Official video of Massive Attack performing Risingson from the album Mezzanine. - Hudba
I'm a metalhead, but a dear friend who recently passed away gave me the CD of Mezzanine in 1999. My mind was completely blown away, it was darker and heavier than many stuff I listened. Although I'm still primarily a metalhead, I think Mezzanine is one of the greatest albums ever made. And Risingson is one of the crown jewels, you don't need any drugs at all for this song to take you through a trip. Thank you Nail for introducing me to MA, may you RIP.
Sorry for your loss. I agree, this album transcends genres and time and is truly a masterpiece
He lives on eternally, through you and everyone else he has touched :)
Beautifully worded
You aren't alone in your praise for this coming from the Metal direction myself also. This music is both engaging, atmospheric, imaginative, and thematic all in one stroke. You may also have an ear for Wax Tailor and Portishead as well. Trip Hop was something else.
The best album to me
"Guys, I think our house is under attack."
" Ssshhh, I'm watching a sugar cube fall really slowly. "
"Understandable, carry on."
if its a sugar cube with acid on it its for real understandable
Brilliant!!
not just any attack..... a massive attack...... (credits roll)
Mezzanine is one of the greatest albums ever made, 18 years later it is still fresh.
Agree
Not as fresh as Ariana Grande, but very fresh.
Agree
I couldnt disagree more look when this was produced and were still listening now. I aint even listening to Ariana just now let alone in 10 years time lol sorry but MA is the biz! PS i aint dissing her she has one hell of a voice, just im stuck living in the past MA, hackers and alotr of other 80s and 90s lol hahaha

One of the dopest bass lines ever
It's so simple...and so fucking dope. As a musician, it's hard not to envy shit like that, because it's like-you made something immortal, and did with just a few pentatonic notes lolol-like it was effortless. That's often all you need, though, and it's funny how riffs can still sound totally unique just within that capacity.
❤
Badass
@@GarrettWadeD What I realize is that what we think as effortless is usually a result of immense effort such that the creative process becomes a second nature and great musical patterns flow like a river after that point. Not to mention that this is not a static but a highly dynamic process as well.
The Mezzanine videos are just perfect, they portray the album's atmosphere and essence so well. A collection of songs and stories about people struggling to function socially and emotionally, as a result these people choose to isolate themselves instead of facing a world no doubt will hurt them again.

im 25 years old, we are in 2021, this album is amazing, and massive attack stills one of the best bands that ever existed, have a good day.
I'm 65 and I wholeheartedly agree

Yes💚
I’m 32 and I grew up listening to massive attack. Thank you for this comment, I couldn’t agree more.
And so it is!
If the matrix was a musical genre it would sound like this. This shit is insane
even so.. matrix has 2 tracks of massive attack
@AmbiguousSama what?
@AmbiguousSama Nah it only has Dissolved Girl playing on Neo's headphones when Trinity wakes him up. I can't remember another Massive Attack song in the trilogy.
this one particularly reminds me more of the fight club

You’re not alone! That part always gives me chills!!
Truly epic!
Definition of Massive Attack: Pure mysticism.
Well said. Absorbing this song performed live twice at Fuji Rock Festival in Japan opened mine and others states of mind. Religious experiences. St.Peter’s Cathedral sized.
The song itself its something about a party or sumtin, mystery solved
@@shouly2283 Mysticism is not synonim to mystery smartass
YES!!!! Pure trance (as experience not genre)
💕
I listened to Massive when I was in highschool. This is the right music for the dark, introspective souls. Listen to this at night, feel it seep through your bones..
The sound is ethereal and dark at the same time. Who needs to get high when you can listen to this? Massive A. are absolute.
art shouldn't be explained , it should be expereinced. but however , if i haven't just red your comment , then i'll be brobaply listening to something far more shallow music right now. i have been listening this song for a couple of times now , and i think that without your comment , i couldn't have never understanded (pardon my bad english, it isn't my mothers tongue) what this music really means to me , so i just wanted to say thankyou for writing that comment.
Disagree, listening to this high as the sky is AMAZING
Well said. The Massive are the anti drug!
Don't take drugs, Listen to Massive at least, 3 times a day. Have fui!
how about, occasionally, both
I had the privilege to watch this band live playing all the mezzanine songs. Was such an epic night!!
Lucky you. To us, MA are the best trip hop band ever plus Mezzanine, a masterpiece, been in love with their genius since unfinished sympathy
This song makes me feel like I just took a bunch of psychedelics….I love it
the entire album makes me feel that way.
I'm pretty sure the song is about psychedelics
No matter how old this gets, it will never get old.
Oh my favorite band, this song for me is about as others have mentioned getting out of the drug scene... and the kind of seductive nature of drugs/dreaming/being stuck in your own head ... its interesting that he's stuck in a kind of drug house (could be a metaphor for the mind)... that starts to be attacked from the outside... and LOL Grant just leaves into the light. The light/dark contrast is pretty telling as well. This album is full of seductive songs about dark subjects. Sexual obsession and betrayal with Inertia Creeps, Angel which seems to be about inner demons, Dissolved Girl which is about nihilism in the face of love. The dark side does but glitter with Massive Attack.
Very well articulated.
'Toy-like people make me boy-like'
Possibly the greatest line ever written in music history.

