Hello Daniel, great video as always. Most people confuse 6K for a soaking stone since there's nothing on the package with that info. I cracked my stone before I figured that out. Now I always do the water test instead of trusting the manufacture. King KDS 1000/6000 looks a lot like king KW65 1000/6000. Both stones 1K is soak and 6K is Splash and go. The only difference is that on KW65 both sides have same size while on KDS the 6K side is thinner. Probably you got a KW65 mislabeled as KDS. KW65 6K tends to load up more than the KDS 6K.
Hello Thiago. I had all 3 of them: the kw65, the ice bear k80s, and the thing kds. Even if the kw65 looks similar to this k80s they are totally different stones. I read somewhere that the 1000 on the kds is the deluxe version and it seems to me that is the same on the k80s. The 1000 on the kw65 is much softer. I have a video on the kw65 testing and you can see there that the 1000 is much softer.
Beginner here. :) If 1000 is soak and 6000 is splash, should I only place the 1000 side to soak in the water for 10min? (and leave the 6000 side dry) Thank you!
13:02 Your oil stone is in very bad shape. Have you seen any of Stefan Wolf's sharpening videos? He loves oilstones, but he conditions them with SiC on glass religiously. I tried it myself and the performance is easily 5x improved after this kind of recondition. I suspect you will like Nortons even more if you try this.
Hi Daniel. Do you find any difference between different 1k stones from King, or is the only difference the size and shape? I really love King 300 and King 1k. 6k is ok too but not my favourite. Thank you for the video 🙏
I sow a difference between the ice bear 1000 and king 1000. The first one is more compact and the second is softer. Speed wise, it seems that ice bear is faster.
You consider the two stones 1000 sides are the same? By the way, as you know, i recently tested this stone. In my case, on the 6000 side was more efficient if i put a little pressure just when i moove the blade towards from the edge.

@@DanielWorkshop My bad. Title says K80S. Why make 3 different stones with same grit same color? lol
The answer is simple. To sell more. :) Look at Naniwa. They have the superstone and kagayaki and the are the same. :)

@@sineast Yes, soak only 1000.
If you soak king 6K it may break over time.
9:00 this is a great demonstration that a 250/1000 is more appropriate for new sharpeners, because they certainly have knives in bad shape.
yes 250/1000 is a very good stone. :)

That is the way that I got it. Never had a chance to clean it yet. :)
Very good..
Thank you. :)

The kanji on your knife says "Master Craftsman Shigeki Tanaka Made" he's a very well respected smith from Miki City just northwest of Kobe.
Than you for translation. 🙂
Sa înțeleg că Naniwa e favorita ta?
Nu cred ca am zis vreodata ca Naniwa e favorita. Daca am zis a fost din greseala. Favoritele mele sunt shapton kuromaku.
I have king kw65 ,can you give your opinion on these king kds and kw65 which is better ?
In my opinion KDS is better.

Yes, it seems to me that they are the same.
