- Bully is without a doubt one of Rockstar's best games. Often talked about online as Grand Theft Auto with Kids, which is right in a lot of ways but at the same time it is one of Rockstar's most creative and unique games. So today, join me as we hop on the bus back to Bullworth Academy to take a look at Bully in 2022.

The world felt so alive, there was interactions always happening between the different gangs and prefects.
Ikr, I feel like they made a more solid world than thier GTA games. Probably because of the small map, but it's still impressive
A lot of them were absolutely hilarious to bro
I loved when you encountered a 'fat nerd' NPC that had antagonistic AI. Absolutely hilarious seeing this fat, disheveled, out-of-shape dork insulting and harassing jock NPCs, and seeing the fit jock NPCs actually react with fear 😂
@@MrHammers How do you feel about RDR2?
Loved it
Man I wanted a sequel or spin off or anything really soo desperately for this game, it came out when I was in middle school, I'm almost 30 now and have abandoned all hope oh well this game was a instant classic for me anyway and I cherish the memories playing it.
I always imagined a sequel coming out where we play as Jimmy's Son/Daughter
It's insane they never followed up on it, it's such a unique game compared to what they have going on right now
Say for me bro I was taking exams while I was playing I've never studied so hard In my life bc as soon as I was done I could get back to bully. This game means so much to me an is the epitome of the golden age of gaming they'll never be another masterpiece like this again my brother.
Bully and L.a Norie. idk how they never made sequel's to either.
@@djr4872 Bully, we're all wondering. As far as LA Noire goes, when you look into it's production.....yeah
The music and characters were so memorable. I loved the atmosphere of this game. Definitely an underrated game that deserves attention.
The music is one of the best soundtracks of anything ever created my brother.
This game might have the best selection of side characters I've ever seen.
@@anijeepa Yeah, it's crazy how i can instantly recognize alot of the minor characters that you see walking down the street and knowing their personality.
Agreeed!
It’s not an underrated game if no one hates on it…
I’ve played bully about 4 times in the last 5 years and it has such a strong connection with me and got my through hard times and even though a sequel is unlikely I can’t lie I would be hyped af.
It'd be the most hype announcement ever if they did it
Same bro this game helped me through a lot when I was younger and made me feel so good when I finally beat it take care my brother I wish you success.
I played bully all throughout high school and early in my college career recently I have relaxed on playing it but it was such a fun game to play while going to school
Marc Ecko's Getting Up 2 would be amazing too.. like how there is GTA Games but we can't have a sequel to a fucking graffiti game..
Same !
I got this the first day it came out in UK as Canis Canem Edit - Dog Eat Dog ( I know , why not just Bullworth Academy)
For the kids that weren't allowed GTA, Rockstar made this game for you. Very great gem in Bully. Rumors around the community had said Bully 2 was cancelled two times. Great video Hammers!
Crying shame. Imo Bully is the underdog of Rockstar games. No other R* title ever stayed with me like Bully.
Bully has some of the most amazing music in the history of games. It's so iconic; it's so memorable; it's so catchy; and it's just so good!
🎶 DUN dun DUN dun DUN dun Da Da Da Da DUN dun DUN dun DUN dun DUN dun!
One of the little details I like most about the game is that the Bullies are the first clique you befriend, and for the whole rest of the game, they've got your back. Even in the later chapters, when the whole school turns against you, the Bullies are the one faction that remain friendly to you. And when you see the way they act, they don't come off nearly as sociopathic and malicious as some of the other characters and cliques do, nor do they have any ulterior motives, they're just angry teenage boys letting out their aggression. It perfectly shows how screwed up Bulworth is that the most trustworthy and loyal group is also the most openly aggressive.
It also helps that Russel is their leader and basically forms a pact with Jimmy when bested.
I enjoyed playing Bully in my teen years, and even now, I keep coming back to it.
For me, as a teen, playing as Jimmy Hopkins was a vicarious power fantasy because I wished that I could have stood up to my bullies like Jimmy Hopkins did.
Good video, man!
Thanks dude!
