    ☺ ABOUT THIS SERIES
    In this series the Royal Enfield Himalayan is ridden roughly 2,000 miles (3,219km) to the far, northern coast of Alaska to the infamous Prudhoe Bay area and neighboring Deadhorse, AK. At 70°N latitude, the "Top of Alaska" can be an unforgiving place, especially in late-summer and early fall when the weather can abruptly shift as the seasons fight for dominance. Winter will of course prevail over summer, which left me little time to relax. Snow, slush and ice were in fact on the itinerary for this adventurous trip.
    As my first "true" motorcycle adventure, complete with many hundreds of miles of gravel and mud, both the Himalayan and I were tested and pushed to some limits, if only briefly.
    Join the ride and see for yourself how the Royal Enfield Himalayan holds up to a first-ever attempt at reaching Prudhoe Bay, one of the most northerly area accessible by road in the world. Expect to see some wonderful scenery, spectacular wildlife, and many friendly faces as the adventure unfolds.
    I'd like to say a special thank you to Mosko Moto for helping me outfit my Himalayan with their adventure gear that truly sets the standard for soft motorcycle luggage and equipment. You guys are the best! Thanks so much!

      @@KARMAkazeMoto That Thai place reminds me of a Chinese restaurant that I found in Piteå, a village in northern Sweden, 30 years ago.
      It was run by a Chinese immigrant family that spoke Chinese and English..

    Awesome that you folks have a remote cabin. Even though my wife and I live very rural here in Alaska, we also have a remote cabin that we enjoy going to as well. The cabins can be a great place to "get away" for a while now and then. Looks like your cabin interior is quite comfy.

      The cabin is getting more and more comfortable all the time. Too bad this whole summer I was so busy renovating a new home that I didn't even go to the cabin once. But I'll be zipping out there this winter. I could use more motorcycling weather right now, but at least I can do some winter smowmachine riding too!

    Studying environmental science down here in Aotearoa NZ.
    The scientist part of me really "enjoyed" (appreciated) seeing some of your first hand accounts of the effects that our
    anthropogenic driven climate change is causing mother earth.
    Even down here (like everywhere) we're certainly not immune. Looking the data (and just visiting the actual glaciers) we're pretty certain there'll be none of them left. Which in itself causes negative flow on effects. Already with a large number gone/diminished, we're seeing effects on rainfall patterns (lack of/long droughts/or torrential flooding).
    Sorry Haha, I was supposed to come on here to praise our good mahi 😆

    • @KARMAkazeMoto
      @KARMAkazeMoto  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks for the feedback! 🙂
      I had a viewer sort of flip out as a result of my comments, citing that Alaskans get money as a result of oil, which was formed when AK had a much warmer climate, so actually the climate is cooler than it once was, etc.
      They were so rude and obsessive that I simply banned them from my channel. I didn't bother pointing out that our oil formations are dated to conditions and geology from 60-80 million years ago... when AK was much closer to the equator, before plate tectonics shifted it to our current latitude and cooler climate.
      So many facts, so little time in life to argue with everyone. 🙄😉

    • @KARMAkazeMoto
      @KARMAkazeMoto  Před 4 lety

      You're telling me, that Thai place is SO PERFECTLY LOCATED for me to get something zesty and spicy after a couple weeks at the cabin!
      Regarding the climate concerns, I don't blame a lot of people for being stubborn about climate change or if/why we should do anything about it. There's a ton of compelling information that, when viewed without the complete picture, gives people a skewed impression about Earth's climate history. A perfect example is the fact that Alaska use to be warmer with much more dense forest, almost-tropical like conditions, that resulted in all the oil deposits. That is soooo true! However, at that time (60-250 million years ago) Alaska was also much closer to the equator. When you leave that part about the equator out of the picture (not to mention tons more active volcanoes and greenhouse gases), it gives people the idea that the climate at this latitude use to be downright HOT, and will be warm again as part of a regular cycle. Get's confusing for folks. I blame leadership and inadequate education for anyone's misunderstanding of things.
      What I like to say is... none of it matters. None of the past matters. We weren't on the planet then. We're here now. And now is the time that our environment has been so stable, so predictable and easy, that' we've been able to thrive as a species. We can either take part in positive behaviors that help us maintain our quality of life, or negative behaviors. We just need farmers in Nebraska to get enough rain, to grow enough corn, to make enough taco shells for Taco Bell.🌮 And for cows in Wisconsin to have enough grass to eat, to produce enough milk, to put enough cheese on our pizzas. 🍕 Is that so much to ask for? 😜 Oh, and let's not forget about hops for beer! 🍻😆
      Well, thanks for getting my creative writing juice flowing! All in good fun! 😉

      Best way to haul materials is in winter. Just toss what you can in a cargo sled and pull it behind a snowmachine. Works best if the trial is nicely packed of course.

    Love your videos and really look forward to the other parts. One suggestion for your editing, when you are talking it would help to have the music volume lower. For those of us with tinnitus the background music can make it hard to hear what you are saying. Keep up the great work.

      Noted! I spent a lot of time trying to get the levels just perfect. I found it really depends on the speakers and sometimes other device audio settings. May I ask what your setup is? Even if you're just using your phone, it's good to know. Glad you like the videos! 👍🙂

      Yeah, I don’t think you quite understand the medical issue.... with multiple sources of sound, people with certain ear issues, such as tinnitus, all of the sounds bleed together, so we can’t distinguish one from the other.... it doesn’t matter if we are standing in the middle of an eight speaker surround sound system and the music is coming from the front four, the motor sounds from the rear one and the bass and your speech from the rear right speaker... it all sounds like the same gunk in our ears. I don’t know what caused the other person’s problems, but mine are from loud explosions and all my inner ear bones breaking in a car accident impact. (Side note, if you are going to be in a car accident, be in a car, standing on the sidewalk was poor planning on my part).
      I get it, until you have a hearing problem, you won’t understand what hearing problems are like, but trust me when I say, if you want us to hear what you are saying, turnoff all music and speak clearly much louder than the background (motorcycle) noises... that or turn off ALL other noises. Most (not all) of us can distinguish between speech and ONE other source of noise (such as the motorcycle), but adding sources of noise makes it worse, and if the two sources of noise sound at all like your talking (such as a human speaking or a human singing), than two is one too many.....

    • @3RayJ3
      @3RayJ3 Před 4 lety

      @@KARMAkazeMoto Agree! The music is Way too loud. I generally watch at night when all the others are sleeping. I turn up the volume so I can easily hear you, then the music starts blaring, and I am franticly turning it down, then back up when you speak. A better balance is needed.

It that all just individuals doing the work, or is the state involved in that at all? Were truck involved, or is it the material coming in on ATV's? Are permits required for that sort of thing? That is one gnarly trial to get into your cabin! Beautiful cabin BTW!!

      Trail work has been done by local land owners over the years. There's a tractor out there for some grading, digging and hauling. But a lot of haul is done with snowmobiles in the winter. Similar to how I hauled much of the cabin lumber. It's pretty wild.