There really needs to be a 10 hour version of this. I'm tired of restarting it myself for hours on end.

So obsessed with the line ‘why you trying to take me to this party and breathe, im dying to leave’ idk like something about it is so eerily confident
Nearly 30 years old and it still sounds and looks amazing.
2:35 Shivers down my spine, every fucking time!
Robert's voice is the kind of voice that many (stupid) people would deem as "not a real voice", "can't really sing", but as far as I'm concerned I find it utterly perfect, it's really really pleasant to hear and so attractive!
ego boy
It fits this style of music, i'd love to hear him sing an Adele song though :D
@@Knickerboxer Noone said he's super duper vocalist or can be compared to Adelle smartass.
I still wish Daddy G had more lines. I feel like 3D kinda overpowers the band.
@@k-leb4671 MA is 3D though, voice and music. Daddy G is not doing much since first album, some mixing mostly, cause he is into hip-hop, not electronic. Mushroom was good but hell of a jerk that was fighting with Tricky then 3D.
damn Robert stop being so handsome, I can't focus on music
[LYRICS]
I seen you go down to a cold mirror
It was never clearer in my era so
You click a shine upon your forehead or
Check it by the signs in the corridor
You light my ways through the club maze
We would struggle through the dub daze
I sink myself in hair upon my lover
It's how you go down to men's room sink
Sad we talk how madmen think
I sink myself in hair upon my lover
I don't know her from another miss
I don't know you from another
See me run now you're gone, dream on
Why you want to take me to this party and breathe
I'm dying to leave
Every time we grind you know we sever lines
Where have those flowers gone
Long time passing
Why you keep it testing, keep on tasking
I keep on asking
Toy-like people make me boy-like
Toy-like people make me boy-like
They're invisible, when the trip it flips
They get physical, way below my lips
And everything you got hoi-poloi like
Now you're lost and you're lethal
And now's about the time you gotta leave all
These good people, dream on
Nicer than the bird up in the tree top
Cheaper than the chip inside my lap top
All the variations you could do with me
Nicer than the girl up in your mind you're free
Automatic crystal remote control
We come to move your soul
You're gonna fade into the background
Like a better smoke'll bring you back round
Like a man slide inside you my dear
Your cheap beer's filled with crocodile tears
See 'em run now you're gone, dream on
Toy-like people make me boy-like
Toy-like people make me boy-like
I found a reason
I found a reason
Dream on
Dream on
Dream on

"Toy-like people make me boy-like."
Ever since 'Teardrop' I've loved Massive Attack. Great sounds.
There were so many good albums that i heard 1997-1998, Björk- Homogenic, Deus- In a Bar Under the Sea, Portishead-Portishead, Massive Attack- Mezzanine, Tricky-Angels with Dirty Faces, Radiohead- OK Computer etc. In my mind i connect so many of them around that time I got sober in 1997, got the music obsession at the same time.
it's crazy this crazy good track is like just one of the 5 or 6 or 7 masterpieces off the album. the change in the middle of this one is absolutely classic. and somehow even in 2015 it doesnt't sound dated AT ALL.
+Thfhfthft Fthftht right? what the shit..?