Yeah lol is it dumb how this game Lowkey taught me how to fix my bike n make a Rubber band ball from scrat h without using crumpled up paper n my " friends" stole or wanted me to so I just gave em it such great game huh.😎✨😔times
I started watching Bully gameplays the year before deciding to change schools. It really helped me take that choice and now I look back at this game fondly because of that, even if it reminds me of a dark moment in my life
Jimmy is the most moral protagonist rockstar ever made which isn’t hard since most are criminals but still
Very true
4:16 Man, its so good to see someone pull back the slingshot for a stronger hit and not just continuously spam the shoot button to fire weak pellets.
Can't tell you how many letsplayers I've watched who played Bully like a noob not paying attention to the message and just spam the fire button not even knowing you can hold down the button for a stronger shot.
I wonder how many of the players who didn't use it properly had also never used a slingshot in real life :P
After chapter 1, I used to run into the chop shop and aggroed as many greasers as I could, then run to the parking lot. Then I would just enjoy the massive brawl between the bullies and the greasers.
Loved this game back in the day. Wish Rockstar would go back to making unique games like Warriors, Midnight Club, Manhunt, Bully, Max Payne instead of focusing on generic sandbox realism simulators like GTA and RDR2, not a fan of their latest games. Really miss those PS2 days when games were about being cool, simple and just fun. Man, Warriors and Bully gave me some great memories.
Yeah, they need to make more original games again.. they cancelled "Agent" which sounds like a really good game.
Agreed, they used to have so much variety. I love RDR2 don't get me wrong, but it'd be nice to see some more unique stuff from them
Generic? 😂
You're not a fan of rdr2?
@@Python-xs2iv nah compared to the fisrt it sux it only has better graphics the story and side content of rdr2 is boring.
Great review, you touched on pm everything. The only things you missed was how great the camera was, it adds to Jimmy's personality and shows that he has an artistic side and I loved the fact that you could insult or compliment people whenever. The game had a crazy amount of dialogue that helped flesh out the characters more
Yeah! The camera was really cool, you got to take pictures of each student and put them in the year book and the dialogue options were crazy. You can taunt people mid fight and use 'bullying' moves as finishers.
@@MrHammers you can also make fun of them while they're knocked down
Honestly one of my favorite Rockstar's games since i was a child. And still is. Unfortunately I'll just have to live with the fact and acceptance that bully 2 will probably never be a thing or will never live up to the original. But i will always cherish it
I doubt a sequel could ever hold a candle to the brilliance and charm Bully has so for me what I would love to see happen is just a great remaster of the original. And I mean a great remaster. Not like what we just had with the GTA trilogy. It has to be done right if they were to ever do it.
Try the mobile version. It's a good remaster, everything is brighter and colourful.
this is a game I replay annually once a year; usually in August, around the beginning of the school year, funnily enough. I absolutely love how it unapologetically embraces teenage mischief, which is something I’ve grown to admire even more the further I’ve gotten away from my own teens. it successfully captures a specific point in time we all had in our adolescences - a period, I think, we all find ourselves missing on occasion. this game champions teenage irreverence, and I love it for it.
scholarship edition of this game is where rockstar stepped up in terms of graphics, looks alot like gta 4's graphics which came 2 years later.
I agree, scholarship edition was beautiful. I wish the PC version wasn't so jank haha
Scholarship Edition came out in the same month as GTA IV though. Also, talking about graphics, in my channel you have Bully: SE with ray tracing, it looks awesome.
@@d3acxn Woops my bad. SE was inittially released in 2008 right.
@@MrHammers There's fan-made patches, like SilentPatch (made by the same dude who makes bug fixing patches for GTA III, VC, and San Andreas). These remove the majority of the jank and the game plays just fine.
Even with the silent patch the audio issues were terrible. Couldn't stand to play it more than 20 minutes haha, it's why I used an emulator for this video
hell yes i’m so stoked u made a bully video. there’s so little quality bully content out there, which is a bummer because this is easily one of my top three games of all time. you were already one of my favorite youtubers and here you are, upping the ante. keep it up brother man
I like how out the 3 main characters we have one that each represents morality petey is good, Jimmy is the grey area and Gary is evil
I remember when I would stay up as long as I could on a school night, playing this.
For sure, I've definitely been there haha
I am so glad that I subscribed to you Mr. Hammers you are the one channel that gives us hope and somehow optimism about rockstar games even when they don’t show it to us.
