- "Fallin'" is a song recorded, written, and produced by American recording artist Alicia Keys for her debut album, Songs in A Minor. Released to radio and music video outlets in 2001, it is generally considered her signature song. "Fallin'" won three Grammy Awards in 2002, including Song of the Year, Best R&B Song, and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, and was also nominated for Record of the Year.

This was, by far, one of Haley's most underrated performances. She absolutely nailed it! and I'm certain Alicia Keys would have said the same.
The issue with the entire seaon was that almost all her perfomances were heavily underrated.
the judges thought this was off....i thought it was such a great start for her. seeing and hearing everything she could do with her voice in this one song. soooo talented. i love it!
I was expecting for a standing ovation from the judges but didn't receive it. That was an amazing vocals from Hailey. ❤❤❤

In the entire crowd, at first, she was under appreciated and somewhat unnoticed. That the producers never packaged some puff pieces to help America get to know her hurt. They were too busy with their darlings - and were attempting to channel the votes. But she didn't quit - week after week she endured. A great example of cream rising to the top. She may not have been crowned Idol - but she won a good many of us over and created a substantial fan base world wide.
Haley was robbed of the title. She was every bit as good of a country singer as the two that finished ahead of her. The difference was, Haley was also amazing singing pretty much any other genre.
I think that Haley was under appreciated in the beginning. Even I, who was a fan from the beginning, didn't fully realize how great her early songs were. Now, with the experience of the whole Idol season and the the tour Haley has become a phenomenon and even a greater talent. She has developed into an incredible performer with an amazing voice. But now when I go back to her early songs I see that her amazing raw talent was always evident, she just did not get enough support and credit.
How true. Since that CROWDING ROUND I knew this girl was special. 10 years later, still mad she didn't win. They really favored Lauren and Scotty from the beggining.
Wow, that run at the very beginning was really killer. Love the vocals better than the original and Haley was as sexy as all get out in that performance.

I liked Haley's cover a lot better than Alicia Key's original. Haley has great musicality and she knows how to take a song and make it her own.
Meanwhile, Randy was right there sabotaging her from the very beginning. What an idiot!

I've just been listening to the Jessica Sanchez take on Fallin on AI season 11. I thought it pretty good. She has a fine voice. However, she is very much a "straight" singer. What I found interesting was the contrast between the judges' comments to Haley and the comments to Jessica. A clear example of how Randy and JLo were sh*tting on Haley.

Yes...I hope so! But I think Haley should make R&B music because I bought her album and watched her concert in Lolapalooza but I feel like her songs don't showcase her talent! @HaleySlaysIt So true. Haley's vocals were always amazing right from the beginning. Looking back now on the early performances, it's just so obvious she was a STAR in the making. I'm sure Jimmy saw it at the time-- and I read some comments he made to one of the vocal coaches at the time where he couldn't understand how other people (TV viewers, I assume) didn't see how good she was. If she had been voted off early instead of Pia, I'm sure he'd have still singed her to a contract.

This is so true. By looking back to the beginning of Haley's Idol journey, without the preconceived notions who was the favorite or the judges trying to keep her in a box, it's just so obvious what an incredible talent she is.

i think in the beginning people were distracted by her awkward stage movements and didn't notice her vocals.
+shadow light I didn’t think her movements were awkward at all. I think they were very sexy, especially that final very sexy glare into the camera. Plus go listen to Alicia’s original, Haley’s version is quite a bit better. Then Randy tries to undermine her right off the bat by saying it sounded Karaoke to him, as all the little growls and nuances he said were absent were actually present. Obviously the producers intended Haley to be cannon fodder and had already chosen who the winners were to be and Randy was doing their bidding. An honest singing competition it was not. Meanwhile, Haley nonetheless turns out to be one of the best idols ever.

@LoboWarriorForever I think it may have but, it was hardly noticeable. I think the one @ 1:50 was more noticeable, I didn't like that one, but I still loved this performance!

the videos on you tube right now don't have the judges comments for the most part. would show their incompetence for sure. that steven tyler knows his stuff though. the only comment X Factor's Simon Cowel has made is "Haley who?". She would've won this thing with his honest critique. He spoke for us...called 'em as he heard 'em. sometimes 'pitchy' is just heart and soul.

She admires and respects Alicia, that's why she chose to cover this song - a tribute to Alicia and draw attention to Alicia again. Having said that, Haley is a rare talent who deserves our support. Haven't watched this video for several months. Her moves have definitely improved but the singing here is quite good. I used to think this was a terrible performance because I had let the movements cloud my judgment of the singing.

Okay Haley should have won. Scotty was good but his voice isn't "new" it's a classic throwback voice Lauren was okay, she could sing but she just too "the girl next girl" kind of singer nothing stood out her. Haley had a jazzy, rock, soulist voice and she could sing anything!
They got mad because she OUT DID a well respected artist at their OWN song which is a show biz no no! That also is why she lost. Pathetic nonetheless! Love you Haley you’re #1
Vocally this performance is AMAZING! That said it is lacking in terms of it just being her on stage... It feels a tad awkward like she needed a piano player or a band to play off of...
