-1 motor that used the Mopar Performance .509/292 hydraulic cam, Holley street dominator intake, a 0-3310 carb and blocked off the exhaust hear crossovers. They got 521 ho with that combo.
You should always look for the oil leak on the engine Nick... if it gets down into the tray under the engine, that is a bad leak, but you could easily have a slow leak seal that doesn't leak enough for a drip yet.
Just seeing that six barrel suck in that gas makes me quiver! In 1970 when this engine was built, gas was roughly 9 cents per litre.
If you can afford the car, insurance, and engine package, then you can afford the fuel.
Niko, ask questions, listen and learn from Obi Wan Kenobi! He is the master!
440 six pack runs so good Nick. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻.
Nick, what about a catch can..
Nice work! Excellent numbers
Thank you! Cheers!
Dana "60" Glass. Another great dyno test with 440 6barrel. Great job Niko! With more hands on training with your Uncle Nick, soon we'll be watching Niko's Garage. Keep up the great work!
Right on!
Good afternoon Nick, George, & Niko, It's a beautiful spring day here in Texas, and getting to watch another 440 six-barrel on the dyno at Nick's Garage, is just icing on the cake. I remember this mistreated 440, and all of the problems that it had. I'm anxious to see what kind of power it will finally make after the rebuild. Here We Go!!
Thanks for the visit, sir. We hope you will soon be laying a little rubber in the Texas sunshine. All the best from everyone at Nick's!
@@NicksGarage Thanks George, I just loved the video!! it was nice to see Niko working with Nick in the Dyno room adjusting the lash on the 440. Niko, learn all you can from Nick,
he has a wealth of knowledge to pass on to you. I hope to be laying a little rubber in Texas very soon, lol.🏁
You need to remove the breather from the valve cover with the pcv, just put an oil filler cap on. Otherwise the pcv won’t pull air through the engine.
High lift, medium duration is the best for daily driven street use.
Should be lots of fun.
Great content thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching, John.
With the lazy ports the cam selection was a good change Nick
I'm not too keen on the six barrels I prefer two four barrels that engine would run a lot better
Great job Nick.... thanks...👍🔧
Good morning everyone from Melbourne, Australia! 🇦🇺 🇨🇦 🇺🇸 🇬🇧 🇸🇪 🇬🇷 🚗 💨
gday👻m8
What a stump pulling torque monster!!! Nice job as always My fried!! Pay attention Nicko your a lucky young man.
That's a Monster!
Hey Nick they have a kit you can get for your power brakes work off your power steering pump and it takes less space so it's easier to work on that side of the engine and the pump can handle it 😊😊
Hi Nick and Nico. Where's Leo? I miss him.
Good mill. Heads work. New gen getting a clue. ❤
I am surprised that you don't use high volume oil pumps. I have on many occasions and have never had an issue.
I never used a high pressure oil pump because i thought that in daily driving applications, it might be too much for the engine seals to hold back. The added volume without the pressure was what i went with.
Especially on an engine rebuild that i didn't get the crankshaft turned, and only polished.
Niko yr really coming along mate. I can see yr knowledge and confidence grow, while still maintaining due care. And Yr right to be exact on solid lifters cos there's no oil in them to "self adjust" Onya mate.🇳🇿 ps- it makes me wonder why Chrysler put solid lifters on the long rams, cos ya need to be able to easily access the rockers by removing the r/covers. Not easy w the long rams!! Great show by all!! Mr Nick you are a beautiful teacher. Patient, calm and considerate. Your classes are done w/ just that- Class.🌪️🟰🛞🎼🛞
Very cool, I'd think that engine should push his Cuda into the high elevens.
Would be nice to see the difference in horsepower between running the six barrel and just running the center two barrel. Great video ! Thanks for posting. Best Regards - Mike
Believe me I'm with you Nick you stock headers
good to see Niko is worried about water drip that tells me He is very interested in making this type of work important to him as it is to Nick
Niko long road ahead of you but your very very lucky to have an opportunity, a door, a path, to learn from a master tech. it's like training under a Great Chef, or master electrician
time, passion, and hard work with a bit of self motivation. You will go far. read your books lol
My favourite sealer is Permatex 2 for water and oil. It never hardens. Do not use RTV on bolt threads.
Nice Job Nick.. Making close to 100 hp more than where the factory six pack engines were rated. In a 3,600 lb B-body that engine should be capable of a very high 11 second pass if, the rest of the chassis is sorted out of course. Cheers. 🍻
P.s. The solid roller cam is the hero with this combo. The 10.4-1 doesn't hurt either.
Put on gloves guys, hot headers love fingers.🔥
Excellent job Nick great video.
Glad you enjoyed it.
This was another sucessful build-up & test.... Good Job Nick & Niko...I'm wondering what the reason Nick prefers the oil pump with higher pressure relief, versus one with a higher flow capacity... Curious...
