☺ ABOUT THIS SERIES
In this series the Royal Enfield Himalayan is ridden roughly 2,000 miles (3,219km) to the northern coast of Alaska to infamous Prudhoe Bay and neighboring Deadhorse, AK. At 70°N latitude, the "Top of Alaska" can be an unforgiving place, especially in late-summer and early fall when the weather abruptly shifts as the seasons fight for dominance. Winter always prevails over summer and fall. Snow, slush and ice were in fact on the itinerary for this adventurous trip.
As my first "true" motorcycle adventure, complete with hundreds of miles of gravel and mud, both the Himalayan and I were pushed to some limits, if only briefly.
Join the ride and see for yourself how the Royal Enfield Himalayan holds up to a first-ever attempt at reaching Prudhoe Bay, one of the most northerly area accessible by road in the world. Expect to see some wonderful scenery, spectacular wildlife, and many friendly faces as the adventure unfolds.
I'd like to say a special thank you to @MoskoMoto for helping me outfit my Himalayan with their adventure gear that truly sets the standard for soft motorcycle luggage and equipment. You guys are the best! Thanks so much!

      Seems like a good idea to me. If you've got one with the proper connection I know to work, go for it. But for a lot of people that don't own the scanner, or don't have it with them when they're out on a trip and need to be sure they're repairs did the job, then this manual process will come in handy.

    Great video but I would like too add a correction. I set my MIL off when I started it without fuel tank, I found your video and was going to go though all this on the weekend, but it ended up resetting on its own. So (at least for the my fuel tank error) it my reset it self after some time.

    • @KARMAkazeMoto
      @KARMAkazeMoto Před 2 měsíci

      You are absolutely correct, it may reset itself. I'm not exactly sure what the circumstances are that cause the errors to be recorded more permanently. It could be the number of times the bike was turned on/started with the problem, or the length of time the problem was detected, or the type of problem being recorded. But anyway, I'm glad you didn't have to go through the steps. For other people, of course, they might have one of these more permanent issues that needs to be resolved through this process. Another thing to consider is that if you do repairs yourself, you can reset any warnings, then start the bike and see if the warnings come back. It's a good way to check your work in the shop instead of going out and riding around potentially causing more problems. Thanks for the feedback!

    Sorry,boss, I didn't explain properly so let me try again. 2 hoses from the top of carburator the one on the brake side connects to fuel petcock also the the hose with spring on it. Now on the clutch side is another hose coming from the carb where does it connect to?

    • @KARMAkazeMoto
      @KARMAkazeMoto Před 3 měsíci

      I took another look and I see what you're talking about. That third hose, on the clutch side, just goes up and over the air box, and the end of it points downward NOT connected to anything. It also doesn't have any straps that hold it in place. Looking through the frame, below the seat, I can see the open end of it between the air box and the battery box area. Makes sense you didn't know where to connect it, because you don't connect it to anything. Just an overflow line, sort of like that longer line that drops down from higher up on the tank. On any new bike, these types of lines would be connected to a gas return system to collect/burn any fumes and fuel.

    Does the vacuum line to connect tho the bottom of fuel tank?

    • @KARMAkazeMoto
      @KARMAkazeMoto Před 3 měsíci

      Yes, the small line goes to the smaller port lower down on the petcock, near the larger fuel port. Do you understand its purpose?

  • @miketan2459
    @miketan2459 Před 3 měsíci

    There are 2 hoses from the carb 1/2 bgoes to tank fuel line. 4/3 hose where does it connect to? Fuel tank also?

    • @KARMAkazeMoto
      @KARMAkazeMoto Před 3 měsíci

      If I understand your question correctly, the larger hose (which should also have a spring around it) goes to the larger outlet on the rear/side of fuel tank petcock. The smaller hose connects from a vacuum port on top of one of your carbs (on the black, top portion of the carb) to the smaller port lower on the petcock. Your valve/petcock stays closed most of the time to keep from flooding your carbs, but when you start/run your bike, the suction in that smaller hose pulls on a small, spring loaded diaphragm in the petcock allowing fuel to flow. That's one of the reasons the PRIME setting on the fuel valve is useful. If the fuel in your carbs is dried up, like after sitting all winter, you can bypass that vacuum diaphragm for a minute to allow fuel to dump into the carbs for starting. Once running, put the petcock back to the normal operating position. All your carbs have this vacuum port (for syncing your carbs to all have the same level of vacuum), but 3 of the carb vacuum ports are covered by a black cap and clip. Find the one that is open. Of course, if the hose is still on it, you already have that part sorted out. Let me know how it goes.

    • @KARMAkazeMoto
      @KARMAkazeMoto Před 3 měsíci

      By the way, if you haven't every vacuum synced your carbs, it makes a HUGE difference in smooth running, easier starts, and is the crucial first step in tuning your carbs. That said, you should adjust the engine valves before any of that. Requires a tool like this: amzn.to/3Jej4qw

      Thanks, glad you found it useful. Video is getting old, but still relevant for anyone with a Himalayan and a few other Royal Enfield models.

    Yeah you know. filler words like uhh, you know etc kind of relieve your nervousness. 😄

      🙂 I can't speak for everyone, but for me it's a sign I'm word searching, thinking about what information to share next, making sure not to forget anything, etc. In conversation people sometimes pause to think and include a filler word as a signal to others they are not done talking. This of course keeps others from taking over the conversation. People who "never stop talking" do it habitually to not give others a chance to speak. Not cool! I assume nervousness may play a roll for some people, and that they'd be the ones to also assume it's nervousness for everyone else. Fortunately we're all so different! Cheers to that! 🍻 Funny how a small comment can really get you thinking. I'm reminded about ex-President Obama. The guy says "uh" all the time while making his best effort to craft clear, direct statements. Pretty sure it's not nervousness; although, I do think it's a sign his general intelligence is ahead of his language skills. Pretty common. People who can instantly convey complex thoughts without any pause always impress me. Well, on with the rest of my day! Thanks for commenting.

    Just what I needed.. So today I was adjusting valves and with the tank removed turned on the key to check the mileage. After it was back together, the eng light wouldn't go off. I saw your excellent tutorial and voila! I learned something new.. You are the man! 😆

      @@KARMAkazeMoto living out of town on the BC coast, I bought my 2018 rather impulsively over the phone after seeing a RE ad showcasing them in the Himalayas. They were right out of an Indiana Jones movie.. I then discovered a wild man riding from Seattle to Alaska on his newly purchased Himayan. Thought for sure he'd spear a moose. Amazingly he never did. Cool bike, cool guy and a cool wilderness cabin. Doesn't get any cooler than that.👍👍

      Great story. Headed to the cabin this weekend actually. The nevending project! Getting close though. Putting in my time out there while we still have snow, but eager to get riding and filming. Hope that valve adjustment worked out. Ride safe!