You never know they may just open the vault one day and drop some stuff, but likely not haha
I was called a bully in school. When bully was released I was in middle school. I found Jimmy really relatable because of his natural nature to get pissed at things that were unfair or seeing others be mistreated. Like Jimmy, I never messed with anyone who didn't have it coming. I remember seeing articles and people complaining about bully corrupting the youth and how violent it was. Which confused me as a kid. Bully teaches some pretty good life lessons. Not only that but I always liked it when it's shown that a hero isn't perfect. Jimmy is rough around the edges, yet has a heart. Though of course they'll neglect to show that. Jimmy is relatable because he isn't perfect. Sure, I was mean but I was only mean to kids and teachers who were nasty to others. I was really interested in seeing them make bully 2. Just to see how I'd feel about these situations now. It'd be interesting to see Rockstar take on school nowadays. Though it seems that won't be the case.
The most memorable thing for me was Jimmy's dialogue throughout the game crash into something with a bike or screw up a flip 'Ugh, I'm starting to like this sort of pain.' and little things like that, dialogue just does it for me.
One of these rare games I completed 100%. This game was literally my childhood. I still get such nostalgia listening to the soundtrack.
Never actually played Bully (horrible. I know) But it definitely seems like the sort of game that absolutely oozes charm and is consciously aware of setting it takes place in
It was the perfect campy game, it had plenty of charm and rockstars fantastic open world structure. Was a truly unique game in history. I'd recommend it, but playing it these days is a pain in the ass since rockstar didn't give two fucks about it running properly lol
It's on PS4 bro I have it but it's the PS2 version it's not the scholarship edition
@@psychokiller5959 played it recently and finished it, again since my first playthrough was with the scholarship edition, i love the ps2 version as it is
You have to try it out brother
I have such fond memories of this game due to Rentals. I often got any game I wanted whenever, my Mum just wanted me to do good in school and stuff (which I did) and since I only ever wanted maybe like 3 or 4 games a year back then it wasn't that bad/expensive... But for whatever reason I remember going to Civic Video and renting Canis Canem Edit on PS2 like nearly 4 times in a row or something (and it was only like a 2 or 3 Day Rental since it was fairly new, actually another good point, most of the games I got were a year or two old and cheaper/budget price to be fair) but eventually the cost of the Rental just basically added up to the price of the game so my Mum took me to EB Games and bought it for me a few weeks later 😂 good times 👍
Yooo my. Man. Fellow Aussie.
EB GAMESS
This game means so much to me, literally nostalgia at it's finest. It was crafted with love and great ideas. Every activity in thud game is fun even when you get caught to many times and have to mow grass. It's also a lowkey BMX game I would cruise around bull worth and look for areas to combo tricks off of. Plus the score is one of the best in gaming it really sets the tone and matches every thing you do in the game. Thank you so much for this quality retrospective I truly enjoyed watching it and Is probably the best bully video I've seen on CZcams and I've seen a lot. If you find the time please do a San Andreas bc that to holds a special place in my heart. It's unfortunate but imo games will never have this much charm or self satisfaction like this ever again all the industry cares about is graphics and micro penis transactions. Take care my brother looking forward to more great content.
Thank you dude. I agree about the bmx part, I would cruise around popping wheelies and jumping off everything I could with the bikes in the game.
Also, I plan to tackle the GTA series one day, once I'm done with most other rockstar stuff. They are tall tasks to tackle in regards to making a video because it's just so much content, but I do plan on getting to them I promise haha
@@MrHammers I know big dog that shit takes so much time, effort, and research but I know you would do the games so much justice. Bro your gun retrospective was really good to not many know about that game such a hidden gem. Thanks for the response that's dope you reply to everyone you run a really dope channel bro and deserve all the love get and deserve more views looking forward to more content even if it's a sneak king retrospective I'll still watch, like, and comment lol.
Thank you bro, truly appreciate that! Glad to have you here
Back when Rockstar makes video games for passion money instead of focusing on making unnecessary corporate money from Shark Cards in GTA Online
They dominated the market at one point, not just in sales but in just good ass games
@@MrHammers they actually tried when they were trying to make it to the top, now when they’re at the top.. they ain’t gotta try
They need to pick LA Noire and Bully back up. Both great games.
I say the same thing. As kid that got hooked since gta 3, it seemed like rockstar couldn’t miss…until gta online. I still play older rockstar games & I play gta5 story from time to time
@@dorenjackson1166GTA IV was overrated and GTA V was awful.
