The problem isn’t just the fact that players who were sold weren’t replaced properly. It’s that Man city have set such a high standard that other teams in the league now know they have to seriously up their game to match them.
It’s not that city haven’t been good this season, they’ve been quite good. Have lost one champions league game so far.
The real problem is that other teams are carefully structuring their teams to counter exactly how city play.
And as an arsenal fan, I don’t blame them. We can’t just look at them and let ‘em win all the trophies. It’s unfair and unreasonable that they’ll stay up forever.
However, let’s not delude ourselves into thinking they won’t bounce back once De Bruyne is back. That whole February till end of season run from last season still haunts me.

I've been predicting this year as our big push year, last year was ahead of schedule as our squad was no where near built out, it's still not complete but it's deeper than last year. Thank Gawd we got Rice, without him our midfield would have been carved up without Partey available. If we get the Rice/Partey partnership going we could become damn near impenetrable.

Why aren't people talking about how the City board bottled the summer transfer window? 86GA lost btwn Gundo, Mahrez and KDB, so what exactly did the board do to make up for that? Seriously. Sold/loaned most of their academy players that could have had a sniff as a sub in the first team and in the last 5 days of the transfer window, you sell Palmer. What am I missing? It is either stupidity or arrogance on the part of the board. Their strategy has proven to be absolutely shambolic.
For the price of Kova & Nunez, City could have gotten Kimmich out of Bayern who can cover the 6 for Rodri can play the 8 and the 10 and has solid GA relative to we bought. Where is the quality and experience to make up for the personnel who left? It's like the City board decided to do what LFC board did last summer and tweak it a bit. And now, their poor decisions are starting to come back and haunt them

@@joebarnes100 Yeah thats a good call, but if you look at the their net spend and compare that to the turnover rule of 70% they have plenty of money. Say their average rev was 500m each year past 3 years. 70% would be 350m to spend each season or in aggregate, 1.05b before (FFP issues lol) and that is before you incorporate any player sales. In 2022/23 summer, City were net positive in their window and if you look at wage bills, its average has been 215-220m/season (before bonuses). If you look at last season, on top of normal revenue, City pulled in nearly 300m in prize money. So i dont think its that.
I just think its a bit of hubris on the part of the board etc. Poor planning and execution