The trip-hop/electronica golden era - Massive attack/Tricky, Bjork, Portishead, Morcheeba, Sneaker Pimps, Royksopp, Everything but the girl, Bonobo.....
Massive Attack goes down smooth like a high quality mixed drink........turn them up and escape to a different dimension.........
Definitely my favorite part has got to be 2:35. The beat is so entrancing. I love Massive Attack
Mezzanine. Such a fantastic album. Risingson my favourite. Pure genius. That bass. WOW.
mezzanine one of the greatest electronic albums of all time
This song is about tripping.... anyone who's ever gone through a night on something hard knows the scene in that house all too well.
Still my favorite track om this album, and that means something - having angel, teardrop, mezzanine, inertia creeps also on it!!
also dissolved girl!
and Man Next Door
I'd swap mezzanine with black milk but otherwise 100% agreed :)
I only started listening to this recently. Sonically intoxicating. The vocals are poetry and the music is groovy
Arguably the coolest song ever made.
Yes, this is art.
Unfortunately the necessary words will never be around to express my thanks for this song.
Spanfangle jaznastic. You're welcome.
I honestly legitimately can't believe I used to listen to this as a terminally uncool 16 year old girl in suburban Pennsylvania in 1997, I mean, how in the hell did I even connect with this? But this album meant more to me in that year than food or oxygen, no lie. It's truly strange to think of now. I guess what it was, the thing was, I was in an extremely academically competitive high school and under enormous pressure with no outlet, and this music took me to a really dark place that I couldn't go to in the real world. Unfortunately later in life I found my way to those places myself. But I still have a lot of love for this track, it got me through a really bad, really nihilistic negative space in my head a long time ago. Kind of crazy listening to it again all these years later. ❤ RDJ
I'm In a _very_ competitive school as well. I'm struggling, but at least I have Massive Attack to come to when I need to hear deep and powerful tones - it really helps. I hope I can get there eventually, but at the moment it's almost as if the hill is becoming too steep...
Makes you ponder in different worlds. And those who are wondering these existences and realities tend to be connected to this music, this kind of source that drags our imagination into this vast excellent universe of sound.
Brilliant story.
Might've been the coolest girl after all ;)
Sarah Riedel wow that’s exactly my path to this track as well....the lucky outlet I suppose......thank you for your sharing.....it did in fact work.....
Used to ride my bike to the beach at night when I lived in Florida, and when this song came on it matched so well with the fresh air and the darkness
Mezzanine is a great album. I wouldn't have known if it hadn't been for my music teacher in college. He took a whole class hour to have us listen to this album and peak our interest. Did a paper afterwards on them and have loved them ever since.
Why don't we have artists like this anymore. This is amazing
I have loved Massive Attack since I was a teenager…decades ago. Absolutely timeless.
i have just discovered this son this week... i feel like i have wasted my life without this song
right so this damn song has been stuck in my head for AT LEAST 3 weeks and i aint even mad

Tetropolys This and "Unfinished Sympathy" Pretty much most of their 90s output
Sinister, menacing. And awesome.
Massive Attack is a musical genre.
Coolest bass player, ever. The entire video could be him, and I'd watch it.
1998 my last year at University (in Canterbury Kent) I was madly in love with a girl called Joanne back home, she used to visit at weekends, we would put this album on LOUD, roll a fat one, lose our clothes quickly and hit the bed ... so this album, the dark lyrics, the moody beats remind me of regular, good weekend sex !!! happy times man !
Grateful for the way this song`s helped me get through tough times. Sometimes, dark stuff makes you see the light.
one thing about Trip Hop it never gets old and feels fresh everytime I play them or maybe at least to me.
Idk why but the video gives me the Fight Club vibes. As if David Fincher recorded it.
Mezzanine is my soul. I only discovered it two years ago.
I just finished school and was about to go to uni, all the way back in 1997. Massive Attack was my obsession, together with Portishead. That was in Moscow, Russia and I was desperately young, cool and clearly very progressive! =)
The most favorite song from my most favorite band. TOP.
this song is mind blowing
Still love this album over 20 years later. Just doesn't date. Massive attack == Class
yes...i bought their album mezzanine in 98 (i was 14 years old ) LOVE IT !!!! this music is ME
Definitely the most timeless of their first 3 albums
There's just no way that a track has ever been written or will be written as luscious and sexy as this.
I've seen a lot of comments that condemned listening this song with any substance. I gotta tell ya. This gets another layer with a higher state of consciousness.

Really unusual track - the vocals are like almost whispered but at a normal volume
And when the harmony comes in the backing vocals are like a mist, Scattered stereo odd synths . Mixed with constant baseline for familiarity
Track saturates your senses
Grant's Voice, good Lord. Amazing.
This album kept me from acting on violent urges in high school, During that time the W created recession was well on it's way and pressure building emotions within the bottle known as my brain almost felt like bursting. Thanks to Massive Attack I learnt to dream on and am now using my anger in a positive form through creativity. Thank You Massive Attack

Beautiful, dark, haunting. This is a work of genius.
I dont know why some ppl think of sex and heroin when they are listening to a piece of art like this . This so spirituel and make u travelling by time to know all the truth of humanity since the first . By the way i love this band so much .and robert remind me of edward norton on the house of fight club .the same voice and eyes

- First three songs from the Mezzanine.
still the coolest video and vibe, got a spliff in my hand
Damn, this music, unbelievable. More i listen to them the more im getting addicted, no drugs needed. This is awsome, you guys Rock man
Mezzanine is amazing, I got into MA back in the 80s when they actually had videos on tv, Mtv to be exact! They debuted while I was in highschool. Here it is 26 years later and they haven't sold out, still the best alternative sound out there imo! They don't compromise on their sound. 3D is brilliant and deep, I hope he's well in this crisis!
When music was art..❤
I don’t care what anyone says. This is the best f*^k background album of all time
This album brings so many feelings to the surface it's unreal.
One thing I love about Massive Attack videos is that they are completely different (to me) than the lyrics. I visualize something else listening to the song, but I get to see another story when I watch a music video.
the bit in the middle where it slows, and begins to swallow itself
I saw this video many many years ago on Mtv Music, I was paralized , it was the sound that i was finding...
Edward Norton needs to play every character ever from the music videos of MA