Havent plaid this game since i was like 10 but coming back to it recently made me realize how advanced it was for its time,
I have to say this is the best video I've watched on one of my favorite games of all time. I remember when I got Bully for the PS2 on Christmas morning and was just so thrilled to finally be playing it cuz the trailers for this game at the time just got me so hyped. I honestly think I might have to go through this game again It's been such a long time. I still have it on my game library and can access it on my PS5👍
My 2nd fav game after The warriors. Man those were the golden years from rockstar which breaks my heart to see them now.
This is the healthiest comment section on CZcams I love to see it every showing love to the game and the content creator u deserve my dog keep it up fam
"Don't sue me, loser." Amazing
😂
Never watched your channel before, but this was a great look back at a huge part of my childhood. Thank you! I’ve also heard the rumblings about a sequel for years, but in some ways I’m glad it never happened. This game was such a unique flash in the pan I don’t really think it could be replicated, nor does the story need anything new.
Would kill for a PC port that isn’t a trainwreck, though.
MrHammers seriously makes some of my favorite gaming videos. Bully is an absolute legendary game, you did it justice with this video
Preciate ya my man
God did I love this game and still love going back to it...and Art Class for its rewards 8D
Canis Canem Edit is the first Rockstar game I ever owned and I played it to death. To this day it's still one of my favourites. It's one of those games that sticks in your head and makes you nostalgic for a life you never had. Jimmy is like that friend you made at school who moved away suddenly. You remember him with fondness and you wish the best for him, wherever he is.
Awesome video. Thanks for neatly pointing out why this is one of my favorite games ever made. Thanks!
Bully is one of my favorite games. I extended my rental from Blockbuster so many times that I was able to keep it. I loved the carnival area, I would go there in between missions or during endless summer and ride the coaster and play the games, and I remembered the freak show creeping me out as a kid. I feel like not a whole lot of main story missions took place there, which was a shame. Great video
My favorite part of bully!? Dude, that's a hard question. The game is borderline perfection, everything just flows together as a masterpiece. Probably gotta give it to the atmosphere though.
Love this game so much. I watch any video about it. I’ll even consider reading books about it
Recently I've gotten the urge to play Bully again. I've got the original on PS2 and Scholarship Edition on PC. I didn't want to go through the hassle of hooking up my PS3 or PS2 and I really wanted the new classes, so I tried getting the PC version to work. It works fine on my PC but the controls suck and I hate playing a game like that on a small screen. So I plugged in an HDMI cable to my TV and setup my xbox controller to work it. It worked fine one day for a few hours, then stopped working later that day. So I tried just taking the HDMI cable out, then my controller stopped working. Also my controller randomly disconnecting and reconnecting made me fail Chemistry 1. So I just bought Scholarship Edition on Xbox for $8.99 and so far it's fantastic. It was a lot of unneeded struggle but I regret nothing.
This video made me subscribe. Can't wait to check out the rest of your content.
Now this is a banger of a game I can still play this game from time to time and still have a absolute blast.
It was honestly a lot of fun to go through and replay, holds up really well
@@MrHammers soo soo true bro how has life bin treating you lately?
Cant complain 🤠 haha
@@MrHammers glad to hear bro I hope everything stays grate for you bro your videos help my 12 hour work days go by a bit faster
Preciate that my man, I'm glad you like the videos 🙂. Anything to help a 12 hour shift, I know those feels haha
Love to see that your channel is growing more and more, nothing but deserved! Keep on the good sh*t, brother.
Preciate ya my guy
This game is awesome 👌 i used to hate some of the class mini games but replaying recently has me actually liking them now they're some quick fun. Replaying really gave me a new found appreciation for the game shit still holds up after these years . Great video bro keep it up
I used to not like some of the classes as well, but they're all pretty solid mini games tbh
Bully is one of my fav games. Jimmy is a brilliant protagonist. The cliques, missions, side quests, mini games, soundtrack and my fav NPCs or love/kiss interests Gord, Beatrice and Vance among a few just make the game such a joy to come back and play, even thought I am in my 30s now! Think I will need to import it into the PS5 and dive back into nostalgia
I was 10 when this game came out, and loved it. Played it at least 5 times as a kid. I now work night shift at a boring job and last night downloaded the mobile version…it’s not the same but it’s still super fun. Still have slight hopes for a sequel.
