  • After owning this camera for around 10 weeks (4 of which it has spent getting repaired) I have finally got a setup I'm pretty happy.
    Luckily, this last weekends 4x4 was the perfect opportunity to test it.
    So here is my first review + setup of the Sony FDR-x3000

    The up down buttons can be changed to do other things on the on the home screen (like digital zoom) so that's probably why the mode is first in the menu. Also you can go back one menu level quicker by just by selecting the selected item again (using the record button) instead of scrolling down to the back arrow. I also keep aeroplane-mode on to save batteries when it is packed in the bag. I also just found out that I need aeroplane-mode on with my cheap unshielded external mic to stop the clicking interference that is generated in the mic by the wifi and bluetooth. Thanks, good video.

    GREAT VID!! Just got ours...could you PLEASE tell me why you have it in airplane mode, and we aren’t getting ANY sound?!! Yes, the front mic is unobstructed and we have it ON, we downloaded the app to use our iPhone as a remote, shot some vid but NO SOUND!! Glad we found you, most helpful set up vid on U Tube. We are hikers and plan on using it to vlog while backpacking here in Arizona, USA. Can’t wait to see how you’ve used your cam! Thnx🌵🦂👏

      Thanks for watching. Sorry for the slow reply as I have been away. Any luck with the sound?
      I have mine in airplane mode for two reason, 1) to save batteries 2) I use a Rode videomicro for sound and the wife signal interferes with the sound itself, makes some strange noise in the background

    It's 2022 and I just bought a used one. How do you know when it is recording? it seems once I hit the record button it beeps and the red light flashes. I hit the record button again and it beeps and the red light remains flashing. No change and no sign anywhere showing video recording or recorded. Nothing. Then I try the card in my old Mac, nothing there. I open up I-movie and try to download from camera and again there is norhing there. Is the red light supposed to always flash or should it be a solid red when recording? I haven't been able to find anything on line about this. Thanks.

    Thanks for the good review. I am also interested in this camera and I know picture quality is very good but I wanted to use it as a motovlogging camera and then I would need an external mic in my helmet. I have heard that the audio would be distorted, because apparently the camera will not equalize for the mouth being so close then. Any similar experience?

    • @JakeMarcin
      @JakeMarcin  Před 7 lety

      I can't say I have experienced any sort of issue like that but thats largely because I don't use the camera in that type of a setup. The Rode mic I have is excellent and the audio comes out great.
      I would think it would be more of a mic issue rather then camera issue and a decent mic would solve this problem. Certainly a crappy mic would have such issues

    Really good video. Thx. I’m trying to figure out of mine is working 100% properly.
    Especially the gyro control.
    Seems a bit off. On the side to side axis
    It was an open box. Fully returnable.
    But maybe my expectations are too high from watching videos here. Lol.

    • @JakeMarcin

    • @JakeMarcin
      @JakeMarcin  Před 7 lety +4

      Thanks :)
      Its completely custom, I tried for a while to find a pre existing ready to buy rig but couldn't.
      I brought all the individual parts from here www.hurtlegear.com.au/categories/RAM-Mounts/Camera-Mounts/
      I use the 1 inch balls but you can go the more heavy duty 1.5.
      So far I am finding the 1 inch ones to work perfectly though, more then sturdy enough and a great fit in the hand.

    Hey, GREAT VIDEO!! THANK YOU!! VERY USEFUL. A few questions: 1. I feel kind of dumb, but how do you charge the battery? I didn't get a battery charger with the package at best buy, if I just plug it into to a cable directly to the wall, will it charge it? 2. I didn't get the remote, and I am trying to download the app, and for some reason it doesn't show me the app on my phone, have you tried viewing while shooting? is it suppose to be like the dji app? thank you :)

    • @JakeMarcin
      @JakeMarcin  Před 6 lety

      Thank you :)
      1) I think it is a micro USB in for the charging, and then I just connect that to any USB wall charger, normally I just use my iPhone one.
      2) I dont have the remote either, it can take a bit of getting used to and playing around with, can be a bit fussy but keep trying and yes it will be like the dji app, you will have a live view from the camera

    I just picked this camera up after watching several videos like this one. I traveled the Mediterranean with a traditional Cannon HiDef camcorder two summers ago. When I returned home and put the videos on the 65 inch tv...I was heartbroken to see my walks/tours through the Grand Bazaar, St Marco Square, Athens, etc to be so shaky, despite my best efforts. Hope this camera will be a compact solution.

      It means you either got the memory card in backwards, or you put it in incorrectly, and it didn’t go in exactly straight, and it’s not making a good connection. You know you have it in correctly when you turn on the camera and it tells you how much record time you have left on your memory card.

    Hi mate, thanks for the link! We've had a few people ask which RAM Mounts parts you've used there, but it's hard to tell from just watching the video, as there are so many different thread sizes etc. Do you recall which RAM part numbers you've used? If not, PM us your details and we'll be able to find your order and check what they were. Cheers, Graeme

    • @hurtlegearau
      @hurtlegearau Před 6 lety

      Yeh unfortunately with over 5,500 components we still can't identify the parts, even with those descriptions, as they make so many threads of similar size. If you want to drop us a line with your details, we can locate the part numbers from your order (if you want).

    I have a silly question,I have the FDR as300, I'm really new with this and I'm wondering how do you do the slow motion? Is it in the phone or when your editing your videos?? Pls help me xx

    • @JakeMarcin
      @JakeMarcin  Před 6 lety +1

      Its a two step process.
      Firstly you need to make sure that the right frame rate is selected in the camera so that your slow motion looks good. Usually 60 fps (frames per second) is fine unless you want very slow motion then go 120 fps, although usually the quality of the footage will not look great out of such a small camera.
      The next step is all in post processing, when you're editing your video, you just select the % you want to slow it down by.
      Generally 50 FPS slowed down to 50% is very common and gives great results

    It would be very useful if someone would post video where every button press was explained. If we we didn't need this level of detail, we wouldn't be searching for these "how to videos".

      I'm with you. Sony has a bad reputation for unintuitive menus on their still cameras. This is my first Sony and I think the menu system and the puzzling icons which are hard to see on the crappy LCD are a real nightmare.

      My first GoPro was the Hero 3+ Black. Was also my last, for good reason. Much prefer the Sony.
      Hope you get good use out of yours.