Bully is better than 99.99% percent of open world games out there. The rest is probably i never played it.
In my Freshman year of highschool I had an English assignment about creating a huge story about whatever you wanted, I aced because all I did was copy and paste the plot to Bully, cut it down a bit, and explained and analyzed bits of how it's like a social narrative. Bully was just that good, and the idea of a take-no-shit righteous violent, troubled teenager in HS as a protagonist struck home and hit hard with a lot of my classmates, (I come from a really shitty part of California)
I loved playing Bully when I was younger. The unique soundtrack is especially memorable. Hopefully we'll see a sequel eventually.
I think the Jocks are actually led by Ted Thompson, not Damon West, even though you see him in free roam. That's something Rockstar should do in Bully 2 as well. Allow all the clique leaders to show up in free roam, not just the Bully one. You also use stealth in the mission where you get back the lab notes for Beatrice and in the 2 missions where you have to sneak into the mental hospital, Galloway Away and Finding Johnny Vincent.
the bully soundtrack will forever be engrained into my brain.
Been waiting for this, nice vid
interesting.
I actually thought for a while that 'Canis canem edit' was the original name (a play on the whole latin and school thing), and it was changed to 'Bully' to be a clearer descriptor of what the game was about.
I loved all the game, although I began to really hate dogeball, as it took me ages to complete gym class, but I worked out a strategy eventually.
Really hard to believe there'll probably never be another in the franchise.
Your review of this legendary game was spot on every feeling you said is exactly how i felt when i played this game in the past 😢
Thank you🙏 glad to hear bro
I’ve heard a lot about Bully but never played it. This breakdown of the game has highlighted how well written the characters were.
Just finished replaying this a month ago, still holds up. Considering streaming bulletproof now that you brought it up.
I remember my cousin rented Bully from Blockbuster when it first released. It's a game I would later purchase on Playstation 2 after I got some chore money. I go back over other year and play the game through. It's a game you can truly never forget
I remember cousin had this game at his house I don't remember how I got it but I finally managed to get it from him and I played it it was all scratched up but I loved it nonetheless me and my other cousin we had beaten it I used to skip every class except gym
another great video hammers! keep up the good work
Preciate it my dude
Another Top quality Video man as always! Love your vids
Hammers, you're killing it, brother! Your videos are top notch and the games you review are too! Manhunt, Majora's Mask, Bully, The Warriors, etc. you have an amazing catalog of videos, I've been binge watching your content for the past few days. Keep up the great work, buddy! :)
Thank you my dude. Super glad you like the videos, you got good taste in games! Haha
This game made my childhood less lonely as I was extremely awkward for some time when I was young. Although it did have combat and all, the characters and the many side content made me feel like I was actually in the game developing friendships.
im crying hearing ost and seeing this game again remembering how special those years are and how i viewed the world and had a feeling during that time which I had forgotten for years
The Warriors and Bully were such great games. Back when developers actually made great story mode games and didn't just focus on online micro transactions
For real and gaming was so much more fun, that was back when everyone would get together around a tv and play and have fun
I've played through this game so many times as a kid, and each time I loved it just a bit more
Dude your videos are amazing. Probably the most underrated review channel on yt.
Thank you!
I am literally in the middle of playing Bully currently, love it so far!
Hey man finally someone else who recognizes the musicianship on this game (and R* games in general). Who ever their in studio bass player is knows what he is doing lol.
Absolute classic. My roommates and I had a blast playing through Bully the first time.
I beat Bully over 20 times when I was a kid.
I kept count.
Barely 100%’d it a few years back because I could NOT for the life of me find one of the random event “help a stranger” things that only spawned during a specific time.
Felt good to finally do it :)
I remember watching Nerd-Cubed play this game when I was in middle school, playing it a few years later. The characters in this game were so good, everyone had a personality, every student was unique, and the main characters were all so memorable.
I mean even characters as seemingly one dimensional as Russel, the big dumb softhearted brute had their moments, I mean the man came out with a stolen police bike and crashed his way through a barricade so jimmy could do his thing
I’d love to see Jimmy again in a future title, weather it be a sequel or just a cameo. Hell I’d be up to see Jimmy and some of his friends all grown up and still terrorizing assholes in GTA online or GTA-6. I mean could you imagine Jimmy being a white gang leader in the city, Their home base being a beach side clubhouse like when they were still in Bullworth. Characters like Petey being the straight man who keeps everyone grounded and not as violent as they could be, one of the nerds being their man in the chair like Lester, Russel as the human tank, big and scary yet soft hearted muscle of the crew... it could be great if done well
god man i love your videos. You cover like all my favorite childhood games. I used to spend the night at my buddie's house in middle school and play it on his tiny box CRTV
I feed off of nostalgia haha
@@MrHammers I’m the same way. Also love the lofi bedroom AC beat at the end of your vids. You should make a spooky AC for the GameCube video at some point
Haha that's a good idea lol
Damn, I had no idea it sold so poorly. That's so unfortunate because this game was so impactful on me when it came out
For some reason I completely forgot this game existed back in the day, totally gonna try it now!!
I love Bully. Has been one of my top favorite games of all time for many years now
Grand Theft Auto is my favorite gaming series but I absolutely adore Bully, nicely done.
Love the content 👌 hope to see more from you soon!
This was one of the best feeling games I ever played
I always come back to Bully now and again. It's such a great game
One of my favorite games of all time. Can't count how many times I've played thru it. I even got it running up on my ps vita recently.
32:48 I actually would have watched a 4 hour video on this game from you. I'm a new subscriber of yours and your work is top notch.
Thank you! That's super kind
bullworth academy was the best school i went to! Never going to forget these memories.
Just remembering this game brings up so much nostalgia I almost wanna cry. This game was so amazing and I'm so disappointed they never followed up with it
Honestly. This Channel is criminally Underrated.
Ah Jack Thompson, there's a blast from the past.
The moral panic lawyer who threw a fit after a judge asked him to please stop filing pornography in his court documents, to the extent he made a picture book full of visual insults and sent it to the judge.
Thank god he got his mad ass arse disbarred.
Great channel bro. Love your content man 👍💯 . Yeah because of the “canis canem edit” name here in the uk on ps2. I totally missed out on buying it! I didn’t even know what it was it was the name that put me off. Then it wasn’t until bully: scholarship edition released on xbox360 I realised what it was! A banger!!! 🎮👌💯
Still my favourite all time game, i've 100% achievements 3 times over the years, how they never made a sequel is beyond me.
I complete this game at least 3 times a year since it came out. I love it
My favorite game to play around Christmas time for some reason.
One of the Housers once said that he didn't see Jimmy as a GTA protagonist, he's just a boy that's living rough times. That's why I'd love to play a Bully 2 where an adult Jimmy (maybe as a music teacher? He said he liked it) makes a cameo to help our new protagonist to not make the same mistakes as him.
A music teacher? That doesn't sound like Jimmy at all bro no offense, maybe a rapper, as for a sequel with a new protagonist I'm definitely against that
The sound track is ICONIC
I'm so glad bully came out in a world pre-smartphones. Because of its lack of tech pretty much entirely, you see a couple of computers maybe, it has this timeless feel. Bully could be happening in 1950 or 2005 and I'd believe either. Bully also captures the feel of that time in life super well. Anytime I play it I'm able to tap in to that smaller world of school in a small town mindset. Biking around town, hanging out on school grounds, and going to the fair all go so far in capturing that experience of adolescents.
You're almost right, but the nerd base in town with the arcade cabinet skews it to 1970~2005
The game has tons of "Heart" a concept that is challenging to quantify like "camp" or "kitsch" it simulacrum of a something that was never quite real and somehow more real than the current version of reality we live in. The game had a profound message for me about the power of labels and we can choose to embrace the labels or stand in defiance of them as the title BULLY canis canem edit (dog eat dog) evolkes the metaphor of the snake eating its tail in the end our actions are what define us.
Haha just bought this on sale the other day. The fact that I’m playing this on my PS5 is so odd and satisfying. I wish there was a sequel or next gen remake. Always been one of the greatest games!
Oh yeah I'm playing through this game again after watching this video.
Hell yeah, have fun
After all these years it's still in my top 10 of all time. A shame we'll never get a sequel but maybe it's better this way
I really enjoyed this video, just subscribed, keep it up bro❤️
Thanks dude!
another banger from sir hammer
🔨🔨
I always come back to this Game!!!
